Temperature Relaxation And Magnetically Suppressed Expansion In Strongly Coupled Ultracold Neutral Plasmas, Robert Tucker Sprenkle Dec 2021

Temperature Relaxation And Magnetically Suppressed Expansion In Strongly Coupled Ultracold Neutral Plasmas, Robert Tucker Sprenkle

Theses and Dissertations

Ultracold neutral plasmas provide a platform for studying transport properties in an idealized environment. In this dissertation, transport properties in a Ca$^+$/Yb$^+$ dual species ultracold neutral plasma and a Ca$^+$ magnetized ultracold neutral plasma are studied. In dual species plasmas, we study ion-ion temperature relaxation. We compare measured relaxation rates with atomistic simulations and a range of popular theories. Our work validates the assumptions and capabilities of molecular dynamic simulations and invalidates theoretical models in this regime. This work illustrates an approach for precision determinations of detailed material properties in Coulomb mixtures across a wide range of conditions. We also …

A Visually Realistic Simulator For Autonomous Evtol Aircraft, Seth M. Nielsen Dec 2021

A Visually Realistic Simulator For Autonomous Evtol Aircraft, Seth M. Nielsen

Theses and Dissertations

Electrically powered vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft could provide a new mode of air transportation of people and cargo that is low-cost, on-demand, and able to reach more areas than is possible with current technology. They have the unique ability to takeoff and land in congested spaces yet efficiently travel long distances which makes them a promising technology for applications such as rapid medical assistance, automated package delivery, or human transportation. This type of aircraft has only recently become a possibility, owing to advancements in battery technology, computing power, and sensor technologies, and thus support for eVTOLs is lacking …

The Efficacy Of Sequential Biologic Agents In Refractory Rheumatoid Arthritis After Failure Of Initial Dmard And Anti-Tumor Necrosis Factor Therapy, Antonio Giovanni Versace, Caterina Oriana Aragona, Daniela La Rosa, Marianna Chiappalone, Maria Concetta Tringali, Alberta De Gaetano, Charles Frederick Moore Jr., Donatella Sangari, William Neal Roberts, Gianluca Bagnato

Internal Medicine Faculty Publications

Introduction/Objective: The efficacy of biologic therapy in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has been well-established but, in practice, a quarter of patients will either not respond to the first biologic agent or will suffer an adverse event requiring a switch to a different drug. While clinical guidelines exist to help guide therapy and previous studies have examined sequential use of anti-TNF agents, there is little data to inform a multiple switch strategy. Our aim was to measure the efficacy of multiple switches of biologic in severe refractory RA. Methods: We enrolled 111 patients whose therapy with one anti-TNF agent …

The Markov Process As A Model Of Migration Based On The Example Of The Movement Of Banknotes, Arkadiusz Manikowski Dec 2021

The Markov Process As A Model Of Migration Based On The Example Of The Movement Of Banknotes, Arkadiusz Manikowski

Studia i Materiały Wydział Zarządzania Uniwersytet Warszawski

This paper presents a way of using the Markov chain model for the analysis of migration based on the example of banknote migration between regions in Poland. We have presented the application of the methodology for estimating one-step transition probabilities for the Markov chain based on macro-data gathered during the project conducted in the National Bank of Poland (NBP) in the period of December 2015–2018. We have shown the usefulness of state-aggregated Markov chain not only as a model of banknote migration but as migration in general. The banknotes are considered here as goods, so their migration is strictly related …

The Crime Of Intellectual Forgery Of Documents In The Form Of Invoices, Anna Wochowska-Petrykowska

Studia i Materiały Wydział Zarządzania Uniwersytet Warszawski

The article discusses the issue of intellectual forgery of documents in the form of invoices. It describes the current criminal regulation of the crime, its features and the threat of punishment. Doubts and dangers related to the introduction of the new regulation are indicated, and the directions of the legislation are marked. The above issues are extremely important from the point of view of running a business, the responsibility of entrepreneurs and people issuing VAT invoices.

Knowledge Management Processes As A Challenge Of Knowledge-Based Economy, Filip Tużnik Dec 2021

Knowledge Management Processes As A Challenge Of Knowledge-Based Economy, Filip Tużnik

Studia i Materiały Wydział Zarządzania Uniwersytet Warszawski

The article concerns the idea of knowledge and its innovative potential in the knowledge-based economy. The processes related to the knowledge transfer and knowledge management are often considered as factors determining the success in innovativeness. Knowledge management is also an important issue in inter-organizational cooperation since it considerably helps in the development of new technological solutions. The article provides research results on knowledge management conducted among enterprises and scientific units involved in cooperation under R&D projects co-financed by the Polish Federation of Engineering Associations and the National Centre for Research and Development.

Design And Analysis Of Flexible Insulated Pavement For Cold Region Applications, Zhuang Zhuo Dec 2021

Design And Analysis Of Flexible Insulated Pavement For Cold Region Applications, Zhuang Zhuo

Theses and Dissertations

Pavements in cold regions suffer from additional deterioration due to the influences of extreme climate on frost-susceptible subgrade layers. To address this problem, one efficient strategy is to add a thermal insulating layer above the frost-susceptible layer. This study aims to evaluate the insulating effects of four materials: XPS boards, tire chips, foamed glass aggregates, and foamed concrete. Large-scale insulated pavement boxes (1.2m×1.2m×0.8m) were constructed to compare the thermal performance of different materials. The thermal performance of each box was evaluated and graded based on indicators related to the short-term temperature decrease and long-term temperature variation.

Experimental results show that …

The Effects Of Boric Acid Sugar Bait On Wolbachia Trans-Infected Male Aedes Albopictus (Zap Males®) In Laboratory Conditions, Vindhya S. Aryaprema, Whitney A. Qualls, Karen L. Dobson, Stephen L. Dobson, Rui-De Xue Dec 2021

The Effects Of Boric Acid Sugar Bait On Wolbachia Trans-Infected Male Aedes Albopictus (Zap Males®) In Laboratory Conditions, Vindhya S. Aryaprema, Whitney A. Qualls, Karen L. Dobson, Stephen L. Dobson, Rui-De Xue

Entomology Faculty Publications

The field release of Wolbachia trans-infected male mosquitoes, as well as the use of toxic sugar baits, is a novel and promising candidate technique for integrated mosquito management programs. However, the methods of action of the two techniques may not be complementary, because the Wolbachia method releases mosquitoes into the environment expecting a wild population reduction in subsequent generations while the toxic baits are intended to reduce the wild population by killing mosquitoes. This laboratory study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of boric acid toxic sugar baits on Wolbachia trans-infected male Aedes albopictus, relative to wild-type Ae. albopictus …

Exploring End-Users’ Digital Literacy Skills In The Islamia University Of Bahawalpur, Pakistan, Muhammad Younus, Muhammad Irfan Saleem

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

This study aimed to explore end-users’ digital literacy skills in the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Pakistan. The study employed the quantitative research method to address the research questions. The quantitative data were collected from research students (M.Phil. and PhD) studying at different departments in the university through the questionnaire. The findings of the study suggest that the respondents had a high level of knowledge and skills to use the Internet, MS Word and computers. The participants were not aware of most of electronic resources. They possessed a low level of skills to retrieve digital information, produce and create digital contents, …
