“義法”原委考 : 一個古文概念工具的“時間層”, Yin Lu

“義法”是清代學者方苞提出的一個古文概念，詞源見於先秦子書、《史記》以及漢代以降有關《春秋》書法、義例的討論，其意義源則是宋元明以來的文章法度之學。清初方苞激活“義法”一詞，賦予其表微、紀事、辨體等多層含義，使之區别於文法“意義群”中的其他親緣詞，實可謂“有爲而作”。康熙末《南山集》案的刺激，使方苞致力於索解司馬遷的盛世心曲，通過《史記》義法的闡釋，試探政治高壓下的隱微表達機制；同時代史學單向度的徵實風尚，更激發方苞在紀事義法中凸顯主觀真實。在方苞身後，桐城後學試圖以“聲氣”超越“義法”，將“義法”理解爲桐城古文結構中一個較粗的環節。古文圈外對於“義法”的理解則更趨寬泛。“義法”概念不斷衍變，多個“時間層”重疊層累，既有在無意識間沿襲前代文法之學的“古層”，又有在政、學具體語境中强烈波動的“表層”。

Yifa (substantive technique) is a literary critical concept proposed by the Qing scholar Fang Bao (1668 - 1749). The origins of this term can be traced back to pre-Qin philosophical texts, the Shiji (Historical Records), and Han dynasty discussions of the Chunqiu (Spring and Autumn Annals); the significance of the term, however, draws on and reacts against the standards of literary composition characteristic of the Song, Yuan, and Ming dynasties. 文德 : 中國文論尚德精神的理論基石, Xinglu Zhou

“文德”是中國文論之作家論的基點，貫穿數千年中國文論史，形成了尚德的中國文學傳统。“文人”在社會治理與文明傳承中擔任著重要的任務，因此對“文人”的道德品質有嚴格的要求，而文藝創作天然地崇尚超越規矩、擺脱束縛的精神自由，二者之間構成内在的衛突，於是衍生出“文人無行”的命題。傳统文學批評從正面强調“文德”，德爲主，文爲輔，主次鮮明。面對不同的社會文化現狀，基於不同的思想立場，對“文德”的理解不盡相同。或提倡士先器識而後文藝，或强調士人“不俗”的品格，或主張“性情之正”，以理正情，對情感的抒泄加以疏導和匡正。至明清時期標尚“志士”之詩文，心憂天下，關懷民瘼，個人情懷緊緊聯繫著社會苦難和時代劇變，傳统的“文德”論的内涵因時因地而發展變化，當前中國文論應該有新時代的“文德”論。

Literary Virtue is the basic point of the writer’s theory in Chinese literary theory. It runs through the history of Chinese literary theory for thousands of years and forms a Chinese literary tradition that advocates virtue. Literati played an important role in social governance and civilization inheritance. Therefore, there are particularly strict requirements for the moral quality of literati. Akko III: The Late Periods comprises two parts (IAA Reports 72 and 73), the third and fourth volumes in a series publishing the results of four excavations that took place within and just outside of the Old City of ‘Akko between 1991 and 1998. These two volumes present the archaeological finds from the Early Islamic to Ottoman periods, concentrating on the architecture and small finds from the Crusader period.

This chapter concerns the development of a First World War Digital Humanities project at a small US liberal arts college. The project, based on a manuscript collection of documents, photographs, artefacts, and nearly 300 letters (primarily written between 1915 and 1919), was designed from the beginning to be truly collaborative, featuring the creative and scholarly work of undergraduate students, a faculty member, a librarian, and an archivist to tell a unique story from the Western Front. This project focuses on challenging what compositions are considered valuable as art. The primary focus is on the relationship between light and shadow and how it contributes to the revelation of finding beauty in the mundane. This project involves studying old masters like Caravaggio and Edward Hopper while employing their techniques and methods in my artworks. Through a series of oil paintings, I depicted everyday objects and scenes to demonstrate how classical techniques, paired with contemporary subjects, help bridge historical and artistic practices with modern art.

This project is a qualitative study in which I seek to understand how my new model of writing assessment, The Flexible Pathways Model, or FPM, functions when piloted in three First-Year Writing classrooms at a border and Hispanic-Serving Institution. This research builds on the work of composition scholars Peter Elbow and Pat Belanoff, Elbow and Jane Danielewicz, Asao B. Inoue, Ellen Carillo, and Edward White as well as education scholar Benjamin Bloom. Burgeoning global trade and colonial policies promoted transformations in land use and agriculture throughout tropical regions in the 19th and 20th centuries, but the local and regional ecological consequences of landscape changes are still being identified and analysed. The Philippine Archipelago, which experienced successive colonial regimes across more than 7100 islands, exemplifies the multiplicity of ecological outcomes produced by these transformations. To better characterise diverse landscape change, we use colonial censuses and datasets to assess land use, production and agricultural yields in the Philippines during the late Spanish and early U.S. colonial periods (ca. 1870–1925). This essay begins from the premise that acts of thinking and writing are shaped immanently by corporeal need. Accordingly, my aim is to sketch a vision of composition pedagogy that acknowledges the moves and modulations of the thinking body. The route I take to get there explores four works of critical prose that mobilize form and content toward a radical re-orientation of body-in-space and body-in-writing. These texts—by Eleni Stecopoulos, Robert Kocik, William James, and Eli Clare—are to varying degrees experimental, demonstrating a manner of textual difficulty that signals the visceral difficulty implied in any act of writing. In this article, we argue for an expanded conception of language assess-ment based on the principles of James Moffett and centered on outfitting teachers with useful information with which to guide their practice and optimize student learning. Importantly, we begin the article by demonstrating that Moffett’s interest in assessing language growth occurs much earlier than previously thought. An era of literary and artistic experimentation known as Modernism began in the 1920s allowing authors to reinterpret history and society. American Modernist authors William Faulkner and Jean Toomer used a variety of innovative literary techniques to depict post-Civil War Reconstruction (1864-1877) and its aftermath. Faulkner’s Absalom, Absalom! and Toomer’s Cane examine themes of race, violence, and the Lost Cause by manipulating time and perspective, shifting genres, and introducing new sentence structures. This thesis aimed to teach young dancers about past dance pioneers and build confidence in young women when creating dances. This thesis explored how the engagement level of dance spectators influenced the lasting impressions they retain from a performance and whether these impressions can expand and sustain audience interest in dance. The purpose of the study was to identify the most engaging elements of an aerial dance concert. The study emphasized the significance of creating choreography that evokes emotional responses to advocate for dance education, community engagement, and the preservation of the art form. By examining a site-specific aerial dance concert, this research identified the elements that captivated audiences, particularly the contrast between aerial and ground-based performances.
