Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The thin-layer chromatography technique (TLC) is a simple and inexpensive analysis commonly used to identify qualitatively the presence of carbohydrates in food samples such as mono- di and oligosaccharides particularly. TLC assay could be improved using image processing software for the semiquantitative determination of this type of compound. In the present work, TLC-image analysis with Silica Gel 60 TLC plates was used for the semiquantitative determination of 6 standards of carbohydrates (glucose, fructose, sucrose, 1-kestose, nystose, and fructofuranosylnystose). Subsequently, the areas of the spots of each compound were determined by digitizing in a conventional office scanner. Then, the segmentation of …

Development Of Software For The Calculation Of Kinetic Parameters From Solid Phase Reaction Data, Application To Synthesized N'-(4-Chlorobenzoyl)-N,N-Di-N-Butylthiourea Ligand And Its Nickel (Ii) Complex, Esra Kalem, Nevzat Külcü

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

In gas and liquid phase reactions, the conversion of starting materials to products is directly controlled by the rate of the reaction, whereas in solid state reactions, it is determined by the rate of diffusion. When working with thermal analysis methods, tens of thousands of data to be obtained from measured differential thermal analysis (DTA), thermal gravimetry (TG), and differential thermal gravimetry (DTG) curves must first be digitized, and then these digitized data must be converted to concentrations and thermal values using appropriate software programs. Companies that produce devices using thermal analysis techniques generally adapt the encrypted software programs they …

Impacts Of Some Metal Ions On Glutathione S-Transferase In The Liver Of Chalcalburnus Tarichi: An Endemic Species Of Lake Van, Muhammet Serhat Özaslan, Mehmet Çi̇ftci̇

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Glutathione-S-transferase (GSTs) is a multifunctional enzyme that provides homeostasis by catalyzing the first step of the formation of mercapturic acid, the end product in detoxification metabolism. They can prevent reactive electrophilic compounds from harming the body by covalently binding the same type of compounds to each other. In this study, we determined the in vitro inhibitory effects of metal ions such as Cu2+, Cd2+, Ag+, and Co2+ on GST enzyme activity. For this aim, GST was purified from C. tarichi Pallas liver with 37.36% yield and 29.304 EU/mg specific activity using the chromatographic method. The Vmax values of liver GST …

Triacylglycerol (TAG) compositions were performed using an incremental approach and confirmed by the results of MS and electronic spectra. The quantitative analysis of TAG was achieved by careful calibration, introducing correction factors for the sensitivity of each compound. The results showed that both Impatiens seed oils contain the same 23 TAGs. The …

Synthesis Of Titanium Dioxide Nanoparticles With Renewable Resources And Their Applications: Review, Umut Şafak Öztürk, Ali̇me Çitak

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Metal-oxide nanoparticles have reached a wide range of applications in the last ten years. Titanium dioxide nanoparticles stand out with their unique crystal structure and near-perfect physical and chemical properties at nanoscales (crystal size between 10-100 nm). It has created many applications with its white pigment, semiconductor state, and effective photocatalytic properties, but the synthesis of these nanoparticles is very damaging to nature. Titanium dioxide nanoparticles, which can be synthesized with toxic solvents or high-energy machines, have started to be synthesized by the green synthesis method, which has been a cheap and easy method in recent years. The application areas …

Water treatment has been an essential issue with the increasing population over 40 years. Researchers center on the major organic pollutants, such as dyes, pesticides, and pharmaceutical products. Photocatalytic degradation is one of the promising methods for aquatic organic pollutant treatment. Over the years, scientists have been working on developments for photocatalysts to enhance their pollutant degradation performances. From the reviewed studies, it is seen that properties like surface area, chemical, mechanical, and thermal stability, and uniform distribution of active sites are crucial, and an increase in these properties provides better degradation efficiency. In this sense, metal-organic frameworks as photocatalysts …

A Review On The Achievement Of Enzymatic Glycerol Carbonate Production, SELDA AYDOĞDU, NURCAN KAPUCU 2022 TÜBİTAK

A Review On The Achievement Of Enzymatic Glycerol Carbonate Production, Selda Aydoğdu, Nurcan Kapucu

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

High energy demand driven by decreasing fossil fuels, and global warming because of the burning of fossil fuels necessitates the utilization of renewable and clean energy. One of these renewable energy sources is biodiesel. The increasing trend of biodiesel over the last 20 years tends to result in increasing glycerol (Gly), which is produced during the biodiesel production in 10% ratio (w/w) as a by-product. Using Gly as raw material is an alternative way to produce bio-based new products such as glycerol carbonate (GlyC). GlyC is a value-added product of Gly/vegetable oil and this product can be used as a …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

In continuation of our interest in identifying new α-glucosidase inhibitors with potential to become antidiabetic drugs, this work focuses on the study of 4-(dimethylaminoalkyl)piperazine-1-carbodithioate derivatives as α-glucosidase inhibitors. The eight heterocyclic piperazine-dithiocarbamate complexes studied in this work contain a variety of substitutions on their benzene ring exhibiting potent, noncompetitive inhibition of α-glucosidase. Dithiocarbamate and piperazine moieties are important pharmacophores with promising therapeutic prospects featuring facilitated drug delivery due to their lipophilic nature in addition to their α-glucosidase inhibitory activity. Enzyme kinetics, molecular dynamics simulations, and docking studies revealed that the target compounds bind to a new allosteric site that is …

Comparison Of Denaturing Agent Effects In Enzymatic N-Glycan Release For Human Plasma N-Glycan Analysis, Haci Mehmet Kayili, Rokia Sakhta, Beki̇r Sali̇h

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Glycosylation is an essential posttranslational modification observed in the living proteome. Glycosylation profiles in glycoproteins can change in commonly observed diseases such as cancer. Identifying these changes is crucial in discovering new biomarkers for the early diagnosis of cancer. One of the main steps of N-glycan analysis is to release N-glycans from glycoproteins by specific enzymes. The study compares common denaturing agent combinations used in N-glycan release methods. In the study, human plasma was used to test the release methods of N-glycans containing different detergent combinations. The released N-glycans were labeled with the procainamide tag, …

New ligand based on p-tertbutyltetrathiacalix[4]arene blocked in 1,3-alternate conformation, was achieved via a multistep synthesis with the introduction of thiomethylpropoxy groups on the lower rim which leads to a neutral tecton. The combination of this p-tertbutyltetrathiacalix[4]arene (p-TCA-2), in 1, 3-alternate imposed conformation, with tetrahedral Ag(I)SbF6 salt, leads to the formation of neutral, new 2-D coordination network, which was structurally investigated in the solid state by X-ray diffraction methods on a single crystal.
