The Northern Great Plains Inventory & Monitoring Network (NGPN) was established to develop and provide scientifically credible information on the current status and long-term trends of the composition, structure, and function of ecosystems in thirteen parks located in five northern Great Plains states. NGPN identified upland plant communities, exotic plant early detection, and riparian lowland communities as vital signs that can be used to better understand the condition of terrestrial park ecosystems (Gitzen et al. 2010). The state Office of Tourism and numerous entities around the state have endorsed the Charter. KATIE, A 26 year-old volunteer coordinator for an educational nonprofit, was on her fifth "job" since graduating from college and in the process of applying for a sixth. Her resume read like a magazine article for 20-somethings: Six jobs to try before 30! She had served as an AmeriCorps volunteer, an international volunteer, worked a seasonal job with a film institute, completed a contract for an environmental group, and finally settled into a volunteer coordinator position. The Montana Hunter Access Funding Initiative, also known as I-161 (Appendix B), appeared as a citizeninitiated state statute (developed by an individual from Billings, MT) on the November 2, 2010 statewide ballot in Montana. It was approved by the voters 53.8 percent to 46.2 percent. I-161 was proposed to increase nonresident big game license fees and abolish outfitter-sponsored licenses. The initiative, which caused much controversy and debate, aims to reverse trends relating to the pay-to-play movement by nonresidents. This report converts zip codes of nonresident visitors to Montana into 210 Designated Market Areas and provides an investigation of four population segments. The first analysis looks at DMA representation divided by visitors’ primary reason for being in Montana with vacationers as the primary focus. The second section looks at repeat and first time vacationers to Montana. Finally, the zip codes of vacationers who spent at least one night in a selected travel region or CVB county were chosen for further analysis.

The population of interest was attendees of the 2011 Montana Folk Festival and the sample was random from that population. Surveys were given to festival goers by random selection so as to attempt to represent the whole population.

Adolescent pregnancy continues to be a social issue that has been given much attention; however, little research exists concerning the leisure of pregnant adolescents. Skateboarding began in California over 50 years ago and has grown internationally.  The purpose of this study was to assess the behavior of park visitors at Los Osos Skate Park.  This park was fully supervised and this study can serve as a tool for park management.  The researcher observed the skate park during operating hours throughout April 2011.  The subjects of this study were park visitors actively skateboarding, or passively watching.  The dominant demographic for skateboarders were adolescent males.  This study found peak times were weekdays afterschool, adult park visitors display the most positive behavior, and middle school park visitors …

The Massachusetts Ocean Management Plan (Plan) completed in 2009 recognized recreational boating as an activity with “significant actual and prospective conflicts among multiple waterway uses in Massachusetts” and included the economic value of recreational boating as a key socio-economic indicator that will be used to inform coastal management. At the time of Plan completion, statistically robust recreational boating data were identified as an important need for comprehensive ocean planning.

To fill this data gap, the 2010 Massachusetts Recreational Boater Survey gathered information on boating activity in Massachusetts’ coastal and ocean waters directly from recreational boaters. Researchers sent 10,000 surveys to …
