Continuing Professional Education For Teachers And Its Relationship To Teacher Effectiveness, Gregory Allen Knoblock
Continuing Professional Education For Teachers And Its Relationship To Teacher Effectiveness, Gregory Allen Knoblock
Dissertations
In this study, the relationship between continuing education for the teacher and that teacher's effectiveness as measured by an achievement test and an evaluative measure completed by the teacher's students is investigated. The importance that number of hours, currentness, and subject area has upon any relationship with effectiveness, and the relationship between motivation for entry into and satisfaction with graduate/postgraduate work are also studied.
Data necessary to test these relationships were obtained from two sources: a survey of mathematics teachers in Macomb County, Michigan, and the results from two student instruments randomly administered to the classes of those teachers volunteering …

Training Behavioral Assessment Interviewers: A Comparison Of Two Procedures, Raymond G. Miltenberger
Dissertations
Two procedures were used to teach behavioral assessment interviewing skills; a training manual and a one-to-one training procedure consisting of instructions, modeling, rehearsal and feedback. Four subjects, two graduate students and two seniors, were trained with each procedure. Interviewing skills were recorded in simulated assessment interviews conducted by each subject across baseline and treatment conditions. Each training procedure was evaluated in a multiple baseline across subjects design. The results showed that both procedures were equally effective for training behavioral interviewing skills, with all subjects reaching a level of 90-100% correct responding. Finally, a group of experts in behavior analysis rated …

Effect Of Professional Training Of The Secondary Art Teacher On The Quality Of Learning Experiences Provided In The Art Program, Julie D. Mcaloon
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
An art teacher currently acquires professional training through one of two schools: the department of education or the department of fine arts. Do the differences in training of the art teacher affect the quality of learning experiences provided in the secondary art program? A questionnaire was designed to survey the type of professional preparation of the teacher, as well as specific aspects of his or her art program. The survey was mailed to 85 secondary art teachers in the surrounding area. Surveys returned were grouped according to background: teachers having a degree in education and teachers having a degree in …
Learning Patterns: Inborn Or Acquired Stubbborness? Or To Hell And Back, June Levinsohn
Learning Patterns: Inborn Or Acquired Stubbborness? Or To Hell And Back, June Levinsohn
MA TESOL Collection
This paper examines the origins of and effects on my teaching of several personal and professional conflicts with the teacher-training process, and with subsequent classroom teaching. I describe their development in relation to my previous education, work experience, and mental "habits," and compare my prior medical training with that of a language teacher. Particular attention is paid to how the different epistemologies have affected my outlook as a teacher.
I use a recent teaching experience with Cambodian refugees in North Carolina to illustrate these conflicts--e.g., the problems that developed by attempting to create an ESL syllabus in the same spiral …

Developing Awareness Of Individuals In A Group Learning Context: A Self-Lesson Plan, Leslie Maria Turpin
Developing Awareness Of Individuals In A Group Learning Context: A Self-Lesson Plan, Leslie Maria Turpin
MA TESOL Collection
This paper addresses the question of how teachers teach themselves to be better teachers. Central to the paper are my assumptions that long range learning is self-directed and that the development of self-awareness is essential to growth in both learning and teaching. The paper is a case study tracing my own learning of one of my teaching objectives and is divided into three interrelated sections. The first section is a description of a model for teacher self-teaching: "the self-lesson plan." The model is a structure that teachers can use to guide themselves in the study of their own teaching objectives. …

Children develop attitudes at an early age, both positive and negative. Negative attitudes toward the aged can be changed through direct contact between the elderly and through aging education within the curriculum. Children have negative attitudes toward the elderly and the aging process. Direct contact can change these views by providing interaction between children and the elderly while aging education can bring about an awareness of the aging process and of the aged. With aging being an inevitable and important part of being human, it is necessary as well as important for educators to help children develop positive attitudes toward …
