Word-Making Potentialities Of English, Georgie A. Gurney Apr 1957

Word-Making Potentialities Of English, Georgie A. Gurney

Theses & Honors Papers

The purpose of this thesis is to examine the various methods of word-formation in the English language, to ascertain which methods are active in the post-World War II of today, and decide, if possible, which methods are coming into increasing use and which methods are temporarily out of favor.

For this study materials over a seventeen -year period 1939-1956 were consulted, and then the war words which seemed to find no permanent place in the language were discarded. Many of the war words were retained, however, if the seemed to fill a continuing need.

A Historical Study Of The Friends Doctrine Of Scripture, Dorothy E. Barratt Apr 1957

A Historical Study Of The Friends Doctrine Of Scripture, Dorothy E. Barratt

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

There a.re various theological positions taken by modern day Friends. Some Friends are evangelical, others are theologically liberal. In analyzing this situation one of the major reasons proposed to explain the tendency toward liberalism is related to the Friends' basic view of objective authority in general and a view of Scripture in particular.
