This Article addresses a blind spot in the theorizing and debate over originalist interpretation: the implications of rules of legal ethics. For the few originalist theorists who take the practical side of originalism seriously, attorneys’ rules of professional conduct are almost entirely absent from the discussion. These rules bind all attorneys who, in turn, construct the record, present the evidence, and make the arguments upon which judges and Justices rely. And these rules have profound, though mixed, implications for originalist theory. Some ethical duties—such as those requiring attorney competence and candor to the tribunal—might enhance the quality of originalist analysis …

Of the fifty-six blackletter provisions in the Model Rules of Professional Conduct, the rule about pro bono is the only one that tells lawyers they “should”—rather than must, must not, or may—take a particular action. This verb, which in effect says: “You deserve praise if you do it but hey, no pressure,” embodies the partial perspective that dominates pro bono—partial in the sense of both incomplete and biased. Valorizing pro bono while imposing no consequences on people who fail to perform it indulges and flatters what this Article calls pro bono’s supply side. Bar leaders, rule writers led by …

Cryptocurrency has been legalized in the United States. The 2025 GENIUS Act provides a sensible regulatory framework for cryptocurrency as a medium of exchange while avoiding predicted monetary chaos. The Act correctly distinguishes between volatile fiat cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, which are unsuitable as payment mechanisms, and stablecoins backed by traditional currencies and reserves.

Historical analysis spanning American monetary systems from the “free banking era” before 1860 through modern digital payments demonstrates that private money has long coexisted with government currency but requires appropriate regulation to prevent bank runs, fraud, and monetary instability. Legal clients in the United States are increasingly multilingual and multicultural. More than 71 million people living in the United States communicate in a language other than English. Consequently, the lawyer’s duty of shared understanding is taking on new meaning. With the advent of ABA Ethics Opinion 500, cross-cultural communication skills are a lawyer’s ethical duty and a law school’s mandate. Additionally, ABA Standard 303(c) and the potential of increased experiential learning credit requirements make clear that immediate curricular changes are needed. Shoreline recession poses a substantial threat to coastal communities. This study evaluates the long-term viability of the undeveloped Napatree barrier spit in Rhode Island, which provides critical habitat for both flora and fauna, including endangered species, and protects the small town of Westerly from the direct impact of tropical storms and Nor’easters. While the Napatree shoreline has been morphologically stable in recent decades (1970–present), historical periods of higher storm frequency and intensity had resulted in significant changes, including spit splitting and significant transgression. Accurate and timely monitoring of crop water stress is essential for efficient agricultural water management, ultimately maintaining and improving crop productivity. While Landsat has been used for this purpose, its temporal resolution hampers timely detection of crop water stress. The recently released Harmonized Landsat and Sentinel-2 Version 2.0 dataset, which enables a higher-frequency time series of satellite observations (2–3 days, 30 m), offers a promising solution to this challenge. We explore the existence and dynamical generation of rogue waves (RWs) within a one-dimensional quantum droplet-bearing environment. RWs are computed by deploying a space-time fixed point scheme to the relevant extended Gross-Pitaevskii equation (eGPE). Parametric regions where the ensuing RWs are different from their counterparts in the nonlinear Schrödinger equation are identified. To corroborate the controllable generation—relevant to ultracold atom experiments—of these rogue patterns, we exploit two different protocols. The first is based on interfering dam break flows emanating from Riemann initial conditions, and the second refers to the gradient catastrophe of a spatially localized waveform. The present invention relates to large-scale CubeSat chassis and methods of making and using same. The disclosed CubeSat comprises specific structural features that can yield up to at least a 27 U CubeSat that has comparable or even better performance and benefits than that of smaller CubeSats. The impacts of haze on visibility, air quality, and climate are not well quantified due to a lack of understanding of the evolution of the mixing state and phase state of atmospheric particles during haze processing. The variability of the mixing state of atmospheric particles contributes significantly to uncertainties associated with the estimated aerosol radiative forcing. We collected particle samples in January 2018 from the highly polluted Indo-Gangetic plain during hazy conditions to study haze-processed particles. Single particle analysis using multi-modal micro-spectroscopy techniques revealed an abundance (40–70% by number) of potassium-rich sulfate particles from biomass-burning influenced smoke. New geochemical, U-Pb geochronology, and Sr-Nd-Hf isotope data provide evidence for the tectonic evolution of the Seventymile terrane in interior Alaska, USA. Ultramafic and mafic rocks of the Seventymile terrane are thought to represent components of a dismembered ophiolite and provide unique constraints on regional terrane evolution and accretion. The Seventymile ophiolite represents fragments of the Devonian to Permian Slide Mountain Ocean (SMO) that separated allochthonous and parautochthonous continental fragments of western North America. It now occurs as multiple thrust sheets containing Permian mafic and ultramafic rocks overlying and/or possibly imbricated with amphibolite-facies supracrustal rocks of allochthonous Yukon-Tanana terrane and …

In this interpretive phenomenological analysis, we interviewed 10 women to make meaning of their lived experiences of sex trafficking and mental health challenges and how relational dynamics influenced their healing and sense of self. Our analysis revealed four themes: (a) central relational paradox, which described internalized shame and mistrust due to relational ruptures as a result of trauma and inadequate trauma-informed care; (b) disconnection and disempowerment, attending to survivor protective withdrawal mechanisms and how counselor misattunement created cycles of disconnection and invalidation; (c) fluid expertise, where survivors emphasized that healing occurred when counselors embraced a collaborative, respectful stance, honoring client …

Latin American Refugees To The U.S. Experience More Discrimination Than Refugees From Other Regions, Sobia Mushtaq, Janet M. Wilmoth

Population Health Research Brief Series

Discrimination is a serious challenge for refugees trying to rebuild their lives in new countries. This data slice presents findings from the 2022 Annual Survey of Refugees (ASR), a nationally representative survey of refugees who arrived in the United States between 2017 and 2021 (N=1,364). The probability of experiencing discrimination was substantially higher among refugees from Latin America compared to other origin regions. Latin American refugees have a 62.4% probability of experiencing discrimination, compared to 12.6% for Southeast Asian refugees. The findings suggest that service providers and policymakers should not assume that all refugees face the same challenges.

The Human Disease Ontology Knowledgebase (DO-KB; https://disease-ontology.org/), a Global Core Biodata Resource, serves as a reference framework for multiscale biomedical data integration and analysis, within a unifying etiology-based disease classification. In this 2026 update of the Human Disease Ontology (DO) and DO-KB resource, we present significant advances in programmatic data retrieval and disease representation since our previous NARdb publication. Here we report on the development of a DO Nosology education program, the Spanish translation of the DO website and ontology content, and expansion of disease knowledge representation.

The Gene Expression Database (GXD; https://www.informatics.jax.org/expression.shtml) is an extensive, well-curated community resource that provides detailed information about gene expression patterns in mouse strains and mutants, with a particular emphasis on development. For over 25 years, GXD has systematically curated the scientific literature and collaborated with large-scale expression projects to compile and integrate detailed expression data from multiple assay types, including RNA in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, in situ reporter (knock-in), RT-PCR, northern blot, and western blot experiments. In recent years, GXD has expanded its scope to include bulk RNA-Seq data, imported from the EMBL-EBI Expression Atlas. Since our last report in …

WAC/WID programs are uniquely positioned to lead the response to generative AI (GenAI) in student writing—not by policing its use, but by guiding ethical, effective integration across and in the disciplines. This study shares findings from a spring 2024 survey of 226 students at a midwestern university, exploring how students use GenAI in their writing, what they perceive as its benefits and risks, and whether they’re receiving instruction on how to use it well. Students reported frequent use of GenAI for brainstorming and revising but noted limited faculty guidance. Many expressed nuanced views: they recognized GenAI’s potential to support learning …

The social dynamics of video games, especially those played online, are one of the primary motivators for gaming. Unfortunately, while there are numerous benefits to online gaming, there is also potentially harmful toxic and aggressive behavior. Prior research has investigated toxicity, but most studies rely on convenience samples, typically from WEIRD populations. The current study extends this scholarship with a nationally representative sample of Taiwanese adolescents who are frequent gamers, (a) quantifying their experiences with aggressive and supportive behaviors in games and (b) investigating personological-level variables that might explain reciprocating (referred to as “behavioral alignment”).
