Early identification and intervention are crucial to minimizing impacts of congenital hearing loss. Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) programs recommend newborn hearing screening before one month of age and a diagnostic audiologic evaluation before three months for infants who do not pass the screening. However, not all infants meet these benchmarks, as geographic and sociodemographic factors may influence adherence.

Addresses of primary contacts and audiology clinics were geocoded to calculate drive times to the nearest clinic in 10-minute intervals for infants born in Minnesota between 2019 and 2021. Birth location, NICU admittance, and sociodemographic characteristics were also analyzed. Random …

This paper discusses how accessibility to information may be limited for families and considers why this is of a critical concern for families using Spanish. To look at accessibility of materials online, six search terms were used in the Google search engine. Ninety-one unique websites were included for readability analysis (43 written in English and 48 written in Spanish). Readability was assessed for English materials using Flesh-Kincaid Grade Level (FKGL; mean=12.83, sd=2.737) and Flesh-Kincaid Ease of Reading Score (FKERS; mean=35.602, sd=15.651). Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine if there is a significant difference on ASQ-3 (Ages and Stages Questionnaire version 3) Gross (ASQ G) and Fine (ASQ F) Motor scores between children with sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) and children with normal hearing.

Methods: Data was gathered from the ASQ-3 as reported by parents/caregivers of 61 children (28 normal hearing children and 33 children with SNHL) ages 6-36 months. Purpose: In the context of the recent expectation for state Early Hearing Detection and Intervention programs to track language milestones of deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) children, we examine how to leverage statewide assessment programs for improving language outcomes of DHH children. We present the degree to which DHH children in Kansas are meeting their language milestones for American Sign Language (ASL) and English and the influence of two measurement features.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptions and experiences of early childhood intervention (ECI) professionals concerning timely intervention for children who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) in Texas. The data for this study was collected through semi-structured, qualitative interviews of 10 ECI practitioners in Texas. Interview data analysis followed the six-phase framework of Thematic Analysis. The data collected identified three major themes: (a) roles and responsibilities, (b) family attributes and experiences, and (c) “deaf” is different. Rheumatic diseases distinctly affect women of childbearing age, creating complex challenges in balancing maternal disease control with fetal safety during pregnancy and lactation. This review summarizes the pathophysiology and management of common rheumatic diseases, with a focus on the safety and efficacy of conventional and biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs). Particular emphasis is placed on pregnancy-compatible therapies, contraindicated agents, and emerging evidence supporting the use of select biologics such as tumor necrosis factor inhibitors (TNKs). Current guidelines and primary literature have been reviewed to show the importance of preconception counseling and individualized treatment plans to optimize maternal and fetal outcomes.

Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is an inherited cardiomyopathy characterized by fibrofatty replacement of the right ventricular (RV) myocardium, predisposing to ventricular arrhythmias, RV dysfunction, and sudden cardiac death. Early recognition relies heavily on electrocardiographic (ECG) findings, which often precede overt structural changes. We report a case of a 28-year-old woman presenting with intermittent chest pressure, palpitations, and mild exertional dyspnea. Vital signs were stable, and troponin was normal. Initial 12-lead ECG demonstrated normal sinus rhythm with frequent premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) and T-wave inversions in leads V1–V3. Abstract

Background

The decline of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) with aging may elevate risk of Alzheimer’s disease and related neurocognitive disorders (ADRD) by impairing cellular energy metabolism and reducing cerebral blood flow.

Method

We conducted a 12-week double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled pilot study to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and preliminary efficacy of the NAD+ precursor, nicotinamide riboside (NR; 500 mg b.i.d.), for enhancing cognitive function and cerebral perfusion in older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI).

Result

Traditional brick-and-mortar clinics have failed underserved populations, especially those who are unhoused, living with serious mental illness or experiencing substance use disorders. Nurse practitioner (NP)-led mobile health clinics (MHC) offer an exceptional opportunity to impact healthcare for underserved populations. This model addresses the constructs of social determinants of health replacing episodic care with longitudinal outreach. It offers an equitable and scalable model that is transformative; reducing disparities, and promoting sustainable health outcomes for underserved populations, and it creates a pathway that reduces avoidable emergency department visits and advances health equity.

This study investigates the predictive power of self-assessment and nonlinguistic factors in determining Spanish oral proficiency among university learners. Drawing on data from 2,475 undergraduate students enrolled in a third-year Spanish course at Brigham Young University, the research examines how self-assessed speaking ability and experiential background variables--including age of acquisition, mission service, dual immersion, and study abroad--influence Oral Proficiency Interview - Computer (OPIc) scores. A one-way ANOVA revealed a statistically significant but modest relationship between students' calibration (self-assessment minus actual ability) and their OPIc ratings, suggesting that learners can generally approximate their speaking proficiency within two sublevels. This study explored the social and psychological challenges Afghan refugee professionals experienced when they entered the U.S. workforce after being forcibly displaced. Trauma, job loss, and cultural adjustment significantly impacted their mental health and reintegration. The study examined how social and psychological obstacles impacted their cultural adjustment, well-being, and capacity to deal with credentialing and professional demands.
