Background/purpose Alveolar bone reconstruction or regeneration demands the interim porous scaffold. It possesses adequate mechanical properties to enable it to withstand injured bones. Background/purpose Conventional irrigants such as chlorhexidine and sodium hypochlorite have strong antimicrobial properties but high cytotoxicity, limiting their use in regenerative endodontics. We hypothesized that thymol vapor could provide effective antibacterial activity with lower cytotoxicity. Materials and methods The antimicrobial activity of thymol in both liquid and vapor phases was tested against Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus mutans, and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans using a resin block model simulating curved root canals. The effect of thymol vapor, alone or with mechanical instrumentation, was tested on early-stage biofilms removal. Background/purpose Anterior crossbite affects facial aesthetics and may cause temporomandibular joint disorders and masticatory muscle dysfunction. Prolonged abnormal bite positioning may impact muscle activity and affect treatment stability. Background/purpose Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a serious side effect of antiresorptive, antiangiogenic or targeted agents, and usually occurs after dental extraction. The etiopathogenesis of MRONJ is multifactorial and not fully understood. MRONJ remains difficult to treat. Precluding MRONJ occurrence is therefore essential. Background/purpose Tegafur-uracil (UFUR) is widely prescribed as metronomic adjuvant chemotherapy for oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in East Asia, though its long-term benefit remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the oncologic and pathological impact of adjuvant UFUR in a large real-world OSCC cohort spanning three decades. Materials and methods This retrospective, single-institution cohort included 2048 patients with histopathologically confirmed OSCC treated at a tertiary medical center in Taiwan (1990–2020). The purpose of this pooled analysis was to systematically evaluate the associations of SNPs in 6 enzymes (CYP1A1, CYP2E1, GSTM1, GSTM3, GSTT1 and GSTP1) with risk of OPMD occurrence. Background/purpose: Machine learning (ML) in orthodontics often suffers from optimistic bias due to data leakage and improper handling of class imbalance. This study implemented and evaluated a production-grade validation framework - nested cross-validation (CV) - for three distinct algorithm classes (logistic regression, random forest, and gradient boosting) using a consensus-labeled orthodontic dataset.

Materials and methods: A retrospective dataset of 500 patients (334 non-extraction/166 extraction) was curated with 41 processed features. “Who Am I Now As A Mother?” Maternal Identity Negotiation During Children’S College Transition, Si Wang

This study employs narrative positioning analysis to examine how two Chinese mothers in transnational contexts discursively negotiate their maternal identities during their children’s transition to college. Drawing on longitudinal narrative interviews, the analysis advances three interrelated theoretical propositions. First, maternal identity work is revealed as a process of selective cultural bricolage, wherein mothers strategically blend elements from competing scripts of child-centered sacrifice, filial reciprocity, and autonomous individualism to construct a hybrid, workable parental logic.
