The term Baroque irony is coined by Roland Barthes, which is considered to be representative in the so-called language turn. It represents the relationship between the signifieds within language rather than that between language and the outside world, and thus it questions language itself. The"Playful Fiction" demonstrate Baroque irony in terms of semantics, syntax, morphology and parody. Baroque irony is, the paper concludes, a kind of anti-metaphysical language that does not aim to convey fixed meanings but deconstructs them. The film poster generates public desire for watching the film, but its pictorial cues often exceed its intended ideological or thematic message. The excess information contained in graphic composition, star texts, and visual citations (e.g., to current fashions and other intertexts) makes the film poster an alterative para-text in the sense that it sets in motion a dynamic of circulating multilayered meanings in a medium that resonates with other media and genres of art (e.g., drawing, painting, calligraphy, photography, design, literature, drama, opera, and music). Stanly Cavell is the precursor to apply the philosophy of ordinary language, especially the thought of later Ludwig Wittgenstein, into analyzing literary and artistic works. Through detailed analysis of Wittgenstein's discussions on the issues of "the mind of the other" and "private language"s, Cavell claims that thinking in ordinary language is a seduction of the skepticism brought about by the myth of positivism. In his reading of Shakespeare's Coriolanus, Cavell expounds "appetite" as a metaphor of political organism, demonstrating how Wittgenstein's criticism is embodied in a dramatic way. Erotic manga (エロマンガ), a genre of adult-oriented Japanese comics is subjected to censorship that may seem irrelevant or confusing to people outside of the industry. Why is erotic manga censored? How is erotic manga censored? How does censorship affect erotic manga artists? These questions are examined through use of English academic sources, Japanese academic sources and news articles, and interviews with professional erotic manga artists translated into English.

Zheng He was a eunuch of Moslem family heritage who held great authority early in the Ming Dynasty, primarily under the Yongle emperor (reign: 1402–24), as he led seven maritime expeditions, of which three reached the eastern coast of Africa. Of recent English language projects on Zheng He, Henry Tsai (1996) explores the context of the eunuchs of the Ming Dynasty in defining Zheng He’s work, and Edward Dreyer (2007) and Timothy Brook (2010) portray Zheng He within the context of the Chinese tributary system. The Japanese ‘invasion’ of Texas appears to be in full swing,” reported a correspondent from the lower Rio Grande Valley (hereinafter, the Valley) on January 7, 1921. The writer drew this conclusion from the arrival a day earlier of two Japanese families who had been met at the train station in the South Texas town of Harlingen by a mob who warned the immigrants not to settle on the land that they had already purchased in the vicinity. 王鏊（1450-1524），字濟之，南直隸蘇州府吳縣人，明代成化、弘治、正德三朝名臣及文學家。正德初，宦官劉瑾擅權，王鏊持節周旋，不得已去位，退隱林泉。其古文典雅，以制義名家，因道德文章兼而有之，為世推重。本論文以王鏊及其《震澤先生集》為研究對象，論文計有以下數端：（一）考察王鏊生平、交遊、著述，辨明其於吳中文人中之地位。（二）考察《震澤先生集》成書、刊刻之過程及版本源流，並嘗試復原該書部分殘缺之篇章。（三）自明清以降編纂之總集、別集、方志、譜牒、手稿中輯錄王鏊本集未收入之詩文，彙為一編，以備研究者取用之資。（四）考辨輯佚過程中所見署名王鏊所撰篇章之真偽。（五）根據所輯本集以外新見材料，補正今人所編王鏊年譜之訛漏。

This paper examines the prevalence of sex trafficking in Asia and considers factors that make it stand out among other regions of the world. It explains the consequences of poorly designed policy on sex trafficking, using the Chinese One Child Policy as an example. It also looks at the lack of economic opportunity in countries like Thailand and Cambodia, that can incentivize the selling of women to traffickers. Finally, this paper considers the role of globalization in making the transport of sex trafficking victims easier as well as the effect of modern communication technologies on trafficking.

This qualitative study examined the current writing instruction in 1-12 level education with the data collected in three Chinese cities. The data from the Interviews of teachers and teacher-educators at different levels and from classroom observations at upper elementary to high schools in three metropolitan cities across China provide insights into 1-12 writing instruction in contemporary China. Children of immigrant families frequently are immersed in a process called language brokering (LB) in which they interpret and translate between various linguistic and cultural parties for their families. Previous studies that investigated correlations among LB, mental health and behavioral outcomes revealed both positive and negative effects of well-being and development. The current study expanded this research by examining the relationship of LB, acculturation, hope, and resilience among 53 Korean adults. This study revealed a significant negative relationship between the frequency of LB and levels of hope. Image consciousness in literary criticism in ancient China is most prominent in the criticism of Fu (Rhapsody), which can be seen from Liu Xie's "describing objects as they appear" in "Interpreting the Genre Rhapsody" (501-2 A.D.) to Zhu Guangqian's comment that "Rhapsody is akin to pictures" in On Poetry (1943). Cyberspace and virtual reality are two topical concepts in new media studies. Among diverse discourses, Slavoj Žižek's critique of cyberspace is highly prominent. In constrast to the mainstream technological determinism, Žižek argues that the rise of cyberspace initiates an era characterized by "the retreat of big Other," and without the Other that functions as the Master to safeguard the norm for individual's actions. This article aims to elucidate Herder's main theory on sculpture that sculpture is a tactile art, and also tries to construct Herder's implicit theory on "tactility". It argues that Herder's haptic quality is much embodied, and could be divides into two categories, the emphatic and the abstract, the thickly embodied and the thinly embodied. Towards the end this article will demonstrate that the domination of the former nevertheless leads to Herder's partial blindness on the tactility of different sculptures.
