Extensive listening is crucial for language development, especially when students’ exposure to the target language is not adequate. This study presents how VOA Learning English website is integrated into an English listening classroom as a listening activity outside the class. Data were collected through questionnaires and learners' extensive listening journal weekly entries, seeking to examine students’ learning experiences and views on experiencing the website. Thirty undergraduate students participated in this study for 14 weeks. Its products such as T-shirts or bags typically display various designs with Surabaya-related themes. This research used the qualitative research method by gathering and analyzing the designs displayed on various Cak Cuk products. In response to this, a workshop entitled “English for Tour Guides” was conducted for high school students on Pramuka Island, and in-house materials were developed. Oral traditions are an important part of the culture of most Indonesian communities. Mentawai, an ethnic group residing in Mentawai Islands of Indonesia, has various genres of oral tradition. Traditional knowledge and local wisdom pertaining to natural disasters are also part of their oral tradition. Mentawai Islands are located along active tectonic plates, where earthquakes commonly occur at various magnitudes. Records show that great earthquakes and tsunamis hit Mentawai Islands several times in 1797, 1833, 2007, and 2010. Surprisingly, earthquakes occurring some hundred years ago do not seem to appear in Mentawai oral tradition. This is slightly different from communities …

The Socialist Education Movement, also known as the Four Cleanups Campaign, was a nation-wide political movement that took place between 1963 and 1966 in China. The initial aim of the movement was to deal with the grassroots cadres’ corruption problems. However, the authority later conducted a class reconsideration work, and all the peasants became the targets of the movement. The slogans propagated by Chinese leader Hu Jintao—namely “rise in peace”, “a harmonious socialist society”, and “a harmonious world”—reflects the country’s age-old Confucian values. Considering the fact that the PRC only recognizes communism as the state ideology and that Confucianism was subjected to harsh criticism during the Cultural Revolution era (1966–1976), the presence of Confucian values in PRC’s political propaganda becomes an interesting research topic. The concept of postmemory, introduced by Hirsch (2012), focuses on the processes through which memories—particularly traumatic memories— of a historical tragedy, “Holocaus”, which is transmitted across generations. Drawing on the elements supporting inter-individual memory transmission, this paper examines the dynamics of human memory within Novel Prize-winning French-Mauritian author J. M. G. Le Clézio's novella entitled “Tempête”. Teen lit serves a central position in the conception of masculinity in teenagers due to its closeness to them as readers. For teenagers, physical masculinity is relatively highlighted compared to masculinity in other dimensions. Physical masculinity is expressed through classic names, which is related to strength, and is signified by ‘provincial’ names. Physical masculinity is also conveyed through the expressions of the eyes and figures. Besides, a specific cultural icon typically related to handsomeness is also used to construct physical masculinity in teen lit.

This study aims to examine whether the use of metacognitive self-assessment helps English as a foreign language (EFL) students to improve their metacognition. The study implemented an intervention technique on 540 students in Grades Four to Nine in a private school in Beirut. Students had to evaluate their performance on English tests in relation to their study skills and preparation. The four EFL teachers included students' study skills self-evaluation statements at the end of the English tests in the first term of 2019-2020 and responded to five questions to evaluate the intervention.
