BACKGROUND: Culturally adapted diabetes self-management education (DSME) programs are effective in improving glycemic control and diabetes outcomes among minority populations, but data on program costs and cost-effectiveness are limited. This study aimed to assess the cost and cost-effectiveness of a culturally adapted DSME (adapted DSME) compared to a standard DSME model among Marshallese adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D).

METHODS: Retrospective cost and cost-effectiveness analyses (CEA) were conducted using data from the community-based trial, conducted between May 2015 and May 2018. Renin synthesis and release is the rate-limiting step of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) that controls fluid homeostasis. A major activator of the RAAS is a decrease in perfusion pressure within the kidneys, suggesting a link between renal mechanotransduction and renin. However, the identity of the mechanosensor(s) in the kidneys and their physiological significance to the RAAS remain unclear. We find that loss of the force-gated nonselective cation channel PIEZO2 in cells of renin lineage dysregulates the RAAS by elevating renin. We observe that PIEZO2 is expressed in renin-producing juxtaglomerular granular cells and is required for their calcium dynamics in vivo. …

Wide variation of responses to identical stimuli presented to genetically inbred mice suggests the hypothesis that stochastic non-genetic variation, such as in chromatin state or enhancer activity during neurodevelopment, can mediate such phenotypic differences. However, this hypothesis is largely untested since capturing pre-existing molecular states requires non-destructive, longitudinal recording. Therefore, we tested the potential of Calling Cards (CC) to record transient neuronal enhancer activity during postnatal development in mice, and thereby associate such non-genetic variation with a subsequent phenotypic presentation - degree of seizure response to the pro-convulsant pentylenetetrazol. Purpose: Mandibular osteoradionecrosis (ORN) is a severe late complication affecting patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) treated with radiation therapy (RT) that significantly impacts patients' quality of life and can require costly interventions. Although radiation dose is a key factor, other clinical and demographic risk factors also influence ORN development. Previous predictive models have primarily been single-institutional, limiting their generalizability. In this first analysis from the PREDMORN Consortium, we have aimed to reproduce existing statistical association and modeling analyses on the largest and most diverse mandibular ORN cohort worldwide to allow comparison with previous studies.

Introduction: Each year, millions of people experience recurrent diverticulitis episodes. Elective sigmoid colon resection reduces the risk of recurrence, but The American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons recommends individualising surgical decisions based on the impact of the condition on a patient's quality of life (QoL). Background: Despite significant improvements in long-term survival outcomes for adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with cancer, common treatment regimens often pose substantial risks to the cardiovascular health of this survivor population. Differences in cardiovascular events by race/ethnicity and genetic ancestry within this at risk population remain unclear.

Methods: In this study, we investigated adverse cardiovascular outcomes in a diverse population of AYA cancer survivors (n = 346) treated at MD Anderson Cancer Center for Hodgkin lymphoma and sarcoma. Analysis was conducted by self-identified race/ethnicity and by genetic ancestry.

Knowledge workers in enterprise environments can face challenges when resolving complex inquiries, as they may need to manually parse and synthesize information from multiple historical precedents. Existing retrieval systems may identify relevant cases but can leave the cognitive burden of synthesis to the user. Systems are described that can automate the synthesis of insights. For example, a system may use a semantic similarity model to retrieve a set of procedurally analogous historical cases from a data repository. A hardware-based architecture can integrate localized monitoring modules near potential thermal hotspots. This disclosure describes a user-actuated hinge assembly for adjusting the declination angle of a temple arm. The assembly may comprise a pair of intermeshing geared components, one coupled to the device's main frame and the other to the temple arm. Background: The ambulatory arterial stiffness index (AASI) is increasingly used in clinical research and practice. This individual-participant meta-analysis aims to consolidate the prognostic accuracy of AASI in the general population and to derive an end point-based AASI risk threshold.

Methods: In 12 558 individuals enrolled in 14 population studies (48.8% women; mean age, 59.3 years), AASI was derived by regressing 24-hour diastolic on systolic blood pressure (mm Hg/mm Hg). BACKGROUND: The optimal timing of cranioplasty (CP) following decompressive craniectomy (DC) for the management of traumatic brain injury (TBI) remains debated. Prior studies comparing early CP (EC) and late CP (LC) report conflicting outcomes, compounded by inconsistent timing thresholds and limited attention to effect modifiers such as implant material.

Standard reactive scheduling request (SR) procedures in high-latency Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs) cause uplink delays, as a user equipment (UE) must wait a full round-trip time (RTT) for an uplink grant after data becomes available. This is compounded for large data transfers, which may require two RTTs for SR and Buffer Status Report (BSR) cycles. Combinatorial methods for preparing polymeric biomaterials enable the rapid identification of materials useful for many applications in science, medicine, and engineering. In the work described here, we demonstrate that side-chain reactive polymers can be used as templates for the rapid preparation of a small library of diversely functionalized protein–polymer conjugates. The activated ester polymer poly(pentafluorophenyl acrylate) (PPFPA) was modified postpolymerization with substoichiometric equivalents of three hydrophilic primary amines to yield a library of amphiphilic, side-chain reactive copolymers. These copolymers were then conjugated to two receptor-targeting proteins, holotransferrin (hTF) and an engineered fibronectin-based protein (Fn3), through amine-activated ester coupling. In this paper, a high-fidelity simulation framework is developed to assess the feasibility of tracking space debris using a large low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation equipped with onboard passive radar sensors. By exploiting illumination from a distributed network of ground-based transmitters, the constellation provides consistent line-of-sight access to debris objects at higher altitudes, enabling angles-only detection and tracking. This approach yields a scalable, automated, and cost-effective architecture for next-generation space surveillance and contributes to more resilient space traffic management. A complete angles-only passive-radar orbit-determination pipeline is introduced and demonstrated. The SYBR Green real-time PCR was developed for the rapid and accurate classification of major venomous snakes in Thailand. The method relies on melting temperature (Tm) discrimination of target genes from mitochondrial ribosomes. Short single-stranded primers were designed to specifically amplify synthetic DNA of venomous snakes in a single reaction (singleplex), producing distinct melting peaks. The history of teaching Indonesian in the United States has received limited scholarly attention, despite the field's existence for over eighty years. This study traces its development and identifies three main phases. The first phase began during World War II, when Indonesian was taught primarily to meet military needs through a structural and drill-based approach. In the 1960s and 1970s, instruction was restructured to support academic research, with teaching materials and classroom practices aimed at developing reading skills and preparing students for fieldwork. This paper explores the limits of freedom of religion in Morocco and the restrictions experienced by non‑Muslims, particularly Moroccans who convert to other faiths. It draws on an empirical study with a sample of university students and complements the findings with testimonies from members of two non‑Muslim communities—Christians and Bahá’ís. The article analyzes social representations, attitudes, and lived experiences within Morocco’s social, political, and religious environment, highlighting mechanisms of stigmatization, constraints on public expression of belief, and the challenges of integration.

This study investigates individual and institutional factors associated with scientific output among Moroccan university faculty in the humanities and social sciences, with particular attention to gender differences. Scientific output is measured through a composite score of publications over the past ten years. Based on a sample of 341 academics (105 women and 236 men), results show generally low productivity and a lower level among women. For women, output is mainly linked to rank, involvement in editorial/review activities, and external solicitations, while time‑consuming family responsibilities constrain research time. Institutional variables (teaching load, promotion, support, governance) explain little of the variation, suggesting …

Despite legal reforms and Morocco’s ratification of international instruments aimed at combating discrimination and violence against women, single mothers continue to face persistent stigma and multiple forms of discrimination. This article analyzes the legal, social, and economic determinants that shape discrimination across the life course of single mothers. It reviews the legal status of single mothers and their children under Moroccan legislation and highlights barriers to protection, social inclusion, and economic opportunities.

Fiscal questions have become increasingly central to public debate and are closely linked to widening inequalities. This article examines fiscal injustice in the context of globalization, intensified international tax competition, and the shifting of tax burdens toward less mobile bases. It discusses how the tax–public good relationship is framed and how heavy taxation may be perceived as unfair, producing economic, social, and psychological consequences such as tax incivility and resistance. Focusing on Morocco, the article questions which tax structures are perceived as fairest and how redistribution is experienced and evaluated by citizens.

The effectiveness of economic and social rights in rural areas remains a major challenge in Morocco. This study assesses everyday inequalities by examining the actual enjoyment of fundamental rights in two regions—Marrakech–Tensift–Al Haouz and Taza–Al Hoceima–Taounate—using a mixed‑methods design that combines quantitative and qualitative data. The findings indicate insufficient effectiveness across key indicators, including access to education, healthcare, and basic infrastructure, with particularly adverse outcomes for women and the poorest populations.

This article examines social inequalities through lived experience and everyday perceptions. Moroccan society produces multiple forms of inequality embedded in social order, socialization processes, and internalized value systems. Using an empirical survey, the study identifies how respondents describe and classify inequalities and how these perceptions relate to feelings of injustice and relative frustration. It also explores the main attitudes adopted in the face of inequality and discrimination—ranging from resignation and moral/religious endurance to forms of dissent and protest. The analysis suggests that perceived inequality does not automatically translate into open protest; many actors rely on pragmatic cost–benefit reasoning and develop …
