Contemporary Clothing Issues Of Women Who Are Post-Mastectomy, Carol Beard
Dissertations
The intent of this three-paper format dissertation is to examine three topics germane to the clothing requirements and clothing acquisition of women who are postmastectomy. Each paper’s focus resides within a broader theme of addressing a population that has specialized clothing needs. While each study is independent in nature, they build on each other. The first paper describes the demographics of the population and how those demographics and treatment path for breast cancer provide a different framework for reaction to the retail offerings currently on the market. The next paper focuses on the association between demographics and treatment path of …

1 sheet in box. Title from container. Edition of 15. "Language Möbius is about my speaking process. The loop in my brain goes like this: hearing English, thinking in Korean, translating, then speaking in English. Language Möbius can be cut in half through the center twice. With each cut the sentences of the layers are cut in half, making them illegible. The final two rings lined together symbolize the two language tangled up in my head while in translation, which is why the sentences can't be read. The Möbius strip was letterpress printed using polymer plates on Somerset at Columbia …

36 unnumbered pages : all black and white illustrations Edition of 500. "Snow begins to fall, grows denser, and obliterates my view while exposing the cosmos. Ice shifts, opening a beautiful black void. A wondrous view as I begin my descent. On Thin Ice, In a Blizzard is a subseries of my project, A Field Guide to Snow and Ice. While all of the images in the field guide are excerpts of natural landscapes--just not all snow and ice--the images in this book were constructed in the darkroom. A winter of my imagination."--Paulamccartney.com. Stapled. Black paper cover cut-out in a …

The Dialectics Of Textile Hand Production : In Search Of Poetic Content : An Enquiry Into The Position Of The Traditional Textile Crafts, Jane Donlin
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
This thesis frames the significance of traditional textile hand production as a means of furthering the concept of aesthetic socio-cultural development. It approaches the traditional textile crafts in relation to the proposition that contemporary society is post-traditional and has broken away from nature. By examining the concept of tradition and the processes by which society transforms from the pre-modern context into the late modern, the changing nature of the crafts is explained. The research also examines wider social losses, gains and unforeseen consequences that occur in the continuous process of social transformation. My art praxis is contextualised within the framework …

Jack - Height Adjustable Office Desk Mechanism, John Walsh
Other
This mechanism was developed out of the increasing requirement for individual users to be able to adjust the height of their desk to an ergonomically correct position for their physicality. Sitting at a standard height desk (usually 720-740mm) for long durations has been linked to health problems, including back and posture problems and DVT, for those who fall either side of the average user in terms of anthropometric height range. A typical problem with "systems furniture" which is widely installed in most corporate open-plan offices is that components are "shared" for cost, functionality and aesthetic purposes. Typically, this means that …

These works are a reminder of the steps that brought us to where we are now and what we may become. They portray the emotional transformation of an individual as they mature with age as well as life experience, illustrating how beautiful and frightening this process can be. The works function similarly to inkblot tests, where the viewer's psyche makes them see what they want to see. These images evoke memories of personal events that are meant to cause the viewer to have a nostalgic emotional experience.
