Pitt Street Lp V. Weatherly Feb 2026

Pitt Street Lp V. Weatherly

All Decisions

A landlord's non-payment petition was dismissed at trial due to the landlord's failure to present a prima facie case, specifically lacking certified DHCR apartment registration proof. The landlord moved to vacate the dismissal, arguing it could cure the evidentiary defect and requesting an adjournment. The court denied the motion, finding the original dismissal justified, particularly given the unique circumstance of the tenant's incarceration which caused significant effort for their production. Granting an adjournment would have severely prejudiced the tenant, and the court found the landlord's lack of readiness for trial inexcusable.

215-219 E 2nd St Assoc V. Kane Feb 2026

215-219 E 2nd St Assoc V. Kane

All Decisions

Handwritten Opinion. In this nonpayment proceeding, the court granted the tenant's summary judgment motion, dismissing the petition for failure to state a cause of action under RPAPL § 711(2). The predicate rent demand was found fatally defective as it failed to properly credit ERAP payments according to their earmarking in the approval letter. This deficiency meant the demand did not fairly apprise the tenant of the periods for which rent was allegedly due, resulting in a substantial win for the tenant.

Williamsburg Pact Llc V. Doe Feb 2026

Williamsburg Pact Llc V. Doe

All Decisions

In a licensee holdover involving a RAD/PACT conversion, the court granted the tenant's motion to dismiss. The landlord failed to serve a mandatory Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Notice with the predicate 10-day notice to quit. The court noted that federal regulations define "tenant" to include "an individual or a family renting or occupying an assisted dwelling unit," thus requiring the landlord to serve the VAWA notice on the occupant tenant. This failure was deemed a fatal defect, necessitating dismissal of the proceeding.

165 E. 35th St. Llc V. Gross Feb 2026

165 E. 35th St. Llc V. Gross

All Decisions

The court considered the landlord's motion for a money judgment for unpaid use and occupancy and the tenant's cross-motion to modify a prior use and occupancy order. The court denied the landlord's request for a money judgment, holding that the amended RPAPL § 745 eliminated this remedy, leaving an immediate trial as the sole penalty for non-payment. However, the court granted the tenant's cross-motion, modifying the use and occupancy obligation to 30% of her monthly public assistance cash benefit, effective October 2025, pursuant to RPAPL § 745(2)(c)(i). The proceeding was restored for discovery.

EGFR-mutant lung adenocarcinomas (LUADs) that are vulnerable to the EGFR antagonist osimertinib (Osi) eventually relapse, owing in part to the emergence of drug-tolerant persister (DTP) cells that arise through epigenetic mechanisms. Intratumoral DTP cells can herald a worse clinical outcome, but the way in which DTP cells influence LUAD progression remains unclear. Osi-resistant (OR) cells exhibit typical DTP cell features, including a propensity to undergo senescence and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), which can activate heightened secretory states. Therefore, we postulated that OR cells influence LUAD progression through paracrine mechanisms. To test this hypothesis, we utilized congenic pairs of EGFR-mutant LUAD cell …

Prophylactic Norepinephrine For Hypotension During Cesarean Sections, Amanda Sullivan, Lisa Herbinger Feb 2026

Prophylactic Norepinephrine For Hypotension During Cesarean Sections, Amanda Sullivan, Lisa Herbinger

Group: Samford University Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing

The most frequent side effect of spinal anesthesia is hypotension, occurring in 60-89% of patients. The use of phenylephrine is associated with reflex bradycardia and greater fluctuations in heart rate and cardiac output when compared to norepinephrine. Continuous norepinephrine infusions have been shown to maintain maternal heart rate and cardiac output more effectively.

A 41-year-old female underwent a cesarean section under epidural anesthesia. Intraoperatively, the patient had multiple hypotensive episodes, which were managed by 5 bolus doses of phenylephrine and 4 doses of ephedrine. This case highlights the hemodynamic instability associated with intermittent phenylephrine boluses and raises the question of …

Debt’S Dominion: A New Epilogue, David Skeel Feb 2026

Debt’S Dominion: A New Epilogue, David Skeel

BYU Law Review

This Essay, written for the “Who Governs Debt’s Dominion” symposium, looks back on Debt’s Dominion: A History of Bankruptcy Law in America as the twenty-fifth anniversary of the book’s publication nears. The Essay begins, in Part I, by briefly describing how Debt’s Dominion came about. Part II identifies and seeks to explain a striking decline in optimism about American bankruptcy law since Debt’s Dominion was first published. Part III explores a few of the major recent developments in consumer bankruptcy, small business bankruptcy, and large-scale corporate reorganization that I would have analyzed in the book if it were written today. …

Green Rules, Fragmented Fields: Member-State Approaches To Sustainability In Eu Competition Law, Niccolò Galli, Armando Santoni

Yearbook of Antitrust and Regulatory Studies

This article provides a comparative, normative-evaluative examination of how sustainability is being incorporated into European competition law. Combining doctrinal legal analysis with economic reasoning, it clarifies competing definitions of sustainability, maps the contest between the consumer-welfare paradigm and sustainability proponents, and evaluates the legal and institutional implications of the Commission’s 2023 Horizontal Cooperation Guidelines. Drawing on national initiatives across Member States plus the UK, the study highlights contrasting instruments, from Austria’s statutory environmental exemption to the Dutch soft-law safe harbour and Greece’s experimental sustainability sandbox, and shows how these divergent approaches produce fragmentation and legal uncertainty for cross-border cooperative initiatives. …

Biologically-Inspired Multiscale Neuromorphic Architecture, Christian O'Reilly, Ramtin Zand Feb 2026

Biologically-Inspired Multiscale Neuromorphic Architecture, Christian O'Reilly, Ramtin Zand

Publications

This white paper proposes a biologically-inspired multiscale neuromorphic architecture that bridges key gaps between artificial neural networks (ANNs), spiking neural networks (SNNs), and biological neural networks (BNNs). While SNNs offer promising energy efficiency, their broader adoption remains limited by suboptimal performance and the need for novel learning paradigms. To address these challenges, the proposed framework integrates structural and functional principles observed in the brain, including hierarchical organization, sparse and modular connectivity, predictive coding, and diverse neuronal dynamics.

The architecture operates across micro-, meso-, and macro-scales, incorporating neuron-level diversity (e.g., excitatory/inhibitory and principal/support cells), canonical microcircuits (CMCs), and large-scale hierarchical organization. …

Qualitatively Assessing Trade-Offs And Co-Benefits At Local Scales When Considering Carbon Outcomes Among Other Management Goals, Adrienne B. Keller, Ann L. Calhoun, Stephen D. Handler, Maria K. Janowiak, Caitlin E. Littlefield, Brian Miner

Michigan Tech Publications

Natural and working lands are often touted as natural climate solutions due to their ability to take up and store carbon, and land managers are increasingly tasked with considering how management actions impact carbon outcomes alongside other management goals. As a result, there is a need to assess how management actions may drive trade-offs and co-benefits between multiple management goals. However, quantitative analysis of trade-offs is not feasible for many local-scale management projects. We used a case study in an oak savanna in south-eastern Wisconsin, U.S.A. to develop and test a framework for qualitatively analysing local-scale trade-offs. Our framework is …

Fedda-Tsformer: Federated Domain Adaptation With Vision Timesformer For Left Ventricle Segmentation On Gated Myocardial Perfusion Spect Image, Yehong Huang, Chen Zhao, Rochak Dhakal, Min Zhao, Guang-Uei Hung, Zhixin Jiang, Weihua Zhou

Michigan Tech Publications

BACKGROUND: Accurate assessment of left ventricular function is essential for diagnosing and managing cardiovascular disease. Gated myocardial perfusion SPECT (MPS) enables simultaneous evaluation of perfusion and function, but reliable contour extraction is challenged by image noise, resolution limits, and anatomical variability. Multi-center validation is further restricted by data privacy concerns, underscoring the need for robust and privacy-preserving contouring methods. METHODS: In this study, we propose a novel approach, FedDA-TSformer, which integrates Federated Domain Adaptation with the TimeSformer model for the task of left ventricle segmentation using MPS images. The proposed model captures spatial and temporal features through a Divide-Space-Time-Attention mechanism, …

One way to protect neurons is to protect them from oxidative damage by reducing lipid peroxidation (LPO). Therapeutic medicines that target the inflammatory response have antioxidant activities and can also block inflammatory cascade pathways and counteract cell lyses. The goal of this investigation was to see if new maleic acid derivatives could protect the brain from scopolamine-induced amnesia. To evaluate and characterize the maleic acid derivatives, spectroscopic techniques such as 1H NMR and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) were used. To further evaluate the synthesized compounds, an in vitro DPPH antioxidant assay was performed, compound 2f exhibited the best …

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Introduction

Infantile Epileptic Spasms Syndrome (IESS) is a severe epilepsy in children between one month and two years of age. Urgent referral of possible IESS cases from pediatricians and family physicians who care for children to neurologists for diagnosis and treatment has been shown to significantly improve patient health outcomes. Yet, a comprehensive list of IESS clinical features is lacking. We conducted a systematic review of studies to report IESS clinical features.

Methods

Articles from the MEDLINE Complete and Embase databases were searched from the earliest years of databases availability (1979) to July 31, 2024. We followed the Preferred Reporting …

Mechanical Characterization Of Petg – Carbon Fiber Composite Parts Using 3d Printing For Drone Frame Application, Dawit Tafesse Gebreyohannes

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol)–Carbon Fiber composites fabricated using fused deposition modeling are emerging as promising alternatives for lightweight UAV structures; however, their performance is strongly influenced by internal infill architecture and structural design. From an initial set of 21 infill patterns, five mechanically efficient patterns (Tri-Hexagon, Triangle, Support Cubic, Rectilinear, and Quarter Cubic) were shortlisted and evaluated through tensile, wear, impact, and hardness tests. Rectilinear infill exhibited the highest tensile strength (35 N/mm2) and superior wear resistance under loads up to 30 N, while Quarter Cubic showed comparable tensile performance (34 N/mm2). Support Cubic infill demonstrated the highest impact energy …

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Primary cilia are sensory organelles essential for signaling and defects in formation, maintenance or structure underlie diverse ciliopathies. Here, we identify lysine demethylase 4A (KDM4A) as a previously unrecognized mediator of ciliogenesis. Using genetic depletion and pharmacologic inhibition, we show that KDM4A is required for cilia assembly and maintenance. Super-resolution imaging reveals KDM4A localization at the basal body, where it distinctively wraps around the centrioles. We uncover a direct interaction between KDM4A and Rootletin (CROCC), a structural protein mediating centriole cohesion, and demonstrate that KDM4A loss increases inter-centriolar distances, implicating basal body architecture in ciliary failure. Together, these findings define …

The molecular pathways linking genetic variants to Parkinson's disease (PD) onset and progression remain incompletely defined; however, risk alleles in multiple genes, including GBA1, strongly implicate lipid metabolism. To systematically identify causal biomarker signatures, we analyzed comprehensive metabolome profiles from blood plasma in 149 PD patients and 150 controls, along with complementary genetic, RNA-sequencing, and metabolic data from other available clinical and pathologic cohorts. Using colocalization and summary-data-based Mendelian randomization, we tested whether expression and metabolic quantitative trait loci mediate the association between implicated genetic variants and PD risk. We further integrated differential metabolomics and proteomics from blood and brain …

Mom Is Developing Too: Preliminary Evidence For The Reciprocal Effects Of Infant Sensory Reactivity And Maternal Behavior, Emily C. Sweiss, Vincent Berardi, Elysia Poggi Davis, Curt A. Sandman, Laura M. Glynn

Psychology Faculty Articles and Research

Caregiver sensitivity to infant cues is well-established as a predictor of child development. Infants also actively influence their social environment, especially their caregivers, even from their earliest days. Sensory reactivity, characterized as hypo- (under) and hyper- (over) responding to environmental stimuli, is one domain of development that is likely to influence caregiver-infant interaction, due to its role in regulating emotions and responses to both physical and social stimuli. Although sensory reactivity could be an important target for improving caregiver-child interaction, the longitudinal, reciprocal relations between infant sensory reactivity and caregiver behaviors are currently unknown. In the present proof-of-concept study, we …
