Genocide Studies and Prevention: An International Journal

This article outlines guiding principles for teaching “difficult pasts”—episodes of large-scale, identity-based violence such as genocide, crimes against humanity, colonialism, and enslavement—in ways that promote peace, human rights, and the prevention of future atrocities. Drawing from the fields of Holocaust and Genocide Education (HGE), Global Citizenship Education (GCED), Peace Education (PE), and Human Rights Education (HRE), it argues that instruction should move beyond the memorization of historical facts toward developing students’ socio-emotional and behavioral capacities to recognize and resist processes of othering, discrimination, and violence. BACKGROUND: Concentric macular rings (CMR) and Henle fiber layer (HFL) corrugations, potential clinical biomarkers of foveal hypoplasia, have been observed in laser fundus photographs and optical coherence tomography (OCT) images, respectively. Some believe these findings represent true anatomical structural changes while others hypothesize that they are artifacts of interference; however, to our knowledge, no previous study has provided evidence to support either theory.

Stroke is the second leading cause of mortality and the third leading cause of disability, affecting over 800,000 Americans annually. Traditional stroke research has focused on in-hospital settings, but not on prehospital stroke admissions, despite evidence that over 75% of acute stroke cases managed by emergency medical services involve prehospital hypertensive crises (HTN-C). HTN-C is classified into three systolic blood pressure (SBP) stages: Stage 1 (140–159 mm Hg), Stage 2 (160–179 mm Hg), and Stage 3 (≥180 mm Hg), the latter associated with organ damage. Background: This study introduces a reflective learning approach that combines ethical dilemmas with axiological analysis to explore how students' value hierarchies shape their professional identity formation. Moving beyond traditional frameworks such as Principlism, this approach invites learners to examine the tensions between personal and professional values, encouraging critical reflection on how their decisions relate to multiple identities and evolving professional commitments. Methods: Two open-ended ethical dilemmas were distributed via an anonymous online survey using Qualtrics. Background: Pharmacy education in Taiwan has shifted from a four-year Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree to a six-year Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree emphasizing patient-centered competencies. This study evaluated the self-efficacy of pharmacy students at different stages of the programs. Methods: A repeated cross-sectional survey was conducted from 2017 to 2019 at a university in Taiwan. Third- to sixth-year Pharm.D. and fourth-year B.S. students completed a validated 53-item self-efficacy scale comprising five domains. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, repeated-measures ANOVA, and Kruskal–Wallis one-way analysis to evaluate differences in students' self-efficacy scores across academic years and between different programs. This paper examines global research trends, collaborative networks, and prevailing themes in digital zakat and Islamic fintech studies published from 2012 to 2025. We retrieved a total of 194 Scopus-indexed publications using bibliometric methods on September 23, 2025, and analyzed them using VOSviewer version 1.6.20. The analysis set a minimum occurrence threshold of 5 for keywords and a minimum citation threshold of 10 for documents. The results indicate that the number of publications has been steadily rising since 2017, with the most in 2023 (42 documents). A new species of functionally dioecious bush tomato from the “Solanum dioicum + S. echinatum group” of Solanum subgenus Leptostemonum is described. Solanum nectarifolium Martine & Brennan, sp. nov., is a member of the taxonomically challenging Solanum dioicum W.Fitzg. species complex in Australia and differs from other species in the group by the presence of prominent and conspicuous extrafloral nectaries on the abaxial leaf surfaces, a tinge of purple on the new growth and young fruiting calyces, and curved prickles on young stems. We have developed an optical simulator to test real-time optical two-way time–frequency transfer at the femtosecond level capable of simulating relative motion between two linked optical clock nodes up to Mach 1.8 with no moving parts. The technique is enabled by artificially Doppler shifting femtosecond pulses from auxiliary stabilized optical frequency combs. These pulses are exchanged between the nodes to simulate the Doppler shifts observed from a changing optical path length. We can continuously scan the simulated velocity from 14 to 620 m s⁻¹ while simultaneously measuring velocity-dependent clock shifts at much higher velocities than previously recorded. This system …

This study explores the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in shaping religious narratives in digital spaces, particularly on social media platforms and AI chatbots. Using sentiment analysis and qualitative content analysis, this research examines religious discourse in Indonesia, focusing on the impact of AI-driven content personalization, such as 'filter bubbles' and 'echo chambers'. The findings indicate that AI algorithms reinforce religious biases, intensifying polarization and discrimination, especially between majority and minority religious groups. Objectives: Determine the utility of low-flip angle "black bone" magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for cortical mandibular bone assessment compared to computed tomography (CT).

Methods: Quantification of cortical mandibular bone width was performed per Hamada et al. at 15 cross-sectional interdentium locations on pretreatment black bone MRI and CT for 15 oropharyngeal cancer patients, with interobserver analyses on a subset of three patients by 11 observers. CT and MRI measurements were compared using Bland-Altman analysis, Lin's concordance, and Deming regression; interobserver variability was assessed with absolute variance and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC).

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the common liver cancer, exhibits higher incidence in males. Here, we report that mice lacking bile acid (BA) regulators, Farnesoid X Receptor (FXR also termed NR1H4) and Small Heterodimer Partner (SHP also termed NR0B2), recapitulate the sex difference in liver cancer risk. Since few therapeutic options are available, we focused on understanding the intrinsic protection afforded to female livers. Transcriptomic analysis in control and NR1H4 and NR0B2 double knockout livers identified female-specific changes in metabolism, including amino acids, lipids, and steroids.
