German textbooks encompass various facets of German culture. However, teachers in Indonesia often overlook the significance of German culture. The primary objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive account of the German cultural components found within German language textbooks used in Indonesian universities. To achieve this goal, a descriptive qualitative methodology was employed, where the textbooks were analyzed according to Byram's theory of eight cultural dimensions. This study analyzes how Shaila Abdullah's Saffron Dreams portrays and resists Orientalists' stereotypes of Muslim women. Through Saffron Dreams, Abdullah attempts to put up a fight against the negative stereotypes of Orientalists toward Muslim women. It is shown based on how the main protagonist is portrayed as a Muslim Pakistani-American woman who lost her husband in 9/11, experiencing mistreatment from her host land society due to the spreading negative stereotypes of Muslim women. Critical language awareness (CLA) emphasizes how “language practices are invested with power relations and ideological processes which people are often unaware of” (Fairclough, 1992, p.7). Linguistics in Pursuit of Justice opens by stating that ‘This book is fundamentally about fairness’ (xiii). As the title and succinct opening line suggest, this book explores the role that language plays in mediating social (in)equality, (in)justice, and how the science of linguistics can promote justice and eliminate injustice. In eleven chapters, Baugh examines the linguistic dimensions of sociohistorical, economic and racial inequality, how language use is situated in linguistic stratification and subordination, and the exclusion, discrimination and disadvantage that result from such hierarchies.

Auditory attribution of speaker gender has historically been assumed to operate within a binary framework. The prevalence of gender diversity and its associated sociophonetic variability motivates an examination of how listeners perceptually represent these diverse voices. Utterances from 30 transgender (1 agender individual, 15 non-binary individuals, 7 transgender men, and 7 transgender women) and 30 cisgender (15 men and 15 women) speakers were used in an auditory free classification paradigm, in which cisgender listeners classified the speakers on perceived general similarity and gender identity. Multidimensional scaling of listeners’ classifications revealed twodimensional solutions as the best fit for general similarity classifications. …

This research derives from the interest in learning the cultural differences in citation practices in the academic genre of Master's thesis of native Spanish (Ee), non-native Filipino writers of Spanish (Fe), native Filipino writers of English (Fi), and American writers of English. El estudio presente compara las experiencias de una hispanohablante nativo biligüe de Harrisonburg, Virginia, con patrones de voz que son común en otras investigaciones más amplias. This ethnographic case study examines how fourth graders in a New York City Spanish/English dual language bilingual public school navigate hegemonic language ideologies about Spanish. Drawing on the scholarship of raciolinguistic ideologies—those that position the language practices of people of color as inherently deficient (Flores & Rosa, 2015), I analyze the discourse of seven Kiskeyanx students to examine how they navigate the widespread raciolinguistic marginalization of Kiskeyanxs— a demographic that is racialized as more Black than other Spanish-speaking groups.
