The Carbon Frame: Lobbying For Renewable Energy In The European Union, Kyle S. Herman

This paper demonstrates how using the word "carbon" within global warming debates severely impedes lobbyists in favor of building stronger renewable energy policies in the European Union (EU). Within the EU, carbon is widely used to speak about many of the perils of climate change, global warming, energy policy, and contingent subject matters. In political circles, media outlets, and public debates, carbon acts a the pillar for many policies, discussions, and ideas related to fundamental errors of transferring energy from fossil fuels and nuclear sources. In 2010, Mapping Food Insecurity’s Project Director (PD) participated in “The Campaign to Promote Food Security in Cumberland County, Maine.” The Campaign drew together a 60 member coalition to address rapidly increasing food insecurity challenges in the county. It produced a report with a series of recommendations grouped under six strategic community goals. One of the recommendations called for the use of ‘mapping and connectivity software to determine location of vulnerable populations and services in order to plan best future delivery and use of food access services in Cumberland County

Spatial Analysis Of Fatal Automobile Crashes In Kentucky, William Nathan Oris

Fatal automobile crashes have claimed the lives of over 33,000 people each year in the United States since 1995. As in any point event, fatal crash events do not occur randomly in time or space. The objectives of this study were to identify spatial patterns and hot spots in FARS (Fatal Analysis Reporting System) fatal crash events based on temporal and demographic characteristics. The methods employed included 1) rate calculation using FARS points and average daily traffic flow; 2) planar kernel density estimation of FARS crash events based on temporal and demographic attributes within the data; and 3) two case …

The Nebraska Legislature's Planning Committee was created in 2009 with the passage of LB 653, in order to help establish a process of long-term state planning with the Nebraska Legislature. The committee was created to assist state government in identifying emerging trends, assets, and challenges of the state and the long-term implications of the decisions made by the Nebraska Legislature.

On December 8, 2011, the U.S. Census Bureau released five‐year American Community Survey (ACS) estimates for the combined years of 2006 through 2010, making available social, economic, housing and demographic statistics for every community in Nebraska and the nation. Also available are estimates for Nebraska’s Legislative Districts.

The data are based on a rolling national sample survey mailed to about 3 million addresses each year, resulting in nearly 2 million final interviews each year from 2006 through 2010. By pooling several years of survey responses, the ACS can generate detailed statistical portraits of smaller geographies such as legislative districts. The …

This report reviews the history and development of these strategies and portrays their methods as following one of three models: resolution, reinvestment, and realignment.

Past Publications

The percentage of the population that is minority (non-White or Hispanic/Latino) increased between 2000 and 2010 in each 5-year age category (under 5 years through age 85 or older). The minority population comprises more than 30 percent of those under age 5 in 2010, roughly triple the percentage in 1990. See pages 3-4. Four Nebraska counties are “majorityminority” for those under age 5, and eight counties have 40 percent or more of their youngest children being minority.

Information from the 2000 Census released on March 15th by the US Census Bureau put Nebraska’s population at 1,711,263 persons. This was an 8.4 percent increase since the 1990 Census count.

The state’s population grew in two ways: births exceeded deaths, and more people moved into the state than moved out. The difference between births and deaths is referred to as natural change. If births exceed deaths, there is a natural increase in population; but if deaths exceed births, there is natural decrease in population.
