Collection Development In Media Centers In Overseas America And International Independent Schools In Asia, Joyce Bush Whalen

The purpose of this study was to investigate the collection development process in lower school media centers in overseas American and international schools in Asia to see if the collections reflect the ethnic diversity of the student body.

Admissions Directors of the schools were asked to provide information regarding the citizenship of the students in kindergarten through grade five in their schools. A questionnaire was sent to the media specialists at the six schools in the International Association of Southeast Asian Schools conference. Higher education has seen the emergence of new models of student support services. These models vary greatly, ranging from those that, for example, simply streamline the registration process, to others that base new building construction on studies done about the information and service access needs of students.

Legal Deposit Of Electronic Publications : Perpustakaan Negara Malaysia's Experience, Shahrozat Ibrahim

The main purpose of this study is to analyse the statistical data of non-print/ electronic publications received and registered by the National Depository Centre, Perpustakaan Negara Malaysia since the enforcement of the Deposit of Library Material Act, 1986. Statistical data of non-print/electronic publications received from the years 1988-2000 were obtained from the National Depository Centre, Perpustakaan Negara Malaysia. The study revealed that out of the 7,926 titles of non-print publications received and registered from the year 1988-2000, only 165 titles (2.08%) are electronic publications, of which CD-ROMs constitute 1.87%, while diskettes and computer software constitute 0.19% and 0.03% respectively. This article examines the impact of electronic technology on libraries and scholarship. It focuses on some of the challenges of using electronic resources in research libraries, which include the cost of acquiring electronic formats and the effect that such expenditures have on other library services and collection development practices. The article also explores how electronic resources have changed the way students and scholars conduct research.
