A Historical Analysis Of The Causes Of The French And Indian War, Jake Althouse
A Historical Analysis Of The Causes Of The French And Indian War, Jake Althouse
Honors Program: Senior Projects (Public)
The current study attempted to answer the following research question: what were the causes of the French and Indian War between Great Britain and France in 1754? To do so, the current study researched secondary sources from a historical perspective, political theories regarding the causes of war, and primary sources from individuals involved in the build-up to conflict. Previous research by historians and political scientists have mainly attributed the causes of the French and Indian War to a security dilemma and the spiral theory of war. The current study does not support this assertion. Instead, the current study asserts that …

Our Story, Our Homeland, Our Legacy: Settlement Patterns Of The Geechee At Sapelo Island Georgia, From 1860 To 1950, Colette D. Witcher
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The Gullah Geechee are descendants of enslaved Africans who worked on the island coastal plantations of Georgia, North and South Carolina, and Northern Florida. The Gullah Geechee are known for having retained African cultural connections and practices in the United States through intergenerational knowledge transmission. On Sapelo Island, Georgia, during their 250 years on the island a least 15 historic communities have been acknowledged as representative of their distinct presence on the island. Hog Hammock which was established in 1878, is the last intact Gullah Geechee owned community, due to forced abandonment of the other communities during the early 1950s. …

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

While Hispanic literature of immigrants has evolved over time in the United States, many of its general themes remain the same. Focusing on authors from the 19th to 21st centuries, this thesis covers 18 works ranging from novels, to essays, to poetry to short stories, all by various Hispanic authors, most of them immigrants or …

Journal of the General Union of Arab Archaeologists

Tell Abu Yasin is one of the most important sites in Sharkia governorate and dates back to Ptolemaic age. Many tests and analyses were performed to diagnose damage manifestations of some pottery pieces. The research has proven that the clay used in that pottery is Nile Clay, while tempers are sand, grog, and limestone powder. The used shaping technology was potter wheel, surface treatment is slip layer, and the burning atmosphere inside the kiln was reduced for the first pot and oxidized to the second and third piece. Pottery objects suffer from physiochemical damage by soil sediments, in addition …

Deisis In The Paintings Of Christian Egypt A Depiction Of The Intercessory Supplication, Manal Abdelhamid
Deisis In The Paintings Of Christian Egypt A Depiction Of The Intercessory Supplication, Manal Abdelhamid
Journal of the General Union of Arab Archaeologists
(En) The concept of intercession is deeply embedded in Eastern Orthodoxy through the reciting of the Intercession Prayer, addressing the Christ, as the main intercessor, and other holy figures, including the Virgin, the saints, the martyrs and even angels, to intercede on behalf of the faithful and deliver their prayers to God. Deisis is one of the intercession themes that is widely illustrated in murals and icons of Christian Egypt. It is represented in different compositions, but mainly consists of three main figures: the Christ Pantocrator flanked by the two main intercessors, the Virgin Mary and John the Baptist. Many …

The Seven Spirits (Axw-Sfxw) In The Ancient Egyptian Religion, Radwan Abdel-Rady Sayed Ahmed
Journal of the General Union of Arab Archaeologists
(En)
This paper tackles an important topic in ancient Egyptian religion; the «Seven Spirits». This term is repeatedly mentioned in multiple written forms in religious texts from the Middle Kingdom, the New Kingdom, and the Saite and Late Periods. It seems that these seven deities as creatures or jinn were very important in the doctrine of the dead and for their fate in the other world, as evidenced by their frequent mention in religious texts. These deities are named in association with a number of major deities, such as Ra, Osiris, Anubis, Thoth and the four sons of Horus, and …

The Thorns Of Trauma: Torture, Aftermath, And Healing In Contemporary Fairy-Tale Literature, Jeana Jorgensen
The Thorns Of Trauma: Torture, Aftermath, And Healing In Contemporary Fairy-Tale Literature, Jeana Jorgensen
Scholarship and Professional Work - LAS
While classical fairy tales do not portray much depth of suffering, many contemporary fairy-tale retellings explore trauma and its aftermath in great detail. This article analyzes depictions of trauma in fairy tales, utilizing as a primary case study the “Beauty and the Beast” retelling A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas, arguing that this text provides a scientifically accurate representation of trauma and its aftermath, thereby articulating the real in fairy tales. Further, this article classifies that work as not simply a “dark” fairy tale (a contentious term that invites rethinking) but rather as fairy-tale torture porn, …
For|Rest, Jes Klass
For|Rest, Jes Klass
College of Computing and Digital Media Dissertations
In for/rest, players navigate a world built around an interpretation of the liminal space of grief. Glitching, blinking roots are all around an otherwise grey, empty space and as players destroy these roots they gradually resaturate the landscape. Each time a root is destroyed, the player will watch it disintegrate in front of them while some form of animal or plant spawns in the root’s stead. On rare occasions, instead of a plant or animal, a human will phase into the world as a root disintegrates. This human, Charlie, roams around the forest and offers the player a chance to …
