Heidegger E O Pensamento Contemporâneo Da Comunidade: Para Uma Hermenêutica Ontológica Do Ser-Em-Comum, Andre De Macedo Duarte

Andre de Macedo Duarte

The article discusses some theoretical relations between certain theses formulated by Jean-Luc Nancy and Roberto Esposito concerning the being of the community and what could be called as Heidegger’s ontological hermeneutics of being-together, incipiently elaborated between the period of Being and Time and the early thirties. In a first moment, after discussing Heidegger’s politicization of some of Being and Time existentials in his texts of the beginning of the 30’s decade, we formulate the hypothesis that Heidegger’s thought of the community is not compatible with nazi racism, although there are some political pronunciations of the early 30’s where he himself …

Covenant Nation: The Politics Of Grace In Early American Literature, Justin M. Scott-Coe 2012 Claremont Graduate University

Covenant Nation: The Politics Of Grace In Early American Literature, Justin M. Scott-Coe

CGU Theses & Dissertations

The argument of this dissertation is that a critical reading of the concept of "covenant" in early American writings is instrumental to understanding the paradoxes in the American political concepts of freedom and equality. Following Slavoj Zizek's theoretical approach to theology, I trace the covenant concept in early American literature from the theological expressions and disputes in Puritan Massachusetts through Jonathan Edwards's Freedom of Will and the essays of Ralph Waldo Emerson, showing how the covenant theology of colonial New England dispersed into more "secular" forms of what may be called an American political theology. The first chapter provides an …

Politics And Heidegger: Aristotle, Superman, And Žižek, Babette Babich 2012 Fordham University

Politics And Heidegger: Aristotle, Superman, And Žižek, Babette Babich

Articles and Chapters in Academic Book Collections

This essay discusses Heidegger's thinking on the political and technology in the context of metaphysics in an age that is increasingly directed to both technology and the imaginary or the virtual. The context of Aristotelian phronesis is traced back to Aristotle's youth in Macedonia and the circumstance of war and world conquest, to the allure of a comic book character (that would be the Action Comic's figure of Superman) and the cinematic seduction of a pair of eyeglasses to conclude with a review of Latour's network actants and Žižek on Marxism (and Occupy Wall Street).

Book Review: The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration In The Age Of Colorblindness, Nick J. Sciullo 2011 Georgia State University

Book Review: The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration In The Age Of Colorblindness, Nick J. Sciullo

Nick J. Sciullo

Many in the legal academy have heard of Michelle Alexander’s new book, The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in an Age of Colorblindness. It has been making waves. One need only attend any number of legal conferences in the past year or so, or read through the footnotes in recent law review articles. Furthermore, this book has been reviewed in journals from a number of academic fields, suggesting Alexander has provided a text with profound insights across the university and public spheres. While I will briefly talk about the book as a book, I will spend the majority of this …

Social Justice In Turbulent Times: Critical Race Theory And Occupy Wall Street, Nick J. Sciullo 2011 Georgia State University

Social Justice In Turbulent Times: Critical Race Theory And Occupy Wall Street, Nick J. Sciullo

Nick J. Sciullo

In this brief article, I tackle several issues that are critically important to progressive move(ment)s in the law and in society as a whole. I am convinced that the progressive community can make great strides in enriching the law and people’s experience with it through continued articulation and combined sense of theory and practice. We need to move beyond litigation and engage our critical consciousness to embrace activism on all fronts. This is why I locate a positive politics of struggle in the Occupy Movements that I believe progressives ought to embrace . We must simultaneously come to grips with …

On The Language Of (Counter)Terrorism And The Legal Geography Of Terror, Nick J. Sciullo 2011 Georgia State University

On The Language Of (Counter)Terrorism And The Legal Geography Of Terror, Nick J. Sciullo

Nick J. Sciullo

In this paper, I will discuss the difficulties in defining a place for the global war on terror and the implications this lack of terrestrial bounds has for the law. I will then discuss the way language impacts not only the idea of terrorism, but also the politics of place. On our journey will be philosophers Martin Heidegger and Jacques Derrida, discussed extensively below, who help flesh out the important politics of language and place. Ultimately, I will urge for a deconstructive approach to the global war on terror, which I hope will encourage a more thoughtful consideration of the …

The Lure Of Pan(En)Theism: Difference And Desire In _Divine Enticement_, Mary-Jane V. Rubenstein 2011 Wesleyan University

The Lure Of Pan(En)Theism: Difference And Desire In _Divine Enticement_, Mary-Jane V. Rubenstein

Mary-Jane Rubenstein

This response to Karmen MacKendrick’s work follows the thematic trail of desire through Divine Enticement (2012), seeking to clarify the relationship in MacKendrick’s work between God and creation. While MacKendrick expresses an initial desire for an "immanent divine," especially in relation to the work of St. Augustine, she later feels more drawn to "a world that in its beauty calls out the name of its creator" than to a world "in which the creator is simply present." This brief engagement explores MacKendrick’s logic of seduction in relation to the panentheist and pantheist theologies of Cusa and Bruno, ultimately suggesting that …

Singularisation Et Subjectivation Subjectivation Éthico-Politique. Arendt Et Foucault Autour De La Question : Qui Est Le Nouvel Acteur Politique ?, Andre de Macedo Duarte 2011 Universidade Federal do Paraná - UFPR, Brasil

Singularisation Et Subjectivation Subjectivation Éthico-Politique. Arendt Et Foucault Autour De La Question : Qui Est Le Nouvel Acteur Politique ?, Andre De Macedo Duarte

Andre de Macedo Duarte

The text proposes and discusses the hypothesis that Arendt’s notion of singularization and Foucault’s notion of subjectivation offer important conceptual contributions to the understanding of who are the actors and how do they act together in the new and autonomous political collectives, taking under consideration some post-identitarian minorities movements. The text is divided into three main parts. Firstly, I discuss Arendt’s notion of political action as the manifestation of the political agents singularity, which articulates with her understanding of politics as an end in itself. This notion seems important to understanding new forms of political engagement which do not limit …

"Via Platonica Zum Unbewussten. Platon Und Freud", Wien: Turia + Kant, 2012 (Pdf: Inhaltsverzeichnis, Vegetti Vorwort, Einleitung)., Marco Solinas 2011 Florence University

"Via Platonica Zum Unbewussten. Platon Und Freud", Wien: Turia + Kant, 2012 (Pdf: Inhaltsverzeichnis, Vegetti Vorwort, Einleitung)., Marco Solinas

Marco Solinas

Geothermal Resources Under The Mining Law Regime--Problems & Possibilities, Richard A. Grisel 2011 Lewis & Clark Law School

Geothermal Resources Under The Mining Law Regime--Problems & Possibilities, Richard A. Grisel

Richard A Grisel

The development of geothermal resources has been greatly hampered by the legal and institutional framework governing geothermal energy resources. This framework has been plagued by conflicting mining and water laws, anachronistic common law systems of property rights, problematic legal classifications of geothermal resources, and jurisdictional variances from state to state and between states and the Federal government. These issues have combined to significantly hinder the development of what will be a vital resource for our nation’s future energy needs.

This thesis concerns one way to address the suboptimal development of geothermal energy resources. Using the Federal acquisition of exclusive airspace …
