The National Archives of Malaysia has a vision of becoming the centre of excellence for information sources and services by the year 2020. This vision is a support to make Malaysia a developed nation with strong moral and ethical values through the national heritage. The literature indicates that in an archival context, user studies remain unlimited. Even in Malaysia, archival user study, especially on archival user information needs, have not been empirically investigated. Diversity, Inclusion, And Social Justice In Library Technical Services, Rhonda Kauffman, Martina S. Anderson

Published Works

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Libraries recently embraced a large-scale initiative to incorporate the values of diversity, inclusion, and social justice (DISJ) into library practices. In early 2017, the MIT collections directorate task force on DISJ released a report with recommendations for embedding DISJ values into the daily work of archives, technical services, preservation, scholarly communications, and collections strategy staff. This chapter focuses on the challenges and opportunities in undertaking a sustained effort to achieve DISJ specifically within technical services. Queer Political Organization In Israel, And Palestine: Shifting Away From Homonationalism, Tristan Blaisdell

In this project, I present research I have done on the issue of pink washing queer Israeli and Palestinian citizens and homonationalism within Israel and Palestine. I also create an exhibit brief outlining a hypothetical museum exhibit on this topic to be put up at the museum of culture and environment. The first section outlines the history and theory of my exhibit, and a brief personal statement where I talk about my interest in the subject and where I’m coming from before I design this exhibit. The article informs about the strategy librarians at the University of Georgia's Alexander Campbell King Law Library used for applying Optical character recognition (OCR) to hundreds of documents during their multi-month COVID-19 pandemic lockdown; presenting a new opportunity for their OCR project because they needed work that staffers could do remotely; and how some staffers had duties that could only be performed in the building and were greatly limited after.

Determining Shelving Accuracy Via Sampling In A Community College Library, John P. Delooper, Devika Gonsalves

Publications and Research

During the Fall 2017 semester, staff at the Hudson County Community College (HCCC), Library began to notice that many books listed as available in the catalog were often not being found on the shelves when patrons attempted to retrieve them. This situation puzzled library leadership because HCCC had recently conducted an inventory and removed all missing items from its holdings. To determine the cause of this discrepancy, HCCC staff decided to sample the library’s collection to determine if books were available at the expected locations. From this, the library found that a high percentage of its books were not present …
