It was found that the importance of the model which the parent sets for the child in addition to the role assumed by the teacher play an important part in the development of the early childhood student. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between mobility and the standardized testing environment. The project focused on nine students who had a pronounced need for movement while learning and/or being tested. The study was conducted to determine whether the achievement scores of these nine students would be influenced by the denial or availability of movement while they were administered a standardized reading test. Twenty-one second grade students were the subjects. Two forms of Level B of the Gates-MacGinitie Reading Test were used. Kindergarten teachers can effectively and sensitively integrate the microcomputer into a curriculum which strives to meet the needs of the total child. This study indicates, through a review of professional journals and current books on the microcomputer in education, the need for technological skills. It demonstrates the presence of microcomputers in today's schools, even in the early years. Uses of the microcomputer in the kindergarten classroom are presented for consideration. Recommendations are included which call for informed and caring teachers to use the microcomputer to meet the social, emotional, and cognitive needs of the individual child.

Presented are past and present findings on cerebral dominance theory, giving the reader some understanding of what has been found about the manner in which children process information. The purpose of this study was to design a curriculum in music education for the intermediate grades so that a non-music major teacher could easily instruct music lessons. This study was conducted to determine if seventh and eighth grade students could develop keyboarding on the microcomputer using the computer-assisted method of instruction with minimal teacher interaction as effectively as students on electric typewriters using the traditional method of instruction. Specifically, an effort was made to determine the following difference between the computer-assisted method of instruction group and the traditional method of instruction group: gross words typed on straight-copy timed writings per minute, number of errors made on straight-copy timed writings, and technique on straight-copy. Effect Of Sex-Biased And Sex-Fair Item Selections On Interest Inventory Results, Christine Elizabeth Franklin-Panek

The purpose of this study was to examine the extent to which sex-biased items on an interest inventory stereotype the occupational interests by gender. Subjects were 194 eighth through twelfth grade students in rural, central Illinois public schools. A representative sample of students were administered a survey to determine which of these selection items depicted activities and occupations most commonly associated with males, females or both genders equally. Next, the interest inventory was revised to include only sex-fair terms.

Significant differences in occupational interests were found between males and females on the pretest using sex-biased selection items, with 73.3% of …

The purpose of this field study was to develop a model self-assessment process for local boards of education. Since 1977, this researcher has served as Assistant Regional Superintendent of Schools in Champaign and Ford Counties. From that experience the researcher determined that many local boards do not define and implement a formal self-evaluation process. Of the twenty-one school districts in Champaign and Ford Counties only three have planned and conducted a self-assessment program during the past four years. A multiple-baseline design was used to investigate the effects of test-taking instruction upon the social studies test scores of four seventh grade students labeled as learning disabled. This two-phased (baseline and post-intervention) study ran for two semesters and included 14 test entries. The following narrative is a personal account of the experiences, observations, and awarenesses of two students completing their Masters degrees in counseling psychology. It represents an effort to document what we view as an identifiable and stress-producing process of growth occurring within an academic framework. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of training on the patient handling methods of nursing personnel. The study sought (1) to determine the effect of three class variables (Group, Session and Task) on behavioral performance, (2) to assess the influence of twelve organismic variables on behavioral performance, and (3) to determine the relationship between written exam scores and trainee behavioral performance.

The Curriculum Media Development Center was conceptualized by the Illinois Office of Education and Vocational Services and the Illinois Depaartment of Corrections to meet the need for specially developed instructional materials in reading and math for Title I students being served by School District 428. The project began in 1974 and was located at the Illinois Youth Center, St. Charles.
