As commonly accepted in upper-level courses, course work should appeal to higher levels of Bloom’s taxonomy such as analyze, evaluate, and create (Halupa, 2021). However, course design choices can limit a student’s potential in reaching these higher levels of learning when a preselected number of topics and assignment types are provided by the instructor (Halupa, 2021). Additionally, not all students will thrive with instructor selected assignment design. Instead, instructors can offer a “choose your own adventure” approach to course designs (Sutherland, 2023; Yetter, 2022). Hundreds of WVU students in a large-enrollment introductory biology laboratory course (BIOL 115L) participated in an authentic research experience through the Prevalence of Antibiotic Resistance in the Environment (PARE) Project. This national crowdsourced research initiative engages students in generating environmental DNA data to identify potential antibiotic resistance hotspots. For the Fall 2025 semester, we designed a multi-week lab module to implement a cost-effective, scalable version of the PARE model suitable for a course serving approximately 900 students annually.

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC) challenges the constitutional and federalist principles embedded in the Electoral College system. By attempting to bypass the traditional amendment process, the NPVIC risks destabilizing the carefully calibrated balance between state and national sovereignty that has guided presidential elections for centuries. Rooted in federalism, the Electoral College was designed to ensure equitable representation among states, giving smaller and less populous states a meaningful voice in the electoral process.

My doctoral capstone was completed with Hope Therapy Center (HTC), a pediatric clinic in Da Nang, Vietnam that is part of a Christian-based nonprofit organization providing free therapy services to children with disabilities and their families. This project focused on the ACOTE areas of education and leadership. It was informed by a previous experience at HTC where I observed a need for additional staff education, caregiver support, and sustainable occupational therapy resources. Coming To America: How Consular Absolutism Leads To Discrimination, Justina Fakhry

This Note critiques a pervasive mode of discrimination that goes unchecked. Consular absolutism allows consular immigration officers to make discriminatory visa decisions, which are not subject to review. This Note begins with a discussion of the case law that developed the concept of consular absolutism, primarily by analyzing the Supreme Court’s gloss on the plenary power of the federal government in the realm of immigration. This Note then discusses how courts have built upon the plenary power doctrine to establish consular absolutism.

Legislation protecting the rights of disabled students has continuously evolved over time, with each revision containing a similar goal of promoting the inclusion of disabled students within the public education system. However, despite numerous revisions and evolutions, the finish line of inclusivity has yet to effectively be reached.

This Article discusses legislation aimed at protecting the educational rights of disabled students, and how standardized testing provisions within said legislation may be counterintuitively hindering progress towards inclusivity. Problem

The problem addressed was the lack of a clear, consistent definition of Limited English Proficiency, despite its influence on funding, programming, assessment, and student placement. The purpose of the study was to clarify how LEP is constructed and used in educational literature and to explore its impact on assessment practices. This study examines the definition of Limited English Proficiency and its implications for educational assessment and special education placement decisions.

Methodology

An integrative literature review, guided by meta-narrative methodology and structural coding, was conducted using 119 peer-reviewed sources from APA PsycInfo, ERIC, and JSTOR (2001–2023).

Purpose: The research aimed to explore how exemplary K-5 public elementary school teachers in Southern California perceive the factors that support or hinder S.M.A.R.T. goal implementation, as well as their suggestions for sustaining these practices in their classrooms. This study also examined how teachers who successfully implement S.M.A.R.T. goals experience the process of using them to promote academic clarity, strengthen student ownership, and foster long-term achievement.

Creating a welcoming and inclusive mathematics classroom is an important responsibility for all college mathematics faculty. But where do we begin? In this paper we present several techniques based on White’s (2024) building inclusive classrooms strategies framework, which the authors have found to be successful in making their own classrooms more inclusive. The techniques include the inclusion of contemporary diverse voices, exploring the history of applications of mathematical concepts, elevating the diverse intellectual history of mathematics, bringing diverse guest speakers into the classroom, and mentoring students as they engage in doing research. In this article, we describe an undergraduate curricular initiative involving mathematics and chemistry faculty and students. Supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Program, a program designed to encourage the study of and connections between quantitative fields and life sciences, this interdisciplinary collaboration features undergraduate student research and involves the development of curricular connections between mathematics and chemistry. Through this initiative, we have created activities for calculus courses featuring chemistry applications as well as activities for chemistry courses showcasing mathematical concepts. This study examines the recruitment and retention of secondary mathematics teachers in rural southwest and south-central Virginia public schools from the perspectives of school principals. Guided by three research questions focused on retention, recruitment, and opportunities for improvement, the study employed a constant comparative analysis of semi-structured interviews conducted with principals from 10 rural middle and high schools. Findings indicate that many schools have historically benefited from long-term teacher retention reinforced by strong community ties and supportive school environments. However, anticipated retirements, salary competition within the region, and increasing challenges in recruitment are beginning to place strains on schools. Principals …

This paper describes the evolution of a research-practice partnership (RPP) designed to understand the impact of data-informed decision making initiatives on supporting ambitious mathematics instruction and how middle-school based mathematics specialists facilitate those initiatives. While school-university partnerships have a history of designing, implementing, and studying instructional improvement efforts, the impact of such efforts on practice is not clear (Cai et al., 2017b; Denner et al., 2019; Henrick et al., 2016). Pediatric diffuse midline gliomas with H3K27M alteration (H3K27M-pDMG) are the leading cause of pediatric brain tumor-associated deaths. All H3K27M-pDMG are initially treated with fractionated radiotherapy, the standard of care, and most children succumb to their disease within two years of diagnosis. There are no universally effective chemotherapies and full resection is impossible due to the diffuse nature of the tumor and sensitive location. There has not been a significant clinical advancement in more than 40 years.

Patents function as signals as well as rights to exclude. They inform competitors, investors, employees, and consumers about the invention and its owner. How this information affects consumers is not well understood. Existing studies disagree about how advertising a product or service as patented, or patent pending, affects the price consumers will pay. This Article offers the first major empirical study of that question andfinds that consumers behave with surprising rationality: they will not pay any price premium for a patented product. A product's patent status conveys little information about whether it is superior to competing offerings. The results hold …

Adolescent sexual health remains a significant public health concern in rural Kenya because of the limited access to comprehensive sexuality education; therefore, contributing to high rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV, unintended pregnancy, and gender-based violence. This quality improvement project evaluated the implementation of the Game On for Safe Choices, a culturally responsive, game-based sexual health education intervention designed to improve adolescents' sexual health knowledge and confidence. Diabetes mellitus and food insecurity contribute to poor health outcomes among underserved adults participating in the Healthy Food Rx program at the Stockton Emergency Food Bank in South Stockton, California. Limited access to culturally relevant diabetes education and ongoing self-management resources may hinder effective diabetes management among food-insecure adults. Inpatient falls are a major patient safety concern, particularly in orthopedic units where mobility limitations, comorbidities, and postoperative factors elevate risk and contribute to preventable injury, longer hospital stays, and increased costs. At Sutter Medical Center Sacramento’s orthopedic unit, an annual rate of 16 falls and persistent gaps in patient and staff education highlight the need for a targeted quality improvement initiative despite use of an EPIC predictive fall-risk model.
