Dynamic alpha tone mapping optimizes transparency for non-opaque digital content across varying environmental and digital contexts. An environmental sensing module, a content intent analysis module, and a composition analysis module concurrently ingest ambient luminous intensity, semantic metadata, and spatial frequency measurements of underlying content layers. A mathematical interpolation engine normalizes the data into a unified coefficient scale to select a non-linear Alpha Transformation Function. The Alpha Transformation Function, implemented as a localized gain map or a global gain curve, modifies the alpha channel of graphical assets during rendering. Estimates of cardiorespiratory fitness metrics (e.g., maximal oxygen uptake) from wearable electronic devices are often characterized by significant noise and variability. Inconsistencies arise due to algorithmic differences between manufacturers, sensor inaccuracies, and biological variance. The integration of data from multiple disparate sources lacks a standardized method for weighting measurements based on source reliability or handling late-arriving data. While the disclosed method is described in the context of cardiorespiratory fitness metrics such as VO2 max, it is equally applicable to any changing physiological variable derived from noisy or disparate sources, including but not limited to daily or weekly average blood pressure. …

The modern Supreme Court has defined “discriminatory intent” as a strict-liability concept. It does not matter why the government sorts people by a protected characteristic, such as race or sex; it matters only that the government does sort people by such a characteristic. This principle is the key holding of affirmative-action cases, such as Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. President & Fellows of Harvard College. Yet, in the recent case United States v. Purpose: Medical marijuana is gaining clinical and legislative relevance in Italy, yet little is known about Italian medical students’ knowledge, attitudes, and preparedness regarding its therapeutic use. As future physicians, medical students will play a key role in integrating cannabis-based therapies safely into patient care. This study assessed Italian medical students’ perceived knowledge, clinical exposure, and attitudes toward medical marijuana, and evaluated implications for the medical curriculum.

OBJECTIVE: Protocol for randomized controlled trial (RCT) examining effects of novel, remotely delivered intervention (called GetUp&Go) to increase physical activity (PA) in chronic, moderate-severe traumatic brain injury (msTBI), including a mobile health (mHealth) component.

DESIGN: RCT (Clinicaltrials.gov NCT06028334) with 1:1 randomization to 10 weeks of immediate treatment (IT) or waitlist (WL), with primary outcome measured at 10 weeks. A second randomization to 10 weeks of continued mHealth support vs. no treatment will allow for examination of effects of mHealth on maintenance of treatment gains.

Bringing partners together for critical reflection on their partnerships is important in nurturing co-creative relationships and processes. Building on prior work (Bringle et al., 2009; Kniffin et al., 2020), the Transformational Relationship Evaluation Scale (TRES) III Reflection Framework is both an assessment tool and a reflective intervention for deepening partnerships. The Framework guides community and campus partners in reflecting collaboratively on their partnership so as to generate actionable learning that can improve partnership practice. To identify the main barriers and challenges faced by LGBTQIAPN+ leaders in the workplace and examine their relationships with leadership self-efficacy. Methodology: Data collection involved LGBTQIAPN+ individuals in leadership positions, resulting in responses from 1,156 participants. To test the proposed theoretical model, Structural Equation Modeling analysis was performed. Main results: The findings highlighted issues related to group composition and diversity in sexual orientation and gender identity as the main barriers and challenges. The validation of the hypotheses supported the notion that the difficulties experienced by LGBTQIAPN+ individuals at work can provide them with valuable skills that lead to leadership, making …

Marriage and Family Therapy Faculty Articles and Research

Transgender and gender expansive (TGGE) people experience increased risk for mental health issues and suicidality, as well as significant barriers to mental healthcare, due to stigma and discrimination, including from mental healthcare providers. A sample of 945 TGGE participants completed self-report surveys, measuring experiences of stigma and barriers to care, and counselor competence. Data were divided into two groups by age and analyzed through linear regressions and one-way ANOVAs. Across groups, participants (approximately 58% of younger participants and 49% of older participants) reported experiencing stigma from a healthcare provider, and all reported some barriers to care, with more than half …

Does deference to religious authority undermine support for democratic norms, including those forbidding the use of violence for political ends? Scholars have struggled to answer this question, in part, we believe, because they have typically employed proxies for religious deference (e.g. Biblical literalism, worship attendance, and self-reported religiosity) instead of measuring it directly. We develop a new measure of deference to religious authority in politics (DRAP), using the 2024 Chapman Survey of American Fears. We find that (1) DRAP is strongly correlated with support for political violence; (2) other common measures of religiosity (e.g. Biblical literalism and self-reported religiosity) are …

Overtourism is not just overcrowding: it is a systemic imbalance sustained by feedbacks between visitors, residents’ welfare, the performance of local facilities, and environmental quality. Tourism carrying capacity sits at the centre of overtourism research and policy, yet it is still commonly operationalised as static visitor limits, implicitly assuming that thresholds could be set without accounting for the feedbacks they are meant to regulate. Here we introduce a minimal dynamical model that retains the essential feedbacks through which residents, tourists, economic capital, and environmental quality co-evolve. Background: Research has highlighted the value of centering student voices and agency in classroom contexts, yet few curricula explicitly foreground critical agency in their design. This qualitative case study examines how students enact agency within an integrated curriculum that combines computer science, social studies, and Indian Education for All (IEFA) standards. The unit focused on tribal sovereignty and why treaties still matter for indigenous people today, enabling students to connect their lived experiences to broader sociopolitical contexts. Introduction: Current efforts to provide language-inclusive radiological care fall short, resulting in suboptimal imaging, increased procedural time, and greater radiation exposure. Inadequate language accessibility results in poor communication, suboptimal care, and increased patient dissatisfaction. A digital language tool was developed to provide patient instructions during interventional radiology (IR) procedures, addressing this gap and enhancing patient care.

Methods: Observations were carried out to better understand workflow during IR procedures and identify how to incorporate the tool. We conducted interviews with IR physicians, nurses, and technologists to gather common procedural phrases and patient instructions. Spanish and Mandarin were selected because they are …
