The State of Alaska faces persistent budget challenges resulting from declining oil prices and production. Because current major revenue sources—petroleum and the Permanent Fund (POMV)—are not explicitly tied to internal economic activity, there is an "Alaska disconnect" between state growth and public revenue. ISER researchers evaluated 11 primary fiscal options + three variations. These included changes to state spending, broad-based taxes, and business taxes. Nine of these options were selected to match those ISER evaluated in 2016. In addition, ISER modelled two new options related to business taxes. ISER also evaluated three variations of these options. Veterans experience disproportionately high rates of type 2 diabetes mellitus (20.5% vs 11.6% nationally), driven by military-related factors such as PTSD, deployment-related obesity, and service-connected disabilities. At a large urban primary care clinic, 28% (40/141) of veterans with type 2 diabetes mellitus had persistently elevated HbA1c levels of ≥8%, indicating a high risk for diabetes-related complications. This quality improvement project aimed to reduce the proportion of veterans with HbA1c of ≥8% by implementing tailored telemedicine-based medication education, leveraging underutilized virtual care infrastructure to address access barriers and improve diabetes self-management. Sepsis remains a leading cause of mortality, morbidity, and healthcare expenditure in the United States, with national SEP-1 compliance rates persistently near 60%. This quality improvement project evaluated whether optimizing sepsis order sets within a large, urban, Magnet-designated hospital improved adherence to the CMS SEP-1 quality measure and associated patient outcomes. Chronic insomnia is a prevalent condition associated with significant physical, psychological, and functional impairment. Although Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is recommended as first-line treatment, access remains limited, resulting in continued reliance on pharmacologic therapies. This DNP project evaluated the effectiveness of a nurse practitioner (NP)-facilitated CBT-I program, supported by the CBT-I Coach, in improving sleep outcomes and reducing reliance on sleep medications among adults with chronic insomnia in an outpatient setting. Of those deaths resulting from traumatic injury, 40% result from hemorrhage and uncontrolled blood loss. Jazz improvisation is a historically rich and culturally relevant art form that is also an underutilized pedagogy in higher education music performance programs (HEMPPs). Previous research has extensively unmasked the relationship of creative, social, and cognitive benefits of improvisational learning. This narrative photovoice study explored how elementary parents understand their role in supporting mathematics at home. The research asked three foundational questions: How do parents of elementary students describe their personal experiences with learning mathematics? How do parents of elementary students describe their experiences with supporting mathematics at home with their children? What factors influence parents' experiences with mathematics? Fourteen parents, eight with experience as educators and six without, participated by sharing photographs in response to five prompts and discussing what those images meant to them. However, when discussing the Latina identity, monolithic assumptions remain at the forefront. When faced with systems of oppression, Latinas experience intersectional struggles that ultimately render their college experiences invisible. Tile drainage design influences groundwater flow pathways, residence time, and agrochemical transport in agricultural soils. This study evaluates how differences in drainage design affect subsurface flow behavior and contaminant transport in glacial till soils. A groundwater model was developed to compare conventional and controlled drainage systems with a shallow drainage system, and particle tracking was used to examine flow paths and residence times.

The results show that tile drainage creates distinct shallow and deeper flow pathways. In the conventional and controlled model, 88% of particles were captured by drains, while 12% reached the general head boundary. The shallow system drains …

Female high school band directors (FHSBDs) are significantly underrepresented (approx. 25%) in a male-dominated field. This inequity is sustained by societal gender stereotypes that create a double standard for traits like assertiveness and empathy. This mixed-methods study examined the leadership perceptions and career aspirations of female music teachers and highlighted the career obstacles and encouragements of female high school band directors (FHSBDs) by applying feminist theory to gender roles, self-concept, and leadership conceptualization. A survey of female music teachers yielded 89 responses. Then, 10 FSHBDs participated in a narrative-mapping activity and follow-up interview.

Guided by a qualitative collective case study employing two focus groups and six individual interviews, this dissertation in practice examined educator and community school specialist perceptions of the community school model and sought to understand how those perceptions inform the district’s approach to teaching and school operations. Findings indicated a genuine desire to make the community school model successful for students within the buildings but also emphasized a lack of role clarity and professional development opportunities, misconceptions around the model, and siloing within different programs in the schools.
