Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to identify the key themes of practical implications of Lean, Six Sigma (SS) and Lean Six Sigma (LSS) in the public administration sector.

Design/methodology/approach: A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted based on the following academic publishers: Emerald, Elsevier/Science Direct, Sage, Springer Link, Taylor & Francis, and Willey online. Fifty-six articles published between 2004 and 2020 were found. Based on the “affinity diagram”, the practical implications of Lean, SS and LSS were classified into key themes.

Adequate child nutrition is critical to child development, yet child malnutrition is prevalent in crisis settings. However, the intersection of malnutrition and disasters is sparse. This study reviews existing evidence on nutrition responses and outcomes for infants and young children during times of crisis. The scoping review was conducted via two approaches: a systematic search and a purposive search. For the systematic search, two key online databases, PubMed and Science Direct, were utilized. This study aims to investigate the Egyptian entrepreneurial ecosystem from a gendered perspective, focusing on women entrepreneurs and experts’ views of the ecosystem and its effect on women entrepreneurs and their ventures. The study uses a qualitative approach incorporating semi-structured interviews with fourteen women entrepreneurs and experts with long experience in the field of entrepreneurship. The analysis shows that the pillars of the ecosystem namely policy, culture, finance, education and training, and networking have impactful influences on women entrepreneurs in Egypt, affecting their entrepreneurial journey across the different levels of venturing. The staggeringly disproportionate numbers of youth of color in the juvenile court system in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, compelled the Pittsburgh Foundation to launch the Youth Voices Juvenile Justice Pilot project. The initiative sought to learn from youth who have firsthand knowledge of the juvenile court system and from those at risk of such an experience in order to inform the foundation’s efforts to improve outcomes for youth.

In recent years, foundations of all types and sizes have made commitments to advance racial equity and justice. But good intentions can be undermined by the strategic and administrative structures and processes that shape foundation decisions. Social critics have deconstructed and shed light on the ways in which institutional operating procedures reinforce racism and other forms of injustice in police departments, the courts, and health and welfare agencies. So too, foundation practices warrant serious review.

Since 1989, the Dutch Charity Lotteries have provided multiyear unrestricted funding, a type of grantmaking that is fairly unique for the Netherlands, to a wide range of nonprofits at home and abroad. This article shares insights into how unrestricted grantmaking influences the relationship between funders and grantees, specifically highlighting how staff at a sample of grantee organizations experience collaboration with this large social enterprise. It discusses hidden and invisible power dynamics that exist in the relationship, even when there are few formal restrictions on grantees’ spending.
