Chatgpt In A Contract Drafting Class, Ben Fernandez, Kristen Hardy
Incorporating ChatGPT in the Legal Research & Writing Classroom
Our presentation will discuss the impact of ChatGPT on contract drafting pedagogy. Specifically, we will examine ChatGPT’s basis of knowledge and whether it has sufficient theoretical foundation to be used as a pedagogical tool; whether ChatGPT’s practical application supports proven methods of instructional delivery; and ChatGPT’s functionality as an assessment tool.
1. ChatGPT’s basis of knowledge and whether it has sufficient theoretical foundation to be used as a pedagogical tool
Our presentation will compare the pretraining of ChatGPT and to the typical Contract Drafting pedagogy. We will start by showing the program on a screen and asking it how it …

Incorporating ChatGPT in the Legal Research & Writing Classroom
Many news sources are raving about how much more advanced ChatGPT-4 is than 3.5. You may have heard that ChatGPT-4 outscored 90% of test takers on the Uniform Bar Exam, while ChatGPT 3.5 only outscored 10% of test takers. But what does this mean for teaching legal research and writing? In this presentation, we will compare specific examples of ChatGPT 3.5 (the free version many of us tried in the spring) and ChatGPT-4 (the paid version released in March).

Incorporating ChatGPT in the Legal Research & Writing Classroom
ChatGPT and its family of generative tools may seem new, but the process that ChatGPT imitates is as old as Egyptian papyri: The end-user still had to adapt the form text to each person’s unique situation.
Similarly, modern attorneys may use AI to adapt legal documents to their clients’ needs. But they must also learn how to spot problems in AI-generated documents — omissions, wrongful additions, inaccurate law, legalese, and poor typography. They need to instruct ChatGPT or other generative AI to continue revising until the document reflects best practices.
In short, our students as future attorneys need to know …

The legal research course is over a century old. As a law school subject, it predates many doctrinal courses, as well as the advent of clinical legal education. It is several decades older than its sister subject, legal writing. In spite of its age and obvious importance, the place of the legal research course in the law school curriculum remains contested. While some law faculties recognize the value of legal research instruction and require a standalone legal research course in the first year, the vast majority combine it with legal writing (often over the objections of legal writing instructors and …

Adjusting The Aperture: The International Law Case For Qualifying Unmanned Vessels As Warships, Malgorzata Materna
Adjusting The Aperture: The International Law Case For Qualifying Unmanned Vessels As Warships, Malgorzata Materna
International Law Studies
A number of stakeholders in the international community have advocated for the establishment of restrictions on the development and acquisition of unmanned vessels capable of contributing to naval warfare. These efforts are often based on the notion that the law did not anticipate the existence and use of unmanned vessels, and therefore the drafters of applicable legal frameworks—including the longstanding international law definition of a “warship”—did not consider them. However, this article evaluates, element by element, how unmanned vessels can, should, and already do meet the requirements for the warship designation under international law, based on a reading compatible with …

Justice House At Niagara University: An Emerging Approach To Teaching Vincentian Social Justice During And After The Covid-19 Pandemic, Kevin A. Hinkley
Journal of Vincentian Social Action
Some commentators have predicted that the disruptive effects of the COVID-19 pandemic will transform the landscape of higher education in the United States. For example, Scott Galloway, Professor of Marketing at NYU Stern School of Business, predicts that most U.S. colleges and universities will either “go out of business or become a shadow of themselves.” Professor Galloway argues that the few elite universities that survive will enter into corporate partnerships with Big Tech companies such as Google, Apple, and Meta. From this perspective, for the overwhelming majority of U.S. colleges and universities there won’t be a “post-pandemic recovery”— at least …
Accepting Educational Responsibility For Social Justice: Homeless Mothers’ And Children’S Need Of Education About Health And Nutrition, Smita Guha
Journal of Vincentian Social Action
The goal is to improve health and nutrition among new mothers and their children who were living in shelters. The mothers received workshops and booklets consisting of information, quick and healthy recipes, and learned how to prepare home-made meals with a low budget. The mothers realized nutritious foods are important for them and their children. They learned how to manage time to make nutritious food at the residence. Children regardless of their background, are our future and we need to pay attention to their needs now so that future problems could be prevented. The significance of this study is immense …

Exploring Sexual Health Education Disparities Among Latina Immigrants In Jackson Heights, N.Y., Maria Camila Lopez, Hira Shafeeq
Exploring Sexual Health Education Disparities Among Latina Immigrants In Jackson Heights, N.Y., Maria Camila Lopez, Hira Shafeeq
Journal of Vincentian Social Action
The purpose of the current study is to explore the factors that influence sexual health decisions of female Latina immigrants with low socioeconomic status in an urban area. We aimed to evaluate the possible preventive steps to lower their risk of contracting STDs. The need for this study was highlighted by research findings that suggest that health disparities among Hispanic immigrants have had a significant impact on their poor quality of life due to lack of proper access to medical care and misdiagnosis due to differences in risk factors and manifestations of the disease. Sexual health is a constant issue …
Mental Health Stigma As A Sociocultural Complex Within Panamanian Culture, Arielle Sanders
Mental Health Stigma As A Sociocultural Complex Within Panamanian Culture, Arielle Sanders
Journal of Vincentian Social Action
The purpose of this study is to examine mental health stigma within the sociocultural context shared by members of the Panamanian population. Mental health stigma is complex because it manifests itself differently according to the cultural context in which it is experienced. Culture informs individual beliefs, behaviors, and attitudes regarding how a person should live within their immediate household and within society. This social conditioning is accomplished through a variety of means, including the passing down of social norms, traditions, and customs. Ultimately, these cultural characteristics encourage socially acceptable behaviors while simultaneously discouraging undesirable behaviors in order to maintain group …
