A236: Effects Of Four-Week Blood Flow Restriction Combined With Functional Training On Physical Fitness In The Elderly, Xinge Liu, Caijiao Zang, Huawei Chen

International Journal of Physical Activity and Health

Falls resulting from age-related declines in physical function significantly affect the quality of life in older adults and increase healthcare costs. While functional training (FT) helps mitigate these declines, its impact on metabolic load is limited. Blood flow restriction (BFR) training, which enhances metabolic stress through low-intensity exercise, has emerged as a promising alternative. This study aimed to investigate whether combining BFR with FT (BFR-FT) leads to greater improvements in physical fitness in older men compared to FT alone. Thirty healthy older men (71.07±5.51 years) were randomly assigned to FT, BFR-FT, or control (CON) groups. The study included pre-test, intervention, …

Physical activity (PA) is essential for public health, yet socioeconomic disparities persist. This study explores the impact of occupational prestige—measured by the International Standard Classification of Occupations Prestige Scale (SIOPS)—and intergenerational family capital on PA engagement among Chinese adults. Additionally, it examines whether government policy interventions can alleviate these inequalities. Method: Using data from the 2021 China General Social Survey (n = 623) and provincial statistical yearbooks, an ordered logistic regression model assessed the influence of individual and family SIOPS scores on weekly PA duration. Government funding for sports infrastructure was tested as a moderating factor through interaction terms. To …

A245: Exercise Ameliorates High-Fat Diet-Induced Cardiac Dysfunction In Drosophila By Regulating Lipin Expression, Yuepeng Li, Lan Zheng

International Journal of Physical Activity and Health

High-fat diet (HFD) induces systemic lipid metabolism disorders and cardiac dysfunction, including arrhythmias, decreased cardiac contractility, and other pathological phenotypes. Exercise as a non-pharmacological intervention has potential protective effects against metabolic diseases, but its molecular mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. Lipin genes play a pivotal role in metabolic homeostasis by integrating lipid synthesis, catabolism, and energy-sensing signals. In this study, we used Drosophila as a model to investigate whether exercise ameliorates HFD-induced cardiac dysfunction in Drosophila by regulating the expression of Lipin, a key gene for lipid metabolism. Method: Wild-type female Drosophila (n=360) within 12 hours of pinning were …

International Journal of Physical Activity and Health

Acceleration is a key determinant of performance in athletics and team sports (e.g., football, rugby). Resisted sprint training has gained significant attention as a method to enhance acceleration, typically through the addition of external resistance, such as sleds or resistance devices. Recent focus has been on heavy resisted sprint training (HRS), defined by resisted loads ≥30% body mass (BM) or ≥30% velocity decrement (Vdec). However, the long-term effects of HRS compared with non-resisted sprint training (NRS) on acceleration performance and kinematic adaptations remain inconclusive. This review with meta-analysis aims to review the current literature on intervention studies investigating the effects …

The purpose of this study was to compare the differences in emotional-behavioral problems between children with rDCD and typically …

A263: Exploring Cadd-Based Binding Modes Of Androstenedione And Its Metabolites With Potential In Vivo Targets, Yuhong Ding, Wei Dong Jan 2026

A263: Exploring Cadd-Based Binding Modes Of Androstenedione And Its Metabolites With Potential In Vivo Targets, Yuhong Ding, Wei Dong

International Journal of Physical Activity and Health

The abuse of androstenedione, an endogenous steroid hormone, among athletes to enhance performance is a significant concern in sports. Current anti-doping detection methods are limited by short detection windows and high false-positive rates, largely due to the transient nature of primary metabolites. To address these challenges, this study employs computer-aided drug design (CADD) to identify stable, long-acting metabolites of androstenedione that can extend the detection window and improve anti-doping efficacy. The integration of CADD with sports physiology principles allows for a more comprehensive understanding of how exercise-induced metabolic fluctuations can influence the detection of these metabolites. Method: Molecular docking simulations …

A253: Examining Health Variations Between Resistance Training With/Without Breathing Retraining In Overweight Young Women, Huan Cai, Chengye Dai Jan 2026

A253: Examining Health Variations Between Resistance Training With/Without Breathing Retraining In Overweight Young Women, Huan Cai, Chengye Dai

International Journal of Physical Activity and Health

Physical inactivity and overweight are public health concerns among young Chinese women. A decrease in respiratory strength and endurance has been reported in obese/overweight individuals, as the increased fat accumulation in the chest wall and trunk leads to weakness of the respiratory muscle and changes in breathing patterns, resulting in decreased lung ventilation, the capacity for oxygen delivery, and utilization. Studies showed that RT can increase cardiopulmonary function as shown by improvement of submaximal exercise and increased peak oxygen uptake (VO2peak), resulting enhancement of muscle hypertrophy. Breathing retraining (BR) can also manipulate breathing patterns. Therefore, the purpose of this study …
