Direct Composite Resin Restoration Of Anterior Maxillary Teeth And Esthetic Smile Design: A Case Report, Christina Widya Nugrohowati, Wignyo Hadriyanto, Tunjung Nugraheni
Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
Dental esthetic complex involves more than one caries with malformed shape and malposition. Dental trauma most commonly affects maxillary anterior teeth, and subsequently affects the esthetics, functions, and psychological well-being of the individual. Composite resins have become an integral part of contemporary restorative and minimally invasive dentistry. Objective: To summarize the successful use of direct composite resin restoration in the management of a 29-year old male patient. Case Report: A 29-year old male patient presenting with multiple secondary caries and crown fractures in the anterior maxillary teeth, resulting in an unaesthetic smile. Comprehensive esthetic dental treatment was carried out. The …
A Notion Of Prominence For Games With Natural-Language Labels, Alessandro Sontuoso, Sudeep Bhatia
A Notion Of Prominence For Games With Natural-Language Labels, Alessandro Sontuoso, Sudeep Bhatia
ESI Working Papers
We study games with natural-language labels (i.e., strategic problems where options are denoted by words), for which we propose and test a measurable characterization of prominence. We assume that – ceteris paribus – players find particularly prominent those strategies that are denoted by words more frequently used in their everyday language. To operationalize this assumption, we suggest that the prominence of a strategy-label is correlated with its frequency of occurrence in large text corpora, such as the Google Books corpus (“n-gram” frequency). In testing for the strategic use of word frequency, we consider experimental games with different incentive structures (such …

Revisiting A Funding Model For University-Led Dental Clinics: The Case Of Complete Denture Fabrication, Rohana Ahmad, Nur Amalina Zul, Siti Anisah Mohtar, Marc Tennant, Tuti Ningseh Mohd-Dom
Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
Objectives: University-led dental clinics are rarely seen as core to the national healthcare system. Thus, when publicly funded universities experience a decline in government support, dental clinic services operated by students are confronted by a potentially inadequate operating budget. Prompted by the need for strategic resource allocation, this study seeks to quantify the resources consumed in the construction of complete dentures by undergraduate students in an effort to identify opportunities for cost-cutting measures. Methods: Clinical cases were retrieved from the logbooks of graduating students of Class 2015, and patient records were reviewed to identify and quantify all clinical …

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
Sodium hypochlorite is a commonly used irrigation solution in endodontic procedures, but it irritates tissues and has toxic effects. Lentinus edodes is a mushroom that has antibacterial properties. Enterococcus faecalis is an anaerobic bacterium that can cause root canal treatment failure. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of L. edodes extract on the eradication of E. faecalis biofilms. Methods: Phytochemical tests of L. edodes were performed to analyze alkaloids, steroids, triterpenoids, phenolics, tannins, flavonoids, and glycosides from this extract qualitatively. E. faecalis ATCC 29212 was cultured in brain heart infusion broth for 24 h at 37°C …
Consistent Misspecification Testing In Spatial Autoregressive Models, Jungyoon Lee, Peter C. B. Phillips, Francesca Rossi
Consistent Misspecification Testing In Spatial Autoregressive Models, Jungyoon Lee, Peter C. B. Phillips, Francesca Rossi
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
Spatial autoregressive (SAR) and related models offer flexible yet parsimonious ways to model spatial or network interaction. SAR specifications typically rely on a particular parametric functional form and an exogenous choice of the so-called spatial weight matrix with only limited guidance from theory in making these specifications. The choice of a SAR model over other alternatives, such as spatial Durbin (SD) or spatial lagged X (SLX) models, is often arbitrary, raising issues of potential specification error. To address such issues, this paper develops an omnibus specification test within the SAR framework that can detect general forms of misspecification including that …

In summary, using available price risk management tools can effectively reduce some of the market price risk variability that is inherent in agricultural production that are caused by either production or price risk.
Optimally Stubborn, Anna Sanktjohanser
Optimally Stubborn, Anna Sanktjohanser
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
I consider a bargaining game with two types of players – rational and stubborn. Rational players choose demands at each point in time. Stubborn players are restricted to choose from the set of “insistent” strategies that always make the same demand and never accept anything less. However, their initial choice of demand is unrestricted. I characterize the equilibria of this game. I show that while pooling equilibria exist, fully separating equilibria do not. Relative to the case with exogenous behavioral types, strong behavioral predictions emerge: in the limit, players randomize over at most two demands. However, unlike in a world …
Features Of Corporate Governance In Higher Education System, Bobir Bakhtiyorovich Adizov
Features Of Corporate Governance In Higher Education System, Bobir Bakhtiyorovich Adizov
Scientific reports of Bukhara State University
The entry of our country into the system of market relations, which has caused many social, organizational, economic, institutional, cultural, personnel, ethical and other problems has affected higher education. Sector reform, innovation development policy, and flexible government regulation require the development of mixed models using market mechanisms to increase the efficiency of a socially significant sector. The article discusses some issues of implementing corporate governance in higher education in the context of the transition to self-financing of universities

Nebraska Monthly Economic Indicators: August 26, 2020, Eric Thompson
Leading Economic Indicator Reports
The LEI-N rose by 0.59% during July of 2020. July marked the third consecutive increase in the leading indicator after sharp declines in March and April. The July result indicates that the Nebraska economy will grow over the next 6 months, continuing a steady recovery from large economic losses in March and April. Five of the six components of the leading indicator improved during July. Airline passenger enplanements continued a steady rebound, and there was a modest increase in building permits for single-family homes. There also was a slight drop in initial claims for unemployment insurance and a drop in …
2020 Nebraska Property Tax Changes, J. David Aiken
2020 Nebraska Property Tax Changes, J. David Aiken
Cornhusker Economics
The Nebraska Unicameral enacted significant property tax relief legislation in the closing days of the 2020 legislative session. The last-minute compromise was negotiated by seven legislators selected by the Speaker. The compromise estab-lishes a refundable state income tax credit of an estimated 6% of the property taxes paid for local schools (excluding property taxes for school bonds and school budget overrides). Taxpayers will be able to claim this credit on next year’s Ne-braska state income tax return. For fiscal years (FYs) 2021-22 through 2023-24 (i.e. from July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2024), the amount availa-ble for the refundable state …
A Simple, Ecologically Rational Rule For Settling Found Property Disputes, Bart J. Wilson
A Simple, Ecologically Rational Rule For Settling Found Property Disputes, Bart J. Wilson
ESI Publications
Who has property in a found item X, which is contained in Y? The finder of X or the person who has property in Y? The common law says it depends. It depends upon whether the owner of Y knew about X, or whether X was lost or mislaid, or how small the weight of X is relative to Y (as compared to its value), or whether the finder was an employee of the owner of Y, to name just a few. Wilson (2020) hypothesizes that humans universally cognize property as being contained in a …
Trust And Trustworthiness In Procurement Contracts With Retainage, Matthew J. Walker, Elena Katok, Jason Shachat
Trust And Trustworthiness In Procurement Contracts With Retainage, Matthew J. Walker, Elena Katok, Jason Shachat
ESI Working Papers
In complex procurement projects, it is difficult to write enforceable contracts that condition price upon quality. Supplier non-performance becomes an acute risk, particularly when there is intense competition for the contract. An established incentive mechanism used to mitigate the problem of supplier non-performance is retainage, in which the buyer sets aside a portion of the purchase price. After project completion, the buyer determines the amount of retainage that is released to the seller, considering any defects that arise. While generally a feasible contract form to implement, the practical difficulties in assessing completion introduce a moral hazard for the buyer. We …

Alternative Economic Indicators, C. James Hueng, Editor
Alternative Economic Indicators, C. James Hueng, Editor
Upjohn Press
Policymakers and business practitioners are eager to gain access to reliable information on the state of the economy for timely decision making. More so now than ever. Traditional economic indicators have been criticized for delayed reporting, out-of-date methodology, and neglecting some aspects of the economy. Recent advances in economic theory, econometrics, and information technology have fueled research in building broader, more accurate, and higher-frequency economic indicators. This volume contains contributions from a group of prominent economists who address alternative economic indicators, including indicators in the financial market, indicators for business cycles, and indicators of economic uncertainty.

Migration And Informal Insurance, Costas Meghir, Ahmed Mushfiq Mobarak, Corina Mommaerts, Melanie Morten
Discussion Papers
Do new migration opportunities for rural households change the nature and extent of informal risk sharing? We experimentally document that randomly offering poor rural households subsidies to migrate leads to a 40% improvement in risk sharing in their villages. Our model of endogenous migration and risk sharing shows that risky and temporary migration opportunities can induce an improvement in risk sharing enabling profitable migration. Accounting for improved risk sharing, the migration experiment increased welfare by 12.9%. However, permanent declines in migration costs improve outside options for households and can lead to reductions in risk sharing. The short-run experimental results for …

Facilitating Experiential Learning Experiences Through A Class Pioneer Day, Ronald Vaughan Morris
The Councilor: A National Journal of the Social Studies
Students experience a reenactment of life on the frontier created by the interaction of their teachers and community volunteers. Students in elementary social studies learn content, skills, values, and dispositions through engaging in experiential learning. The classroom environment is described through a case study of one classroom of fourth grade students with an experienced teacher with deep roots in the community. Teachers develop skills in negotiation with volunteers to accomplish tasks that support student learning. Descriptions of student and teacher preparations in addition to budgetary constraints describe how to replicate the experience. Examples and assessments are provided as well as …

The Economics Of Artificial Intelligence: A Primer For Social Studies Educators, Scott Wolla
The Councilor: A National Journal of the Social Studies
This paper provides a framework for understanding the economic effects of automation and artificial intelligence (AI). First, it reviews how physical capital interacts with labor in the context of automation and AI. Next, it discusses recent advances in AI and potential economic outcomes such as job market polarization and income inequality. It then describes the role education has played in previous economic transitions and the role it will likely play as technology advances. Finally, the paper identifies key economic concepts and teaching resources that social studies educators can integrate into their instruction to help students understand the economic effects of …

Consistent Differences In A Virtual World Model Of Ape Societies, Bart J. Wilson, Sarah F. Brosnan, Elizabeth V. Lonsdorf, Crickette M. Sanz
ESI Publications
Practical and ethical constraints limit our ability to experimentally test socioecological theory in wild primates. We took an alternate approach to model this, allowing groups of humans to interact in a virtual world in which they had to find food and interact with both ingroup and outgroup avatars to earn rewards. We altered ratios and distributions of high- and low-value foods to test the hypothesis that hominoids vary with regards to social cohesion and intergroup tolerance due to their feeding ecology. We found larger nesting clusters and decreased attacks on outgroup competitors in the Bonobo condition versus the Chimpanzee condition, …

The Impact Of The Covid-19 Pandemic On Economic Behaviours And Preferences: Experimental Evidence From Wuhan, Jason Shachat, Matthew J. Walker, Lijia Wei
ESI Working Papers
We examine how the emergence of Covid-19 in Wuhan, and the ramifications of associated events, influence pro-sociality, trust and attitudes towards risk and ambiguity. We assess these influences using an experiment consisting of financially incentivized economic tasks. We establish causality via the comparison of a baseline sample collected pre-epidemic with five sampling waves starting from the imposition of a stringent lock- down in Wuhan and completed six weeks later. We find significant long-term increases - measured as the difference between the baseline and final wave average responses - in altruism, cooperation, trust and risk tolerance. Participants who remained in Wuhan …
