There is disparity in the quality of school experiences encountered by students of different races, languages, social classes, and communities. There are also systemic issues that affect the quality of education received by students attending schools primarily comprised of students from the lower socioeconomic status and ethnic minorities. Students of color and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds consistently earn lower grades and lower test scores than their peers. Despite many education reform efforts in the 1980s and 1990s, the academic achievement gap continues to persist.AVID program was evaluated as an academic intervention program geared toward closing the academic achievement gap. …

Companies that supply the Federal government with goods and services are required by law to have a supplier diversity program/initiative. They are also required to appoint a supplier diversity professional to manage the program. Programs are audited by the Small Business Administration to determine due diligence efforts to achieve the mandated annual spend, education, and development requirements from the Veterans Administration for small businesses. Supplier diversity programs typically begin at the token level and can usually be developed to a world class level if the initiatives are strategically integrated in the corporation's supply chain and supported by senior management. A gap persists in K-12 academic achievement, high school persistence, college attendance, and educational attainment by income level and race/ethnicity. Issues of race and ethnicity in education are often intertwined with those of economic status because African Americans and Latinos are more likely to live in poverty and have lower median household incomes than are Whites in US. Much of the literature regarding the achievement gap focuses on barriers faced by low-income and minority students; two barriers in particular are low student motivation and inadequate academic preparation. These are but two of the difficult questions that arise when one examines the claim that crime is a public wrong. I take it, though, that their difficulty is an indication of the importance of thinking through the presuppositions and implications of this conception of crime, not a reason to abandon it. A thorough 'thinking through' is too large and complex a task for this chapter, but it is possible to make a case here for the right way to proceed with such an undertaking. The Medicaid Home and Community Based Services Waiver (HCBS) funds services for people with developmental disabilities in community based group homes. The purpose of the Medicaid HCBS Waiver is to: (1) support alternatives to institutions, (2) promote independence, (3) maximize functioning, and (4) support community integration. Direct care staff members have primary, day to day contact with people with developmental disabilities living in group home settings. Residential agencies for people with developmental disabilities have the responsibility to train direct care staff in the use of effective teaching strategies in order to realize the purpose of the Medicaid HCBS waiver. Hypothesis: That comments collected from agency “experts” during the scoping phase of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process would be disproportionately represented as changes in subsequent drafts of NorthMet’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

Methods: Tabular analysis of data collected from the Minnesota DNR publication of Response to the Public Scoping Projects PolyMet Mining Inc.; NorthMet Project. 2005

The author discusses factors that affect middle school students' motivations to engage in reading. First, reading research is reviewed to determine an outline of factors that are currently known to affect students' reading motivations: gender differences, influences on reading/academic successes, interests and experiences with reading, motivational factors, reading methodology and material preferences, use of cornerstone reading skills, and learning styles. Second, building upon current reading research, the author presents results garnered from administered student and teacher reading surveys. Businesses, governments and communities are increasingly interested in measuring the non-financial impacts of their activities and investments. This assessment often takes the form of measurement models that utilize a Triple Bottom Line (TBL) framework, namely looking at the areas ofthe environment, the economy, and the social simultaneously. Despite its many accounting flaws, more and more organizations adopt this philosophy by applying it literally in the form of impact reports. In this framework, the social dimension is the most challenging to measure. Because of its complexities, this aspect of TBL reporting has often been vague and lack rigor.

Crisis management has become one of the most important public policy areas in recent decades with greater numbers of manmade and natural disasters. History showed that well-implemented crisis management policies can save lives and reduce costs in a disaster. Literature offered various suggestions for more effective crisis management policies with different techniques utilizing different theoretical frameworks. Informal relationships among crisis management employees were suggested to have a positive impact on crisis management effectiveness. Metaevaluation By Formal Evaluation Theory Of Aid Evaluation Work, Ryoh Sasaki

This document describes the metaevaluation of aid evaluation reports generated in a single fiscal year (FY 2004). Sample reports (n=102) were chosen basically by stratified random sampling from the pool of evaluation reports (N=1034). The pool consists of ex post evaluation reports (and some extensive midterm and termination evaluation reports) obtained from Web sites.

The Key Aid Evaluation Checklist (KAEC) was developed based on the well-known Key Evaluation Checklist (KEC) (Scriven, 2005, 2006). A supplemental checklist, Subdimensional Checklist (SDC) was also applied for the metaevaluation.

This report shows annual estimates of the population for Nebraska and its counties and cities. Demographic patterns and trends, including changes in the components of population change, are illustrated. As the passage of time takes us further from Census 2000 and closer to the 2010 Census, it is important to see how official estimates show the specific changes that have been occurring at both the state and local level.
