Utah Employer Attitudes Towards Sponsoring Day Care For Employees, Diane Hart
Utah Employer Attitudes Towards Sponsoring Day Care For Employees, Diane Hart
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The purposes of this study were to: 1) examine and contrast hospital administrator attitudes and manufacturing company president (or manager) attitudes in relation to the possibility of having more Utah employers establish organized day care facilities on sites of employment, and 2) determine which factors of employee composition and available facilities and services affect employer attitudes towards day care involvement.
Information from the questionnaire developed for the study was statistically analyzed by the Pearson r correlation coefficient and one-way analysis of variance. Many factors proved to be statistically significant.
Overall, it was found that hospitals were more interested in day …
An Agricultural Model For The Central And Sacaba Valleys In Cochabamba, Bolivia, Carlos A. Ibañez-Meier
An Agricultural Model For The Central And Sacaba Valleys In Cochabamba, Bolivia, Carlos A. Ibañez-Meier
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The purpose of this thesis is to assess the impact of increasing the quantity of water supplied for irrigated agriculture in the Central and Sacaba Valleys. Specifically, this study examines the feasibility of Misicuni multiple-purpose project in Cochabamba, Bolivia. This project involves construction of a reservoir for the purpose of irrigating and the above mentioned areas, supply potable water to the urban areas, and produced electrical power. The Misicuni Survey, Ministerio de Agricultura y Asuntos Campesinos (MACA) bulletins, and information from other institutions were used as a source of data for the formulation of a linear programming model which represents …
Oil And Iranian Development, Alireza Emami
Oil And Iranian Development, Alireza Emami
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The main concern of this study was two-fold: (a) to compute the Iranian economy's long-run growth potential consistent with full-capacity utilization of the output and stocks with the existing current and capital account matrices; and (b) to simulate the impacts that changing petroleum export levels have on capital formation, employment, and income distribution.
The analysis proceeded by developing a closed dynamic interindustry model in order to compute the "turnpike" growth rate. The uniform or "turnpike" growth rate computed for the base current and capital account matrices was 1.7 percent per annum. This describes the long-run growth potential for Iran. Given …

The Unemployment And Reemployment Experiences Of Displaced Workers Resulting From The Shutdown Of Two Utah Mines: The Park City Ventures And The Burgin Mine, Richard A. Davidson
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The purpose of this paper is to study the unemployment and reemployment experiences of displaced workers. Two mines were shut down in 1978 in Utah: the Park City Ventures Mine located in Park City and the Burgin Mine located in Eureka. Data were collected from questionnaires mailed to all the displaced workers of both mines and from personal interviews conducted with mine officials, officials of formal job-search agencies, and union representatives.
The shutdown at Park City Ventures affected 350 workers, and the shutdown at the Burgin Mine affected 153. Both mines qualified for and were certified for Trade Readjustment Act …

Economic Impacts Of Irrigation Technologies In The Sevier River Basin, Theodore R. Frickel
Economic Impacts Of Irrigation Technologies In The Sevier River Basin, Theodore R. Frickel
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The economic well-being of the semi-arid intermountain area requires efficient use of available water supplies. Agriculture, the major water-consuming industry, depends on irrigation water. The adoption of sprinkler systems that increase irrigation "efficiencies" and increase water available for irrigation upstream may interfere with the "tenure" of downstream water rights. The farmers would like to use the water saved to irrigate additional acreages or crop to provide greater profits.
The problem in letting farmers expand their irrigated acreage is that the individual farmer increases his profits through increased consumptive use. The consequent reduction in return flows reduces the water available to …

Incentive Arbitration And Time-Related Bargaining Costs, Zvi A. Livne
Incentive Arbitration And Time-Related Bargaining Costs, Zvi A. Livne
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
In the context of the Nash Bargaining Problem an arbitrator is supposed to choose a solution point on the basis of ‘fairness’ requirements. By introducing time-related costs to the parties’ utility functions, a new class of arbitration changes the rules of the negotiations, and particularly the parties’ payoffs, and lets the parties negotiate. The changes are such that one or both parties are reimbursed by the arbitrator for their bargaining costs. A procedure in which only the party who makes the final concession is compensated, leads (in the case of complete information) to single dominating equilibrium strategies and to a …
An Extension Of The Nash Bargaining Problem: Introducing Time-Related Bargaining Costs, Zvi A. Livne
An Extension Of The Nash Bargaining Problem: Introducing Time-Related Bargaining Costs, Zvi A. Livne
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
The Nash Bargaining is reformulated by introducing time-related costs into the von Neumann-Morgenstern utility functions of the parties. A set of mathematical requirements on the solution is satisfied uniquely by a function called the Extended Raiffa Solution. The properties of this function are investigated. It is shown to coincide with the Nash Cooperative Solution (of a related Bargaining Problem) when the parties have identical discount rates. An interpretation of the solution and of the formal requirements is detailed. In this model the ‘bargaining power’ of the parties is determined by the bargaining costs related to the duration of the negotiations.

Optimal Intertemporal Taxation And The Public Debt, Christophe Chamley
Optimal Intertemporal Taxation And The Public Debt, Christophe Chamley
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
The optimal taxation problem is analyzed in a general equilibrium model of optimal growth. The private sector is represented by a single competitive household endowed with perfect foresight, and an infinite life. This household maximizes an intertemporal stationary utility function. Public consumption is financed by taxes on consumption, labor income and capital income (or wealth), or by borrowing. Different policies (first-best and second-best), are analyzed for various subsets of instruments. The problem of the optimal level of the public debt is also considered. The general conclusion supports the relative efficiency of the consumption tax with respect to the other instruments.

Evaluation Of The New Mexico State Police Selective Traffic Enforcement Program Of Fy 1978, University Of New Mexico Bureau Of Business And Economic Research
BBER Publications
This report assesses the FY 1978 New Mexico State Police Selective Traffic Enforcement Program across four patrol districts in New Mexico. Using before-and-after accident analyses, the study found little evidence that the program reduced accidents, alcohol-related crashes, or fatalities, and concluded that declining manpower levels likely limited the effectiveness of the enforcement effort.

This evaluation examines the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office FY 1978 Selective Traffic Enforcement Program in Albuquerque's South Valley. Analysis of accident and citation data found that despite substantial increases in traffic citations, the program did not significantly reduce total, fatal and injury, or alcohol-related accidents, suggesting that limited manpower and inconsistent patrol coverage reduced its effectiveness.
