There has been steady interest in the ideology of equity in schooling practices reflected in the written artifacts of the United States, especially in the last thirty years. However, equality-laden language is often used without definition or critical examination. The assumed meaning of equality terminology is problematic--especially for classroom teachers who are directly held accountable for the practice of equality policy. This inquiry critically evaluates the multiple implications of this common-sense usage of language related to issues of equality, equity, sameness, and even democracy. Shaping educational policy

This study of teacher absenteeism in Indonesia is one of the most comprehensive and large-scale studies of teacher absenteeism undertaken anywhere in the world. Specially trained teams made two unannounced visits to each of the sampled schools during their regular teaching and learning time. The teams collected information on teacher absence, observed classes, conducted interviews with principals and teachers, and administered short tests to samples of students. Visit 1 was in late 2013 and Visit 2 in early 2014. Interviews were also held with district-level officials. The research examined not only teachers’ absence from school, but also any absence from …

Conclusion

Millions of children and adolescents are unsupervised after school, often because their parents need to work during those hours. When these students are unsupervised, they are at risk for involvement in inappropraite inappropriate behaviors. After-school programs are a potential solution to this problem because they provide students with supervised, safe activities that may also increase academic or social skills. They also provide opportunities for academic tutoring, and social mentoring. Across the nation, over 1.3 million threeand four-year olds attend state funded pre-K programs in 40 states (and Washington D.C.).1 In Arkansas, over 25,000 three- and four-year olds are enrolled in state-funded programs. Since 2008, approximately $111 million a year of state funding has been spent on preKindergarten in Arkansas. 2 In the 2014 election season, the topic of pre-K and state funding for pre-K has been debated in a number of state races, including Arkansas. Therefore, the purpose of this policy brief is to describe pre-K in Arkansas and summarize the existing research examining the impact of pre-K.

The GPA measure, we believe, is a better representation of student achievement on statewide standardized exams. In this report, we are presenting a list of the top 25 schools in each area. In some cases, these "top 25 lists" will contain more than 25 schools as some schools' GPA scores will be identical. This is not a new phenomenon, as we also exceeded 25 schools in previous reports when using the percent proficient and advanced metric as an indicator for student achievement; however, there are fewer ties using the more precise GPA measure.

The equity and adequacy of facilities funding for charter schools (as well as traditional public schools (TPS)) is a topic of hot debate in Arkansas and across the country. Proponents of charters argue that charter schools are burdened due to a lack of facilities funding. Other argue that there are great needs in our TPS districts as well, and that these needs should be met first. This brief describes what facilities funding is currently available to charter schools in Arkansas and what other states are doing that we could possibly leverage here in the Natural State.

This research aims to examine the relationship between population change and college readiness in Nebraska. Nebraska as well as three counties: Box Butte County, Lancaster County, and Scotts Bluff County were used as locations for this study. The process for analyzing the relationship is done in three parts. First, data was collected from the Nebraska Department of Education about high school variables such as teacher characteristics and attendance rates. Next, U.S. Census Bureau data was used to create socio-economic standards for the various locations. This dissertation is a comparative policy study of changes in education and incarceration of the past 40 years. Following national and global trends, New York City saw public school and carceral policies converge as the city experienced massive deindustrialization and governmental cutbacks while its political economy shifted to one driven by finance, investment, real estate, and the growth of a low-wage service sector. These changes dramatically increased economic inequality across racial lines, and spurred the intimate linkage of public education and state incarceration as institutional tools for the mass management of low-income communities of color. This study aims to evaluate the role that a lack of literacy and education has played in Haiti's historic and presently low level of human development. The pedagogical philosophies of two educationists, Paolo Friere and Maurice Dartigue, are used throughout the study as lenses from which to read and interpret the history of Haitian education -its many failed attempts, and recurrent challenges- in creating a literate and educated population.
