Aim: This study assesses the effects of prevention education, prevention personal motivation, prevention knowledge, and past exposure to violent living conditions on HIV prevention behavioral skills among historically black college and University (HBCU) students.

Study Design: Quasi-experimental One-shot Case Study Design.

Place and duration of study: Fayetteville State University; November 2012 to May 2013.

Pembiayaan kesehatan sekitar 146 (60%) penderita talasemia di Banyumas, tahun 2011 ditanggung rumah tangga dalam bentuk pembayaran langsung (out of pocket payment). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis ability to pay, willingness to pay, dan need assessment pembiayaan kesehatan penderita talasemia di Kabupaten Banyumas. Jenis penelitian ini adalah observasional analitik dengan rancangan studi kasus. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain studi cross sectional dengan teknik pengambilan sampel simple random sampling. Jumlah sampel penelitian 30 responden yang mempunyai anggota keluarga penderita talasemia di Kabupaten Banyumas. Selama penerapan Diagnosis Related Group di Rumah Sakit Umum Pusat (RSUP) Dr. Sardjito, terjadi kesenjangan tarif biaya riil pelayanan kesehatan dengan tarif Indonesia Case Base Groups (INA-CBGs). Penyebab terbesar kesenjangan tarif tersebut adalah pelayanan obat dan penggunaan sumber daya laboratorium yang tidak efisien. Biaya pelayanan penunjang medis untuk pasien leukemia limfoblastik akut adalah sekitar 23,8% dari total biaya pelayanan kesehatan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat efisiensi penggunan sumber daya laboratorium dan pengaruh terhadap kesenjangan tarif. Responding To The Affordable Care Act: Health Insurance Exchange Policy Diffusion, Margaret Worman

Political Science Honors Projects

Following the passage of the Affordable Care Act, the government of each U.S. state either adopted a state run health insurance exchange or defaulted to a federally run exchange. This study uses event history analysis to examine this decision making process and the broader diffusion of health insurance exchange policy among the states. The results of this analysis indicate that states with a government controlled by the Democratic Party, a moralistic political culture, and a large uninsured population were more likely to adopt a state run exchange at an earlier date.

The present study is a comparative approach to revolutions and their effect on population health during the post-conflict period. Specifically, it attempts to determine whether revolutions that are accompanied by a coup d'état have a significant negative impact on post-revolution population health. Degree of revolutionary violence, governmental structures, and pre-revolution health systems is of particular interest as relevant variables. The study focuses on the Latin American countries of Nicaragua and Chile due to their similar region and timeframe. What began as an effort to encourage medical doctors to screen and treat patients whose weight put them at risk for health problems has transformed into a much broader public health campaign to address the root causes of obesity.
