Anaxagoras held that the objects of sense perception, both entities and qualities, were existents, and not relative to the percipient, and that they formed a continuum which observed the criteria of Parmenides' being. Birth, dissolution, growth and change of quality were explained in terms of combination and separation. the opposites were inseparable and infinite in degree, and the parts of the spectrum were one. the opposites were used to account for sense perception as well as for pleasure and pain. The purpose of this study was threefold (1) to derive the philosophy of the contemporary Indian sage who was known for the greater part of his life as Sri Ramana Maharshi; (2) to present this philosophy in English an accurately as possible; and (3) to explain it as clearly as possible in terms understandable to those not familiar with the Indian philosophical tradition.

Plato had one consistent theory of politics; the Republic, Politicus, and Laws form a unity, complementary rather than contradictory. These dialogues are all theoretical, none provides a blueprint for political action. Political theory establishes the standard by which we must judge and thus allows us to act according to an aim.

Translators have rendered doxa as "opinion", "belief", and "judgment", among other renderings. All three translations are subject to criticism. We analyze doxa as prompted by a present perception or by a past perception registered and resuscitated. There is also a doxa prompted by a Form, or complex of Forms.

This dissertation is an attempt to study Hu Shih's thought with a critical analysis of his intellectual 11fe and an evaluation of his contribution to modern Chinese mind. Hu, an outstanding Chinese scholar, is held in high esteem as a statesman, philosopher, liberal, and poet, both in his own country and abroad. He is considered one of the greatest thinkers of modern China, being instrumental in the introduction of Western scientific methods into Chinese scholar-ship. In the early twenties he initiated China's "Literary Revolution," which brought about radical reforms in Chinese writings which, up to then, formed the basis of …

The general position of Empedocles in the matter of consciousness may be described as a rigorous panpsychism. In this view there is really no such thing as inanimate nature. It is the physis or composition of our body which accounts for, if it is not identical with, our psychic character and thought. At the same time, he distinguishes the wandering daimon from the four physical elements. The realm from which he has been banished can only be that of Love. In this paper I shall attempt to show that Aristotle's logical terminology, ontologically conditioned or determined as it obviously is, contrasts with that of Plato, who, on the whole, with perhaps one exception, was very careful not to introduce unwarranted ontological perspectives into matters of logic.
