The purpose of this study was to investigate secondary science and social studies teachers' attitudes and behaviors regarding solid waste recycling and classroom instruction in recycling, moreover, environmental education. The survey 's population was randomly selected from St. Louis County secondary schools. The study documented the need for control of solid waste through recycling and t he need to educate to improve recycling. It provided an extensive review of the literature on recycling instruction as well as classroom recycling activities and lesson plans.

Mainstreaming the gifted third- grader in reading should be accomplished through the implementation of a modified curriculum that meets the child's unique educational and specialized needs. This curriculum should be process and product oriented . Process modifications should include the use of higher levels of thinking, inductive reasoning, reasoning strategies, freedom of choice, and open-endedness . It should include appropriate changes of pacing and a variety of teaching models . The curriculum should result in a product that is based on instruction. This curriculum should be enriched with literature that exhibits fluent, flexible, original, and elaborative writing.

To determine the effects of scheduling on instrumental music programs in the public school districts of Saint Louis County, Missouri, a questionnaire was distributed to fifty-two instrumental music teachers in twenty-eight districts . We proposed to find common concerns shared by instrumental music teachers with regard to the scheduling of their classes. Our respondents concurred on specific scheduling situations that cause either alteration or complete elimination of their programs. Elementary curriculum is crowded with numerous non-academic offerings which compete for student time. The Wentzville R-IV School District initiated a pilot program using the SUCCESS in Reading a nd Writing approach to teaching reading in the Fall of 1984. This study was conducted to compare the effects of the SUCCESS approach on the vocabulary , comprehension , attitudes , and behavior of the students participating in the pilot program to those who were taught in the Houghton-Mifflin basal reading program . The following narrative is a personal account of the experiences, observations, and awarenesses of two students completing their Masters degrees in counseling psychology. It represents an effort to document what we view as an identifiable and stress-producing process of growth occurring within an academic framework. We feel that this duality of personal growth and professional development is inadequately addressed in graduate programs. Yet, we have found this unstated, underlying, and inevitable threat of uncertainty, risk, and change to be as predictable a reality as the theoretical coursework required.
