The purpose of this presentation is to bring to light the work of the students involved in this fully student- produced and original production of Pomegranates Underneath. As a 490 project produced through the Theatre Department here at Hope College, its goal was for students to fully produce, design, and create a performance, giving them full responsibility for its execution. The thesis of this 490 was creativity under pressure. The production team spent a total of five weeks writing, designing, rehearsing, tech-ing, and performing a fully-developed production. Re-Indigenization Of Song, Chant, And Dance In The Pacific, Joy Gregson

22nd Annual Celebration of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (2023)

Music plays a vital role in the functioning of culture and society, especially for non-literate cultures in the Pacific. Research shows that there were many different traditions of song, chant, and dance throughout Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia before Europeans colonized the islands. This colonization led to a shift in traditional music and life partly because of acculturation and partly because of church censorship. Now, indigenous Islanders are reclaiming parts of their lost identity through traditional language and music, calling for policy change in their contemporary forms of music, and passing on their knowledge by educating the next generation.

The senior recital, The Second Frontier, and honors thesis defense of Jasanna Tayler, Soprano, occurred on Friday, April 14th, 2023. The recital was completed in collaboration with pianist, Cindy Hunter. Selections sung for this recital which incorporated 5 different languages and spanning 4 compositional periods with contrasting pieces including operatic literature and art song. This successfully fulfilled the requirements set forth in the Western Michigan University, voice area handbook. The overarching goal for the recital was to demonstrate the culmination of knowledge gained through attending the Irving School of Music. Paige Mulick’s Graduating Presentation/Honors Thesis was created to be a piece that explored recurring dreams and built a dream on stage. Mulick developed this piece beginning with a concept, auditioning dancers, developing choreography, designing costumes, developing a lighting design, and rehearsing the piece for multiple months before it was performed on stage. As supporting research for this choreographic project, Mulick drew on her personal experiences, the experiences of her dancers, and readings from texts about the science and history of dreams. Cézanne believed in the harmony between art, emotion, and nature. This piece explores the healing powers of nature and how it reflects the human experience, beauty, ugliness, and inner peace. The Bathers endure a journey to rebirth by ways of nature, traversing through moments of desertion, cleansing, surrender, ecstasy, and freedom.

This research is titled On the Aesthetics of Resistance in Afro-German Theater: A Case Study of Olumide Popoola's Also by mail. The main purpose of this research is to show how Afro-German theater resists through creative processes on a symbolic and aesthetic level to address crucial challenges faced by the black minority in Germany. The research question driving this project is: How might a congregation’s missional identity be reshaped by attentiveness to God’s activity among their neighbors? Still Lending You The World: The Toledo Lucas County Public Library In The 21st Century, Cade Clem

This research paper focuses on how the Toledo Lucas County Public Library (TLCPL) has adapted to the 21st century, with an emphasis on the impact of digital materials and the Internet. This paper looks at these changes primarily through three lenses: official policies, services and programs, and internal culture. This paper uses quantitative data to determine if TLCPL has maintained overall growth in areas such as number of cardholders, customer counts, circulation, computer usage, and program attendance. These numbers show that, while not always maintaining growth, TLCPL has adapted quite well to the 21st century, bringing in record high numbers …

She and her husband moved to Odin to be closer to their son and remained there until she moved to St. James to live in a co-op after her husband passed away in 2000. She worked as a part-time substitute teacher after graduating Gustavus at the age of 44 with an English degree.

As the most richly illustrated and widely-owned texts of the late medieval and early modern eras, books of hours are essential to the study of art, religion, and the history of the book. Fragmented and damaged books, while perhaps less coveted, are of particular value to researchers for what they may reveal about their owners as well as the changing meanings of devotional texts and images over more than five centuries of use.
