Identifikasi Sektor Katalisator Dalam Perekonomian Wilayah Provinsi Sulawesi Utara, Syarwani Canon

Jurnal Ekonomi dan Pembangunan Indonesia

Direct relation model has been known as an analytical model to measure the relationship between economic sectors. However, there has not been known an analysis to measure the catalyst sector. Generally, the analytical model of relations of economic activities is an aggregative model which neglects the function of catalyst sector. Possibly, this will ignore its influence, when sometimes it is important to know the acceleration this influence for planning purposes. This paper uses analytical model of catalyst sectors of nine sectors in North Sulawesi Province with 56 causality combinations in each of the cataiyst sector. The result shows that nine …

Structural Analysis Of Affect In The Pre-Purchase Context, Rosemary R. Seva, Henry Been Lirn Duh, Martin G. Helander 2010 De La Salle University

Structural Analysis Of Affect In The Pre-Purchase Context, Rosemary R. Seva, Henry Been Lirn Duh, Martin G. Helander

DLSU Business & Economics Review

Previous studies on consumption related affect did not identify specific components in the pre-purchase context. This article reviewed theoretical bases of affect and its relationship to product judgment and determined the components and structure of pre-purchase affect. Field studies were conducted to gather an initial list of affect experienced before purchasing “highinvolvement” products. An initial list of 94 pre-purchase affect was identified and trimmed down to 18 after further statistical analysis. A second study was conducted to determine the structure of the pre-purchase emotion set (PES) derived from the first study. Multidimensional scaling was used and four clusters of emotion …

Corruption In Contemporary Nigeria, Gabriel K. Afolabi 2010 Babcock University, Nigeria

Corruption In Contemporary Nigeria, Gabriel K. Afolabi

DLSU Business & Economics Review

Events in contemporary Nigeria point to the fact that corruption is a cankerworm that has eaten into the fabric of every facet of national life. Public officials demand payment of ransom before and/or after performing their legitimate functions. Businesspeople shortchange their customers through unfair dealings, while law-enforcement agents demand bribes and collaborate with fraudulent elements in the society. Employee theft is a common occurrence in many organizations. This study focuses on the nature of corruption, as well as causes, and strategies to adopt in curbing this disease in contemporary Nigeria. It concludes on the need to adopt a multidimensional approach, …

Besides access to credit, the presence of consulting services and formation of clusters play an important role in microenterprises performance. I analyze the impact of consulting services and clustering on microenterprises' profits and assets in Egypt and Turkey, using a unique dataset on medium and small enterprises in both countries. I find that use of consulting services, and clustering, positively affect the profits and assets of microenterprises.

When It Pays More To Earn Less, Robyn Leslie 2010 Oberlin College

When It Pays More To Earn Less, Robyn Leslie

Honors Papers

The poorest individuals in the United States face some of the highest marginal tax rates on additional earned income. These tax rates arise from the benefit reduction rates of cash and in-kind transfer programs, and are often above 100%. Tax rates over 100% create a situation for low-income individuals where earning more leaves them with less after tax income. These implicit tax rates caused by welfare programs have an additive effect. If an individual participates in multiple welfare programs he or she will face a higher tax rate on his or her earned income. This study reveals that the structures …

The Impact Of A Tuition Fee Policy In Scotland; Evidence From A Natural Experiment, Margot Hanley 2010 Oberlin College

The Impact Of A Tuition Fee Policy In Scotland; Evidence From A Natural Experiment, Margot Hanley

Honors Papers

In this paper I investigate the relationship between tuition fees and enrollment in higher education; in particular, the effect that the abolishment of upfront tuition fees (which were replaced by a graduate payment scheme) in Scotland for Scottish students had on their enrollment rate into universities in England. Several explanations have been offered as to why tuition response might be relatively large. Tuition is the most visible college price, and it is the one that is most inescapable. College tuitions are conspicuous, and students are unusually conscious of them. Annual increases generally are well publicized and often debated publicly. In …

Narrowing The Gap: New Evidence On Earnings Differentials Based On Sexual Orientation, Mikayla Lytton 2010 Oberlin College

Narrowing The Gap: New Evidence On Earnings Differentials Based On Sexual Orientation, Mikayla Lytton

Honors Papers

Using General Social Survey data from 1989 to 2008, I estimate earnings differentials between heterosexual and queer workers. When following the model specified in earlier studies, I find that queer men earn between 11.6% less than their heterosexual counterparts and that queer women earned approximately 11.6% more than their heterosexual counterparts. When respecifying the model to account for the gender composition of individuals’ occupations, I find that queer men’s earnings are not statistically different from straight men’s earnings, and the earnings advantage enjoyed by queer women drops marginally, to 10.5%. This addition significantly improves upon the explanatory power of the …

Can In-Prison Interventions Affect Post-Release Outcomes? Evidence From Correctional Education Programs Based On An Econometric Analysis Of Recidivism, Jack Lucas Tilley 2010 Oberlin College

Can In-Prison Interventions Affect Post-Release Outcomes? Evidence From Correctional Education Programs Based On An Econometric Analysis Of Recidivism, Jack Lucas Tilley

Honors Papers

This paper evaluates the impact of in-prison educational and vocational programs on recidivism among former inmates released from prisons in five different states during 1994. It is the first study to consider this particular topic using a subset of nationally representative data. Two sets of microeconometric analyses are performed in order to identify potential program effects. Initially, a basic multivariate framework is considered in which special consideration is given to problems of program heterogeneity; next, a propensity score matching (PSM) approach is used to address the issue of self-selection inherent in observational studies of this kind. The findings of this …

Proliferation Of Tail Risks And Policy Responses In The Eu Financial Markets, Lucjan Orlowski 2010 Sacred Heart University

Proliferation Of Tail Risks And Policy Responses In The Eu Financial Markets, Lucjan Orlowski

WCBT Faculty Publications

This study draws attention to the proliferation of tail risks in financial markets prior to and during the course of the recent global financial crisis. It examines the level of tail risks in selected equity, interbank lending and foreign exchange markets in selected EU Member States in relation to the United States. The extent of tail risks is assessed by applying general error distribution (GED) parameterization in GARCH volatility tests of the examined variables. The empirical tests prove that tail risks were pronounced across all of the examined European financial markets throughout the crisis. They were also significant prior to …

Student Works (2010-2019)

Econophysics is an interdisciplinary research field applying the mathematical methods of statistical physics to economics and finance. It emphasizes quantitative analysis of large amounts of economic and financial data as oppose to the more philosophical approach of political economics. A popular topic studied in econophysics is the distribution of wealth. Many models have been proposed to explain the trading dynamics [12,13] leading to the distribution of wealth universally observed in many countries. A more recent topic in econophysics is the movement of money studied by Brockmann in [19,20]. In this work, we are interested in studying the relation between the distribution …
