Recent research highlights the significance of design-led approaches, such as human-centred design, in fostering an innovative culture within complex public systems like public health. However, transforming systemic culture on a large scale presents a formidable challenge, constituting its own "wicked problem" that is both a fertile ground for design intervention and exceptionally difficult to tackle.

My research employs a design-led research perspective to investigate the current state of innovation culture within WA Health and to identify potential leverage points for future cultural transformation. Musical ekphrasis, as defined by musicologist Siglind Bruhn (2001), refers to musical compositions that transform, re-create, or ‘re-present’ a work of visual art or poetry. Though there exists a significant body of musical works that are based on visual art and poetry, there is a distinct lack of research and documentation on musical ekphrasis, particularly in the field of jazz and improvised music. Further, a formalised process framework for practitioners approaching ekphrastic composition has yet to be developed. The Impact Of Telehealth-Based Behavioral Lifestyle Program On Hypertension Control In African American Participants: Results From The Heals Med-Tech Randomized Controlled Trial, Sunita Dodani Dodani, Amanda Clarke, Ismail El Moudden, Tharidu Gunawardena, Navdhit Bedi

Introduction: The HEALS Med-Tech program offers a unique blend of lifestyle changes and technology to improve hypertension (HTN) management in African Americans (AAs), a group disproportionately affected by cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Methods: A randomized controlled trial compared HEALS Med-Tech against usual care for uncontrolled hypertension in AAs, focusing on diet, medication adherence, and telehealth.

Results: In a study of 61 participants, HEALS Med-Tech significantly reduced systolic blood pressure by 12.95 mm Hg (p = 0.008) and 9.19 mm Hg (p = 0.013) at 3 and 12 months, respectively, demonstrating improved hypertension control.

In the largest survey to date on Catholic school identity in athletics (49 U.S. States, n = 2273), administrators, counselors, and teachers responded to a survey about the perceived value of interscholastic athletics, school support of athletics, the contribution of coaches to school mission, Catholic identity in athletics, and the importance of the school’s athletic director and coaches to have a mission orientation. The results of the study indicate that administrators, counselors, and teachers have positive perceptions of Catholic high school athletics. Teacher perceptions differed more than administrators and counselors based on their age, gender, and religion. At least one …

Amidst increasing religious disaffiliation, often due to a perceived tension between faith and the STEM disciplines, Catholic schools provide critical opportunities for young people to recognize how these domains can be mutually elevating. The field, however, lacks guidance as to how this integration should occur in practice. This conceptual paper first provides an overarching framework for how aspects of the Catholic tradition, like Scripture and the Catholic social tradition, can shape traditional educational domains of STEM teaching and learning. Increasing faith engagement among Catholic school shareholders is a priority for school leaders. Catholic school communities can learn from this year-long project with a parish school. Sacred Heart Parish School serves approximately 300 K3-8th grade students. Like many parish schools, Sacred Heart sees a growing number of parents disengaged with the faith life of the parish and school, despite 98% of them being registered parishioners. The parent population enjoys robust and regular social activities, but report they are uncomfortable or uninterested in faith activities. As Catholic schools seek to recruit and retain more ethnoracially diverse faculties, we examine one site of potential support for Catholic school teachers of color – a racial affinity group. Using critical research methodology with qualitative data collection, we studied five teachers of color who engaged in weekly affinity group meetings, which were structured as Freirian culture circles and ran over a period of five months. The shortage of teachers who can strongly identify with the religious mission of Catholic schools is at the point of an “existential crisis,” according to a system leader in Catholic schools in Western Canada. Drawing upon exploratory interviews completed with ten chief superintendents (who oversee large school districts), this paper reveals that while school districts offer various forms of faith formation regulating the personal lives of teachers amidst divergences between Church doctrines and social trends is complicated. This article proposes a theoretical basis of Augustinian composition pedagogy by tracing the symbiotic relationship between writing and knowing found within St. Augustine’s Letters, The Trinity, Soliloquies, and Confessions and connecting them to modern writing-to-learn composition pedagogies. Given today’s trying times of generative AI, this article argues that Catholic schools revitalize the writing arts in a manner proposed by Augustine—that is, to enrich inward contemplation and outward love for others. This article examines silent reflection within the context of Augustinian Catholic schools. Tracing the rich lineage of Augustinian spirituality, it explores how cultivating interiority serves as a transformative practice that fosters spiritual growth, nourishes a deeper understanding of self and others, and compliments academic inquiry. Through a synthesis of theological, educational, and psychological perspectives, this article illuminates the multifaceted benefits of integrating silent reflection into the educational ethos of Catholic schools. Emic descriptions from students, teachers, and leaders provided insights into silent reflection programming designed to enrich the holistic development of students.

With ever-increasing demands placed upon active priests in the United States, insight into protecting their mental health may help strengthen vocational resilience for individual priests. The purpose of this study was to examine the association of individual variables, workplace characteristics, and physical activity participation with occupational distress levels among Catholic priests. A 22-question survey consisting of a demographic questionnaire, the Clergy Occupational Distress Index, and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire was employed to collect individual variables, workplace characteristics, physical activity participation, and occupational distress levels of Catholic priests from the Eastern seaboard of the United States. This dissertation utilizes the lens of Social Reproduction Theory to examine the consequences of viewing race and racism and other systems of oppression like Patriarchy as separate or additive autonomous ontologies. Intersectionality Theory posits oppressions as independent systems that “add” or “intersect” onto oppressed subjects in particular circumstances. On the other hand, responding to Intersectionality Theory, Social Reproduction Theory understands systems of oppression as mutually constitutive social relations. Social Reproduction Theory therefore allows for a more thorough understanding of the relationship between racism and other systems of oppression and their own relationship to capitalism. Psychologists and philosophers have often championed deliberative reasoning over empathy as a better approach to overcoming parochial biases and guiding altruistic equity and effectiveness. Advocates of the effective altruism (EA) philosophy even advise philanthropists to downregulate empathic responses to maximize the impact of their donations. However, recent research reveals that extraordinary altruists (XAs), such as those who donate organs to strangers, are driven primarily by empathy. This dissertation explores whether empathy necessarily impedes altruistic equity (impartial regard for others’ welfare) and effectiveness (prioritizing impact), revealing a more nuanced reality that challenges this perspective. Adolescent Black girls often experience marginalization in schools due to zero-tolerance policies, oppressive classroom curricula, and teachers who lack cultural competency. The literature on adolescent Black girls in school revealed that there are spaces within schools that can serve as homeplaces for Black girls. This study explored how adolescent Black girls experienced homeplace in an afterschool club at a predominantly White middle school in Decatur, Georgia. This research also expands bell hooks’s (2001) theory of homeplace from the home environment to school buildings. This dissertation is a contextual autoethnography of my lived experience with stigmatization, stereotypes, and institutional obstructions as a divorced single mother who previously experienced intimate partner violence and was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. The purpose of the study is to shed light on the complexity of the single motherhood experience, both internally and externally. From 2009 to 2019, the institutions I accessed for assistance as a single mother and those I interacted with for my children, my job, my health, and even within the church were unnecessarily burdensome financially, physically, and emotionally. This dissertation engages the spiritually-inspired methodology of organic inquiry to investigate how teachers practice self-healing in order to become available to students. Self-healing is a vital part of freeing up the teacher’s perceptive capacities to more deeply and fully attend to the needs of students. Self-healing work includes a variety of practices and modalities, including spiritual ones, in order to work through trauma, adversity, dis-ease, stress, and one-sidedness. Research shows that self-healing, especially in regards to mindfulness and meditation, equips teachers to confront compassion fatigue, secondary trauma, burnout, illness, and more. วิทยานิพนธ์นี้มุ่งรวบรวมคติชนและวิถีชนของผู้เลี้ยงควายในจังหวัดชลบุรี แล้วนำมาวิเคราะห์พลวัตและบทบาทด้วยมุมมองคติชนวิทยา (folkloristics) และวิถีชนศึกษา (folklife studies) ผู้วิจัยเก็บข้อมูลภาคสนามระหว่าง พ.ศ.2563-2566 ในชุมชนที่มีการจัดประเพณีวิ่งควายในจังหวัดชลบุรี 24 แห่ง ได้แก่ อำเภอเมืองชลบุรี บ้านบึง บ่อทอง หนองใหญ่ พานทอง พนัสนิคม เกาะจันทร์ ศรีราชา และบางละมุง ในจังหวัดระยอง 2 แห่ง และจังหวัดฉะเชิงเทรา 1 แห่งผลการศึกษาพบว่า เดิมผู้เลี้ยงควายในจังหวัดชลบุรีเลี้ยงควายเป็นแรงงานในการเกษตร เมื่อวิถีชีวิตเปลี่ยนไป ผู้เลี้ยงควายสามารถปรับใช้คติชนและวิถีชนเพื่อตอบสนองวัตถุประสงค์ในการเลี้ยงควายที่มีหลากหลายมากขึ้น ทั้งเพื่อขาย เพื่อประกวดควายงาม เพื่อวิ่งแข่งขัน และเพื่อร่วมประเพณี ผู้เลี้ยงปรับใช้ความรู้ความเชื่อเพื่อคัดเลือกควายที่ดี มีเคล็ดลับ การเลือกอาหาร การปรับใช้คติชนวัตถุ ทำให้ปัจจุบันควายมีรูปร่างลักษณะต่างกันมาก ควายงามมีลักษณะที่ดีตามเกณฑ์ของกรมปศุสัตว์ ทำให้ควายทั่วประเทศมีลักษณะคล้ายกัน ส่วนควายวิ่งมีลักษณะสูง ขายาวเรียวรัด ปราดเปรียวเพื่อให้วิ่งแข่งได้ จึงสามารถคงลักษณะเฉพาะของควายในชลบุรีไว้ได้จังหวัดชลบุรีมีการจัดประเพณีวิ่งควายในหลายชุมชน ต่อเนื่องตลอดทั้งปี มีทั้งประเพณีวิ่งควายในช่วงเทศกาลออกพรรษาที่จัดในชุมชนตลาดต่าง ๆ สัมพันธ์กับความเชื่อเกี่ยวกับประเพณีวิ่งควาย และประเพณีวิ่งควายนอกช่วงเทศกาลออกพรรษาที่จัดในพื้นที่ว่างเพื่อคัดเลือกควายและเพื่อความสนุกสนานเป็นสำคัญ ทั้งยังมีรูปแบบการใช้ควายแบบ “วิ่งควายบก” ที่มีคนนั่งบนตัวควาย และ “วิ่งควายคราดนา” ที่คนใช้ควายคู่เทียมคราดวิ่งแข่งในพื้นที่มีน้ำขังเลียนแบบการใช้ควายคราดนาเพื่อเตรียมทำนาข้าวด้วย ผู้เลี้ยงจึงต้องมีความรู้ในการฝึกฝนและดูแลควายอย่างดีต่อเนื่องตลอดทั้งปี จึงจะมีควายที่ดีสำหรับนำไปร่วมประเพณีวิ่งควายประเพณีวิ่งควายมีบทบาทหน้าที่สร้างความสนุกสนานเพลิดเพลิน ให้การศึกษาและรักษามาตรฐานพฤติกรรมของสังคม สร้างปฏิสัมพันธ์ของกลุ่มชนและเป็นเครื่องมือในการจัดการความสัมพันธ์เชิงอำนาจ สร้างและนำเสนออัตลักษณ์ทั้งอัตลักษณ์ของผู้เลี้ยงควาย ชุมชน และจังหวัด สร้างความทรงจำร่วมของกลุ่มชน และเป็นทุนทางวัฒนธรรมในบริบทเศรษฐกิจสร้างสรรค์ ทั้งนี้บทบาทหน้าที่ดังกล่าวล้วนมีพลวัตไปตามสภาพเศรษฐกิจ สังคม โลกาภิวัตน์ โดยเฉพาะบทบาทอย่างยิ่งการเป็นทุนวัฒนธรรมเป็นบทบาทใหม่จากนโยบายส่งเสริมการใช้ทุนวัฒนธรรมเพื่อการท่องเที่ยวคติชนและวิถีชนของผู้เลี้ยงควายในจังหวัดชลบุรีมีพลวัตของเรื่องเล่าเกี่ยวกับประเพณีวิ่งควาย พลวัตของความเชื่อในการคัดเลือกควาย พลวัตของคติชนประเภทวัตถุที่ใช้ในวิถีการเลี้ยงควาย และพลวัตของประเพณีพิธีกรรม พลวัตของดังกล่าวสัมพันธ์กับปัจจัยด้านสภาพเศรษฐกิจและสังคม สภาพแวดล้อมและการใช้พื้นที่ ความสัมพันธ์ของผู้คนและการเมืองท้องถิ่น ความเชื่อและทัศนะที่มีต่อควาย รวมถึงกระแสการส่งเสริมการท่องเที่ยวและโลกาภิวัตน์การใช้มุมมองการศึกษาทั้งคติชนวิทยาและวิถีชนศึกษาในวิทยานิพนธ์นี้จึงช่วยขยายขอบเขตการศึกษาความรู้ของผู้เลี้ยงควายให้กว้างและลึกมากขึ้น ทั้งยังเห็นมิติอื่น ๆ ในชีวิตของผู้เลี้ยงควายเพิ่มขึ้น ซึ่งจะเป็นแนวทางในการศึกษาคติชนเกี่ยวกับสัตว์ (animal lore) อื่น ๆ รวมถึงความรู้ในวิถีชีวิตของคนกลุ่มอื่น ๆ ต่อไป

วิทยานิพนธ์นี้มุ่งศึกษารวบรวมและจัดอนุกรมวิธานพื้นบ้านของ “ว่านไสยเวช” ในสังคมอีสานร่วมสมัยและวิเคราะห์การสืบทอดและบทบาทของความเชื่อและพิธีกรรมเกี่ยวกับ “ว่านไสยเวช” ดังกล่าว เก็บข้อมูลระหว่างปี 2564-2567 ด้วยวิธีการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกจากหมอว่านและนักสะสมว่านในอีสาน และการสังเกตอย่างมีส่วนร่วมพิธีกรรมเกี่ยวกับว่าน รวม 8 จังหวัด ประกอบด้วย หนองคาย นครพนม อุดรธานี ขอนแก่น สกลนคร สุรินทร์ ร้อยเอ็ด และอุบลราชธานี ใช้แนวคิดเรื่องการจัดอนุกรมวิธานพื้นบ้าน แนวคิดเรื่องนิเวศวิทยากับความเชื่อพื้นบ้าน แนวคิดเรื่องคติชนในวิถีสุขภาพพื้นบ้าน และแนวคิดเรื่องบทบาทหน้าที่ของคติชนในสังคม เป็นกรอบแนวคิดในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล ผลการศึกษาพบว่า หมอว่านและนักสะสมว่านในอีสานสืบทอดความรู้เรื่องว่านในลักษณะมุขปาฐะเป็นหลักมีวิธีการจัดจำแนกประเภทของว่านอย่างเป็นระบบ ประกอบด้วย 8 ประเภทหลักที่สายการสืบทอดส่วนใหญ่รับรู้ตรงกัน ได้แก่ 1) แบ่งตามชื่อเรียกตามลักษณะทางกายภาพของว่าน 2) แบ่งตามชื่อเรียก ซึ่งนำมาจากลักษณะทางความเชื่อ 3) แบ่งตามเพศสมมติของว่าน 4) แบ่งตามตระกูลของว่าน5) แบ่งตามสรรพคุณของว่าน 6) แบ่งตามหน้าที่และสัมพันธภาพของว่าน 7) แบ่งตามประสาทสัมผัสของผู้ใช้ว่าน และ 8) แบ่งตามลักษณะของสิ่งที่ไม่ใช่พืช ทั้งนี้ พบว่าการสืบทอดในบางสายมีการจัดจำแนกประเภทว่านชุดย่อย ได้แก่ 1) ว่านพุทธคุณ 2) ว่านถอน 3) ว่านไสย 4) ว่านพราย 5) ว่านแสง 6) ว่านพิษ และ 7) ว่านผี ซึ่งเกณฑ์ในการจัดประเภทนี้มีฐานคิดมาจากวัฒนธรรมของอีสานและประสบการณ์ในการใช้ว่าน ทำให้เห็นถึงลำดับศักดิ์และชั้นของว่านแต่ละประเภทที่มีความหมายแตกต่างกัน การจัดจำแนกประเภทว่านของหมอว่านและนักสะสมว่านในอีสานยังมีความสัมพันธ์กับการสืบทอดความรู้เรื่องว่าน เนื่องจากศิษย์จะได้รับการถ่ายทอดความรู้เรื่องการจัดประเภทและการใช้งานว่านจากครูผ่านการร่วมพิธีกรรมต่าง ๆ จำแนกพิธีกรรมเกี่ยวกับว่านเป็น 3 กลุ่มหลัก ได้แก่ 1) กลุ่มพิธีกรรมที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการหาว่านและสร้างความศักดิ์สิทธิ์แก่ว่าน 2) กลุ่มพิธีกรรมที่ใช้ว่านในการรักษาโรคและความเจ็บป่วย และ 3) กลุ่มพิธีกรรมที่นำว่านมาทำเป็นวัตถุมงคลการจัดจำแนกประเภทของว่านต่าง ๆ ช่วยให้หมอว่านและนักสะสมว่านใช้ว่านหลัก ว่านรอง ว่านเสริม และว่านแก้ได้อย่างตรงตามสรรพคุณ ส่งผลให้เกิดประสิทธิภาพในการใช้ว่านได้ดียิ่งขึ้นบทบาทของคติความเชื่อและพิธีกรรมเกี่ยวกับ “ว่านไสยเวช” มีหลายประการ ได้แก่ 1) บทบาทในการรักษาโรค บำบัดความเจ็บป่วยทางจิตวิญญาณ และเป็นที่พึ่งทางใจ 2) บทบาทในการสืบทอดความรู้เรื่องพืชซึ่งสัมพันธ์กับการสืบทอดระบบความเชื่อทางศาสนา3) บทบาทในการกำหนดวิถีปฏิบัติของกลุ่มผู้ใช้ว่านซึ่งสัมพันธ์กับบรรทัดฐานทางสังคม 4) …

วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้เป็นการศึกษาแนวทางการแปลบทพากย์วิดีโอเกม Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas สำหรับการนำไปพากย์ในภาษาไทย โดยสังเคราะห์แนวทางการแปลและพากย์ตัวบทคัดสรร จากทฤษฎี แนวคิด และหลักการที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการแปลบทพากย์ การแปลเกม และการแปลตัวบทที่มีปัญหาด้านความขัดแย้งเชิงอุดมการณ์ของนักแปล บนสมมติฐานที่ว่าการประยุกต์ใช้ทฤษฎีดังกล่าวจะสามารถนำมาสังเคราะห์เป็นกลวิธีการแก้ปัญหาการแปลบทพากย์ของวิดีโอเกม Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas โดยเฉพาะในส่วนของปัญหาด้านความขัดแย้งเชิงอุดมการณ์ของนักแปลได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ และสามารถนำบทแปลมาพากย์เป็นฉบับภาษาไทยได้อย่างเป็นธรรมชาติในวัฒนธรรมปลายทาง ผลการวิจัยพบว่า ทฤษฎี แนวคิด และหลักการที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการแปลบทพากย์เกมที่ที่มีปัญหาด้านความขัดแย้งเชิงอุดมการณ์ของนักแปลดังกล่าวข้างต้น สามารถนำมาสังเคราะห์เป็นกลวิธีในการแก้ไขปัญหาในการแปลบทพากย์เกม Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas และนำมาใช้พากย์ได้โดยถ่ายทอดความหมายได้ใกล้เคียงกับตัวบทต้นฉบับมากที่สุด
