تُظهر الهويّة الوطنيّة اللبنانيّة تعقيدًا متعدّد الأوجه بسبب التأثيرات التاريخيّة والدينيّة. فقد أثّر الانتداب الفرنسي بانحيازه للمسيحيّين وإنشاء «لبنان الكبير»، بما تناقض مع تطلّعات المسلمين العربيّة. أدّى الميثاق الوطني إلى حلّ مؤقّت اعترف بالتوازن الطائفي، لكنّ الوحدة تفكّكت في حرب أهليّة مدمّرة. ورغم اتّفاق الطائف الذي اعترف بعروبة لبنان، يبقى النضال من أجل هويّة وطنيّة موحّدة مستمرًّا بسبب إرث النظام الطائفي والتأثيرات الإقليميّة، ممّا يشكّل تحدّيًا دائمًا لفكرة الوحدة الوطنيّة.‏

ينطلق البحث من لاهوت الجسد كما طوّره قداسة البابا يوحنّا بولس الثاني، ولا سيّما من خلال تعاليمه في لقاءات الأربعاء (1979-1984)، حيث يؤكّد على التمايز والمساواة بين الرجل والمرأة ضمن وحدة الطبيعة البشريّة. فقد خلق الله الرجل والمرأة متمايزين ومتساويين في الكرامة، ودعاهما إلى الاتّحاد كجسد واحد بحسب قصد الله الخالق. يفسّر لاهوت الجسد هذا الاتّحاد بوصفه أساس الزواج والعائلة، ويبرز تمايز الإنسان عن الخليقة وتكريمه بكرامة فريدة. وقد أعطى المسيح المعنى النهائيّ للجسدانيّة من خلال عطاء الذات في الزواج والخدمة بالمحبّة، مساهمًا في تكوين حضارة العائلة والأخوّة. كما أنّ الجسد البشريّ مدعوّ إلى القيامة الأخيرة.‏

يتناول المقال العلاقة التكاملية بين الدين والمال، مؤكدًا عدم التعارض بينهما، بل الحاجة الماسّة إلى أغنياء يستخدمون أموالهم في خدمة الفقراء ويعتبرون البشر إخوة. للكنيسة الحق في التملّك واستخدام الأموال لتحقيق أهدافها الروحية والخيرية، وإعالة خدّامها. وعلى الرغم من تميّز النصوص الكنسيّة، كالمجمع البطريركي الماروني وقوانين الكنائس الشرقيّة، في تنظيم أموال الكنيسة والأوقاف، يأسف الكاتب للنقص في التطبيق العملي. واليوم أكثر من أيّ وقت مضى، تُدعى الكنيسة إلى المساهمة في تحرير الإنسان، والمحافظة على كرامته، ونشر السلام، وتعزيز العدالة الاجتماعية والتنمية.‏

منذ أن نشأت الكنيسة كمؤسّسة مستقلّة عن السلطة السياسيّة، وهي في الوقت نفسه تعلن رسالة تتعلّق بالإنسان والمجتمع البشري، أصبحت علاقتها بالدولة إشكاليّة لا مفرّ منها. فلا يمكن للسلطة السياسيّة أن تتجاهل الكنيسة، كما لا يمكن للكنيسة أن تتّخذ موقف اللامبالاة تجاه السلطة السياسيّة. غير أنّ رسم حدود نشاط كلٍّ من المؤسّستين ليس بالأمر اليسير، ولا سيّما عندما يتعلّق الأمر بتحديد غاية السلطة السياسيّة نفسها. لكن هذه العلاقة المتقلّبة، بسبب الظروف المتغيّرة للحياة الإنسانيّة، يمكن أن تكون حيويّة للمجتمع. ويتوسّع الكاتب في هذه الإشكاليّات في ضوء خبرة الكنيسة الكاثوليكيّة داخل المجتمع الواحد.‏

Like other of his Great Tales, the stories of Húrin and Túrin, Tolkien’s story of Lúthien grew over time in both verse and prose, moving through various versions from a comic fairy tale with a child narrator reminiscent of Marie de France to a romance in rhyming couplets imitative of Chretien de Troyes. Christopher Tolkien gives an account of his father’s development of the story of Lúthien in Beren and Lúthien, the third and final volume in his Great Tales series.

Greeley asserts that Catholics see metaphors for the transcendent in matter, value community within a well-ordered hierarchy, and sanctify suffering—qualities that abound in the writings of Wilde and Tolkien. Applying C.S. Lewis' metaphor of authors being cathedral-builders to understand intertextual writing (combining influences with innovation) provides a fascinating lens to understand T.H. White's Arthurian work. Exploring how White's The Once and Future King influenced J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series (particularly her characters Vernon and Dudley Dursley) provides a particularly interesting example of how fantasy authors use intertextuality to create original works.

At first sight, That Hideous Strength (1945) by C.S. Lewis and the MaddAddam trilogy (2003, 2009, 2013) by Margaret Atwood seem to have little in common. Yet, despite differences of time and place, and approach of the authors, there are startling and generative similarities between the two communities they depict, the Company at St. Anne’s and the God’s Gardeners. In considering the groups' opposition to reductionist technocracy and a shared set of principles, Atwood's MaddAddam trilogy seems to be carrying on the heart of Lewis' dystopic That Hideous Strength as effective ecological and ethical speculative fiction.

Tolkien is not usually considered a playwright, even though his verse drama, “The Homecoming of Beorhtnoth Beorhthelm’s Son,” is a unique example of the genre. It is Tolkien’s only published play and historical fiction, as well as a unique poetic - dramatic genre, a modern alliterative verse play, which Tolkien developed over many years in numerous drafts, now held at the Bodleian Library in Oxford and the Brotherton Library in Leeds. This article explores the depiction of time in the works of C. S. Lewis, offering an analysis rooted in a reading of select passages that highlight issues of temporality in Lewis’ works. The select passages are from the following books: Mere Christianity; The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe; The Magician’s Nephew; and The Last Battle. The theoretical framework for this article is derived mainly from Aristotle’s perennial contribution to rhetoric, adopting his definition of rhetoric as: “The faculty of discovering, in the particular case, the available means of persuasion.” Moreover, this paper engages with published readership on Lewis’ …

Argues that Elmar, Aerin, and Aredhel’s narratives convey experiences of female enslavement. Understanding these characters as enslaved reveals the violent nature of their experiences, necessitating an interpretation of their relationships with their husbands/enslavers as sexual assault. Their narratives reveal patterns within the legendarium connecting beauty and violence. However, these three stories also demonstrate Tolkien’s interest in portraying this kind of story and its value to the legendarium. These narratives offer a unique female perspective on loss and lived experience within the legendarium.

Explores how various tales of the earlier legendarium (History of Middle-earth, vol. 1-5) influence The Lord of the Rings’s development. The connection stretches beyond the obvious adoption of previously composed myths to self-borrowing of settings and characters. Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature

Few Inklings scholars have explored William Lindsay Gresham’s life outside of the fact that he was married to Joy Davidman. His poem “The Friar of Oxford,” published here for the first time, shows a surprising level of engagement with C.S. Lewis’s ideas, combining war imagery with references to the Ransom Cycle and a “mushroom cloud” reference that may show he explored one of Lewis’s literary influences. The poem’s contents add to existing Gresham-Inklings scholarship, and show Gresham accomplishing the same goals that the Inklings and their associates like Dorothy L. Sayers accomplished in their “escapist” or mythopoeic works.
