Like most mammals, canines have copious amounts of bacteria in their oral cavity. While some of these bacteria are beneficial and even necessary to their health, overgrowth of harmful bacterial strains can lead to plaque buildup and gum disease. To combat plaque and bacteria, several products are marketed towards canines. In this study, we aim to explore how the microbiome of the canine mouth is affected by a potential probiotic, Enterococcus faecalis, and an antimicrobial water additive found in dog mouthwash products, Cetylpyridinium chloride monohydrate (CCM). The Nebraska Natural Legacy Project recognizes the western massasauga (Sistrurus tergeminus) as a Tier I at-risk species. Provided are some general management recommendations regarding western massasaugas. Conservation practitioners will need to use professional judgment to make specific management decisions based on objectives, location, and a multitude of variables. This resource was designed to share available knowledge of this at-risk species that will aid in the decision-making process or in identifying research needs to benefit the species.

Childhood Through Motion: Reimagining Everyday Mobility Corridors For Learning, Independence, And Exploration, Olivia Liljegren

This project proposes the Childhood Through Motion (CTM) Framework, which reimagines how everyday mobility corridors can support children’s development through repeated engagement with integrated interventions along key neighborhood routes. Building on existing approaches such as Safe Routes to School and Playful Learning Landscapes, the framework integrates mobility, play, learning, and social interaction into a connected system of corridors and nodes distributed throughout a neighborhood street network. Rather than treating mobility, play, and learning as separate, the framework explores how developmental opportunities can be integrated into the public spaces children use every day.

Sin Nombre Virus (SNV) is an exceptional model system for studying wildlife disease because of how simple it is to capture, take samples, and obtain disease status from the primary host. Immune response is an important factor to consider when testing for SNV because it can affect susceptibility of the host as well as transmission of the virus. We examined individual and environmental conditions that may predict immune response and therefore possibly SNV transmission in wild populations. Rising rates of obesity in the United States necessitates an understanding of the multitude of factors that contribute to it. Recently, “food noise” has emerged as a topic of interest in this space. The current survey-based observational study aimed to understand the relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and levels of food noise. The results indicate a significant association between BMI and food noise levels and a connection between a history of disordered eating and food noise levels. What Makes Federal Circuit Opinions Influential?, Jason Reinecke

Marquette Law Review

This Article provides the results of an empirical study assessing the determinants of a patent opinion’s influence at the Federal Circuit. I draw on a novel, largely hand-coded dataset of nearly 2,700 decisions issued by the Federal Circuit over a period of more than seven years. I find that some judges are more likely than others to issue binding opinions favoring patent owners (and others favoring patent challengers). In addition, drawing on case citation counts, I find limited evidence that extremely pro-patentee panels tend to write slightly more influential pro-patentee precedential decisions. Wisconsin, like many states, has a rent abatement statute that authorizes tenants to withhold rent from their landlord. Despite the apparent strength of the rent abatement statute, tenants rarely utilize it. The statute, as it exists, fails to provide an adequate safety net for tenants. Even tenants with flawless abatement arguments are currently required to risk eviction to make a claim. However, the risk of eviction is merely the tip of the iceberg.

Adolescent suicide is the second leading cause of death among adolescents in the U.S. and is a growing public health concern. Schools are often the most accessible way for students to access mental health support. This makes them uniquely positioned to intervene when a student is experiencing suicidal ideation. Background: Sleep disturbances elevate brain amyloid-beta (Aβ) levels and represent a modifiable risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The orexin/hypocretin system regulates sleep–wake behavior and has emerged as a therapeutic target in AD; however, the effects of FDA-approved dual orexin receptor antagonists (DORAs) on amyloid pathology remain unclear. We compared lemborexant, an FDA-approved DORA, to doxepin, an antihistaminergic sleep medication, on amyloid pathology and microglial responses in PSAPP mice.

Methods: PSAPP mice received lemborexant (10 or 30 mg/kg/day), doxepin (35 mg/kg/day), or vehicle for 6 weeks beginning prior to plaque onset or 4 weeks after established pathology. Sleep was assessed …

Virtual Reality (VR) systems are being used more in education, entertainment, and research, but can produce motion sickness that could temporarily disrupt cognitive functioning. This study examined whether exposure to a VR roller coaster experience leads to short-term changes in cognitive flexibility, attention, spatial orientation awareness, and anxiety compared to a control condition. Participants were randomly assigned to a VR condition or a computer-based 2D viewing condition with identical roller coaster visual content. Participants completed three testing blocks: baseline, after exposure, and after a 10-minute recovery period. Courts have recognized the federal government’s use of government contracts not only as a commercial transaction but also as an instrument of policy. Governments routinely seek to promote small business interests, domestic industry, women-owned, minority-owned, and veteran-owned businesses. However, in cases of fraud involving these policy provisions, courts have consistently failed to recognize this dual nature of government contracts.

The intangible benefits that governments gain from these preferential policies complicate damage calculations for courts when dealing with fraud. Such complications have led to inconsistencies and the emergence of three main approaches. First, some courts have assessed that the government …
