This exhibition and catalog have had the close cooperation of the artist, Jim Starrett, to whom must go the first thanks. His professional experience and dedication as an artist and teacher has helped shape this exhibition. Brian Mains' design of the catalog and his essay contribute valuable perspectives for our audience. Starting with "Impersonations: Scott Greiger" in 2007, then "Bobby Ross: Drawings" in 2010, the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art began a tradition of presenting ideas and objects that stimulate discussion, challenge the audience, encourage open-mindedness and expand perspectives.

Lu and Steinhardt introduced the term “girih tiles” to describe the set of equilateral polygons that structures a colorful two-dimensional decagonal tiling on the Darb-e Imam in Isfahan, Iran (1453 CE) with distant roots in the five-fold symmetries articulated in brick on the Gonbad-e Qabud, a tomb tower dated to the late 12th century CE located at Maragha in western Iran. Their work seeks to establish the early existence of quasi-crystalline tilings long before such means of covering the plane were understood mathematically in the West. Strong design solutions are rarely arrived at by chance and are often inconceivable without an evolutionary process of ideation. Carefully crafted messages that take into account how a reader interprets an image demand the skills of a designer who is in a sense a translator, visualizing abstract concepts in concrete form. The first documented Native American art on paper includes the following drawings at the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha, Nebraska: In the Winter, 1833-1834 (two versions) by Sih-Chida (Yellow Feather) and Mato-Tope Battling a Cheyenne Chief with a Hatchet (1834) by Mato-Tope (Four Bears) as well as an untitled drawing not previously attributed to the latter. These images were produced and collected during the winter of 1833-1834 when the German Prince Maximilian of Wied and artist Karl Bodmer resided at Fort Clark in North Dakota. The Rohman name has been synonymous with the artistic an cultural life of Lincoln and greater Nebraska for decades. It can be seen on buildings and projects throughout the city and state, from Opera Omaha and the University of Nebraska- Lincoln opera program to the Museum of Nebraska Art in Kearney and Lincoln's own Meadowlark Music Festival. In summer 2005, the Rohman's were the first family to be honored with a named gallery at the Sheldon Museum of Art. In art, however, line has much more than a single dimension. This reinstallation of the permanent collection galleries continues Sheldon's focus on American women artists, The fact of women's historical exclusion from the art world provides a basis for our exploration, In a 1971 essay, art historian Linda Nochlin famously asked, "Why have there been no great women artists)" She detailed various exclusions women suffered-from working with male nude models, hence from apprenticeships, then art professions and academies, to which we add commercial gallery exhibitions, art criticism, and art history. Astronomy is becoming a forgotten science, which is evident by its relatively low enrollment figures compared to biology, chemistry, and physics. A portable inflatable planetarium brings relevance back to astronomy and offers support to students and educators by simulating realistic astronomical environments. This study sought to determine if learning is improved in an inflatable planetarium by adhering to the design principles of the cognitive theory of multimedia learning (CTML), specifically the coherence principle, in an authentic classroom. Two groups of 5th grade students of similar ability were purposefully assigned using a 1-teacher-to-many-students format with mean lesson lengths of 34 minutes. …

The author narrates how in Mao's China his personal experience took unexpected turns when China dramatically transformed politically, economically, and culturally, and how in reacting to these overwhelming changes he evolved from the role of artist to student activist, businessman, political prisoner and academic. The article focuses on the relationship between art and politics in Mao's China and how the two evolved into what the author characterizes as "market communism" in today’s China.
