Jurisprudential And Legal Perspectives On The Protection Of Rights And Freedoms In The 2021 Basic Statute Of The Sultanate Of Oman, M. Mhalla, A. K. Hamid, A. Al-Riyami
Information Sciences Letters
In this paper, we examine the constitutional protection of economic rights and freedoms in the Basic Statute of the Sultanate of Oman. Through descriptive, analytical, and historical approaches, the study identifies the protection and mechanisms for attaining social justice according to the Basic Statute to achieve Omans 2040 vision. The study concludes that courts must refrain from applying laws that violate the Basic Statute, and that weak guarantees of economic and social rights and freedoms hinder their protection and prevent the achievement of Oman Vision 2040. The study recommends spreading a culture of human rights and education on economic, social, …

HPD Articles
INTRODUCTION: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by communication difficulty and social deficits. The current treatment employs the use of psychosocial therapy and medication as well as alternative treatments. This is a pilot study that assessed whether participation in judo improved behavior and social skills in children with ASD.
METHODS: Twenty-four students from the Riverside Youth Judo Club were included in the study, after obtaining consent from their parents to participate. Inclusion criteria included participation in judo classes for more than one month and diagnosis of ASD and/or a developmental disability. Parent(s) of the children signed a …
Autism, Comorbidities, And Adaptive Functioning: A Potential Moderator, Joshua J. Montrenes
Autism, Comorbidities, And Adaptive Functioning: A Potential Moderator, Joshua J. Montrenes
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Deficits in adaptive functioning and the presence of comorbid symptomatology are both commonly associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Previous research has identified relationships between functional level (e.g., intellectual quotient [IQ], adaptive functioning [AF]) and comorbid symptomatology in ASD. However, further insight into the relationship between AF, comorbid psychopathology, and ASD is unclear. Specifically, how AF affects the relationship between ASD and comorbid conditions is not well understood. Whether AF moderates the relationship between autism symptom severity and comorbid symptom severity in toddlers with ASD was examined. ASD symptom severity positively correlated with comorbid symptom severity across domains and negatively …

Nutrient Supplementation During The Prenatal Period In Substance-Using Mothers: A Narrative Review Of The Effects On Offspring Development., Catherine Serwatka, Adrianne K. Griebel-Thompson, Rina D. Eiden, Kai Ling Kong
Manuscripts, Articles, Book Chapters and Other Papers
Substance use during pregnancy increases the risk for poor developmental outcomes of the offspring, and for substance-dependent mothers, abstaining from substance use during pregnancy is often difficult. Given the addictive nature of many substances, strategies that may mitigate the harmful effects of prenatal substance exposure are important. Prenatal nutrient supplementation is an emerging intervention that may improve developmental outcomes among substance-exposed offspring. We provide a narrative review of the literature on micronutrient and fatty acid supplementation during pregnancies exposed to substance use in relation to offspring developmental outcomes. We first discuss animal models exposed to ethanol during pregnancy with supplementation …
Managing Chloride Impairment By Expanding And Strengthening Stormwater Regulation In Maine, Heather R. Kenyon
Managing Chloride Impairment By Expanding And Strengthening Stormwater Regulation In Maine, Heather R. Kenyon
Ocean and Coastal Law Journal
A highly contributing factor to impairment of water quality is stormwater that flows across the urban landscape, picking up pollutants along the way, which is directed by a system of stormwater infrastructure to be deposited in the nearest water body. Though state regulations to manage stormwater are in place, there is a need to strengthen and expand them to address chloride impairment. Chloride impairment stems from the use of road salt during the winter season and is a serious concern for current and future urban streams. The only cost-effective method to address this impairment is reducing the amount that is …

Annual Growth Of 6.5-8% Until 2028: How?, Jesus Felipe
Annual Growth Of 6.5-8% Until 2028: How?, Jesus Felipe
Angelo King Institute for Economic and Business Studies (AKI)
THE KEY outcomes of President Bongbong Marcos’ Philippine Development Plan 2023–2028—to increase income per capita, reduce poverty, and create employment—rest on a necessary condition: to attain a 6.5-8% annual growth rate through 2023 to 2028. If achieved, the Philippines would resemble its East Asian neighbors, which attained similarly high growth rates decades ago. This is much needed given the still low wages and per capita income of the country. Yet, this “target” poses several questions.
Southern Sea Otter (Enhydra Lutris Nereis) Fur Morphology, Thermal Function, And Buoyancy Across Ontogeny, Kate Riordan
Southern Sea Otter (Enhydra Lutris Nereis) Fur Morphology, Thermal Function, And Buoyancy Across Ontogeny, Kate Riordan
Master's Theses
Sea otters (Enhydra lutris) have the densest fur of any animal, and the hairs function to trap a layer of air that is used for insulation. When a sea otter is born, it has a natal pelage (baby fur), and sea otters eventually molt that fur and replace it with a pelt resembling the adult fur. Sea otter fur is composed of 3 types of hairs: underhairs, intermediate hairs, and guard hairs. Sea otters are more susceptible to the negative effects of oiling from oil spills compared to other marine mammal species because they solely rely on fur …
What Innovation Means For The Philippines, Felipe Jesus
What Innovation Means For The Philippines, Felipe Jesus
Angelo King Institute for Economic and Business Studies (AKI)
The administration argues that the future of the nation is “innovation,” as this is the catalyst to sustaining growth. On paper, this certainly looks like a very defensible strategy. The Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023–2028’s Chapter 8: Advance Research and Development, Technology, and Innovation, lays out strategies, programs, and legislative priorities to be pursued to promote innovation among industries and identifies metrics to measure the country’s progress in harnessing research and development, technology, and innovation.

Motor Milestone Acquisition And Sleep-Related Learning And Development In Infancy, Aaron Demasi
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
The aim of this dissertation is to summarize and extend work in the field of infant sleep and motor development. Chapter 1 summarizes what is currently known about typical infant sleep development and the way that sleep impacts learning throughout infancy. Chapter 2 describes two experiments showing the importance of napping and night sleep in the consolidation of gross motor learning. Given that sleep is beneficial for learning throughout human infancy, the remainder of the dissertation investigates how learning (in this case, motor development) impacts sleep. Chapter 3 establishes the possible role of sleep-dependent movement in sleep disruption resulting from …

Women Parliamentarians In India Since 1991: Challenges And Opportunities, Vatsala Bhusry
Hatfield Graduate Journal of Public Affairs
India gained a new economic orientation in 1991 following the policy of economic liberalization. It offered the opportunities to close the gender gap in various fields including the political field as visualized in the original goal of the Indian constitution. However, there is an acute underrepresentation of women at the national political level and there is a lack of evidence-based research studies to analyze this gap. This study maps the political trajectories of 13 elected women leaders holding offices at the national level since 2019. To better understand the challenges and opportunities at both macro and micro levels they came …

Economicdevelopment In The Postcolonial And Postwar Era In East Asia: A Comparison Of Taiwan And South Korea, Eliot R. Johnston
Economicdevelopment In The Postcolonial And Postwar Era In East Asia: A Comparison Of Taiwan And South Korea, Eliot R. Johnston
Senior Theses
This thesis examines the postwar political economy of South Korea and Taiwan, aiming to find how Taiwan achieved higher GDP per capita and lower corruption perception than South Korea when both countries carried out similar policies as they developed their economies. By comparing a historical overview of policy and outcome and taking economic measures, the thesis seeks to find a method that could be applied to other developing countries. Though the measurements used were insufficient to prove analysis, enough was found to give plausible suggestions for the difference in the outcome, such as the South Korean reliance on mega conglomerates …
Integrating Movement Breaks To Support Developmental Goals In Early Intervention: A Method Development, Cassandra Laskowski
Integrating Movement Breaks To Support Developmental Goals In Early Intervention: A Method Development, Cassandra Laskowski
Expressive Therapies Capstone Theses
The implementation of movement in school classrooms and other learning spaces has become more prominent throughout recent years. A growing body of research argues that movement and creativity can promote classroom functioning, social/emotional learning, and overall development. However, there is an absence of literature examining the implementation of dance and movement in early childhood intervention programs. This paper explored the history and structures of early intervention programs in the United States as well as dance/movement therapy (DMT) in relation to children, development and learning environments. Based on the reviewed literature, a method was developed and implemented in a local early …
How Violence Shaped The Next Generation: Intergenerational Impacts Of Abduction In Northern Uganda, Mansi Kalra
How Violence Shaped The Next Generation: Intergenerational Impacts Of Abduction In Northern Uganda, Mansi Kalra
Master's Theses
Northern Uganda has long been a major conflict zone, home to countless atrocities at the hands of the terrorist group the Lord’s Resistance Army. Widespread kidnappings occurred throughout the 1980s into the early 2000s, and today many of these individuals have been able to return to their homes. However, the scope of trauma does not end when an abductee returns home, it carries on in unpredictable ways and into the lives of family and community members. This brings to question, are the impacts of abduction intergenerational and can they impact the children of former abductees? This study utilizes survey data …

"Filipino Enough": Racism And Filipino American Student Leadership, Janrey Millare Javier
Master's Theses
Filipino American students often begin their leadership journey while developing a stronger sense of their racial identity when they begin and navigate college. This study examines the phenomena of racism among Filipino American student leaders as their racial identity positions them to experience a dual layer of racialization as Asian Americans among other communities of color and Filipino Americans within the Asian American identity. Semi- structured interviews were conducted among four graduating or recently graduated Filipino American student leaders across the US. The phenomenology methodology approach allowed semi-structured interviews to capture the essence of the experience among Filipino American student …

Bura Ura, Kendu Waiyo (Rain Falls, Water Rises): The Tyranny Of Water Insecurity And An Agenda For Abolition In Kodi (Sumba Island, Indonesia), Cynthia Twyford Fowler
Faculty Scholarship
This article explores the dynamic links between transformations in freshwater ecosystems and social changes in the Kodi region of Sumba (Indonesia). Insights into the politics surrounding changing hydrosocial systems are generated by using a feminist anthropology approach together with critical development studies and intersectionality theory. In aligning with fellow feminists whose advocacy sometimes takes the form of scholarship, I lay out a five-prong strategy for collecting empirical evidence from persons who are vulnerable when hydrological systems change and offer eight principles for future development interventions. The argument related to the five-prong toolkit is that by conducting intensive, extensive, opportunistic, and …
Temporal Relevance Of Parent Qualities And Behaviors For Predicting Young Adults’ Emotion Regulation And Romantic Relationships, Saleena Wilson
Temporal Relevance Of Parent Qualities And Behaviors For Predicting Young Adults’ Emotion Regulation And Romantic Relationships, Saleena Wilson
Masters Theses, 2020-current
The present study sought to compare the utility of adolescents’ parental relationship qualities and behaviors for predicting young adult emotion regulation as well as the mediating role of emotion regulation in the intergenerational transmission of relationship qualities and behaviors. Early adolescence is characterized by the emergence of new emotions, responsibilities, and budding romantic relationships. Parental relationships with positive qualities may provide a safe environment for teens to explore these unfamiliar experiences. In late adolescence, teens depend less on this secure base but benefit from the utilization of specific relationship behaviors, modeled to them by their parents, in increasingly important …

From Morphogens To Monogamy: The Wnt Pathway’S Role In Monogamy, Demira Jakupovic
From Morphogens To Monogamy: The Wnt Pathway’S Role In Monogamy, Demira Jakupovic
Biology Honors Theses
The fish species Amatitlania nigrofasciata, convict cichlids, exhibit the behavior of serial monogamy. Dopamine has been linked to the success of pair bonding and monogamy. Dopaminergic (DA) neurons, the receptors of dopamine, are the reason the reward feeling of dopamine is felt by organisms. These neurons are housed in the Ventral Tegmental Area (VTA). The Wnt morphogen, which works through the Wnt pathway, has been previously shown to be a key player in the formation of the midbrain, the area where the VTA resides. This thesis delves into comparing gene expression related to the Wnt morphogen between convict cichlids and …
Seasonal Plasticity And Correlations Among Butterfly Wing Color Patterns: Insights Into Modularity, Rachel Lynn Urban
Seasonal Plasticity And Correlations Among Butterfly Wing Color Patterns: Insights Into Modularity, Rachel Lynn Urban
Undergraduate Honors Thesis Collection
Dealing with the wide ranges of temperatures throughout the year can be a challenge for ectothermic animals like insects. Phenotypic plasticity, the development of different phenotypes depending on the environment, is one way that animals can combat this problem. However, traits are often integrated and share developmental or genetic mechanisms which can limit the adaptive response of an individual trait. Modules, groups of traits that vary together but are independent of other traits, often share developmental mechanisms and therefore can facilitate the evolution of these adaptive traits. The seasonally variable melanistic wing patterns elements of the Colias butterfly are an …
Culture In Computing: The Importance Of Developing Gender-Inclusive Software, Creighton France
Culture In Computing: The Importance Of Developing Gender-Inclusive Software, Creighton France
Computer Science and Computer Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses
The field of computing as we know it today exists because of the contributions of numerous female mathematicians, computer scientists, and programmers. While working with hardware was viewed as “a man’s job” during the mid-20th century, computing and programming was viewed as a noble and high-paying field for women to occupy. However, as time has progressed, the U.S. has seen a decrease in the number of women pursuing computer science. The idea that computing is a masculine discipline is common in the U.S. today for reasons such as male-centered marketing of electronics and gadgets, an inaccurate representation of what it …

Genetic Regulation Of Müllerian Duct Regression, Malcolm Moses
Genetic Regulation Of Müllerian Duct Regression, Malcolm Moses
Dissertations & Theses (Open Access)
Mammals, including humans, develop progenitor tissues for both male and female reproductive tract organs before they fully differentiate into a male or female tract. The progenitor tissue for the male reproductive tract is known as the Wolffian duct (WD), and the progenitor tissue for the female reproductive tract is the Müllerian duct (MD). The WD further differentiates into the vas deferens, epididymis, and seminal vesicle, while the MD differentiates into the oviduct, uterus and upper vagina. An essential step in sex differentiation for males is the regression of the MD. This regression initiates with anti-Müllerian hormone (Amh) transcription …

Increasing Social-Emotional Skills For First-Graders, Rebecka Baxter
Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
Many grade school children may not have yet developed social-emotional skills and may have difficulty managing their emotions when they have challenges or difficulties in school. Children may feel overwhelmed, break rules, act out, or cry as a result of not knowing how to control their emotions. When children learn how to manage their stress and regulate their emotions, they are able to have positive relationships and perform better in school. In order to address the issue of lack of social-emotional skills in elementary school children, I created a two-day lesson for first graders at Barrett Elementary School in Morgan …
