Comment Of Proposed Department Of Labor Regulations On Esg Investing, Prudence And Loyalty, Edward A. Zelinsky
Comment Of Proposed Department Of Labor Regulations On Esg Investing, Prudence And Loyalty, Edward A. Zelinsky
Testimony
DOL’s proposed regulations about ERISA’s fiduciary duties of prudence and loyalty weaken the protection of America’s workers and retirees. Accordingly, these proposed regulations should be amended to delete the imprudent, unproven and ambiguous term “ESG,” to add more balanced examples which reduce misperceptions of ERISA’s fiduciary duties, and to expunge altogether the concept of tie-breaking which violates the duty of loyalty by encouraging the pursuit of collateral benefits.
The fundamental claims of ESG advocates are economically implausible. Such advocates assert that they consistently outperform and manipulate competitive markets. This claim is unpersuasive.
ESG proponents assert that a person making an …

This article describes our experience developing a novel mobile health unit (MHU) program in the Detroit, Michigan, metropolitan area. Our main objectives were to improve healthcare accessibility, quality and equity in our community during the novel coronavirus pandemic. While initially focused on SARS-CoV-2 testing, our program quickly evolved to include preventive health services. The MHU program began as a location-based SARS-CoV-2 testing strategy coordinated with local and state public health agencies. Community needs motivated further program expansion to include additional preventive healthcare and social services. MHU deployment was targeted to disease “hotspots” based on publicly available SARS-CoV-2 testing data and …

Purpose/Background Central venous catheters (CVC) are typical for critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). Due to the invasiveness of this procedure, there is a high risk for central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI). These infections have been known to increase mortality and morbidity, medical costs, and reduce hospital reimbursements. Evidenced-based interventions were grouped to assemble a central line bundle to decrease the number of CLABSIs and improve patient outcomes. This scoping review will evaluate the literature and examine the association between reduced CLABSI rates and central line bundle care implementation or current use.
Methods A literature review was …

Child Labor, Compulsory Education, And The Women's Movement, Kassidy Chaikin
Child Labor, Compulsory Education, And The Women's Movement, Kassidy Chaikin
Binghamton University Undergraduate Journal
This paper explores the connection between child labor, compulsory public education, and the women’s movement of the twentieth century. Child labor was a widespread issue within the United States beginning with the Industrial Revolution. In an effort to protect children the women’s movement of the twentieth century added the issue of child welfare to their platform. In order to overcome the obstacles of child labor laws being struck down, the solution ended up being compulsory public education. Although children were kept out of the factories, this paper argues that the public-school system really just prepares children to be a loyal …

COVID-19 is a major public health problem, with still questionable specific cure. Favipiravir is a COVID-19 antiviral that is potentially a therapy for COVID-19. This study aimed to analyze its effectivity and safety in moderate to critical hospitalized patients. This study was a retrospective cohort in a tertiary referral hospital in Denpasar City, Bali Province, Indonesia, from August 2020 to January 2021. There was a total of 192 patients; 96 in the favipiravir group and 96in the non-favipiravir group (remdesivir/oseltamivir). Effectivity was measured by assessing the clinical condition at the end of the isolation period of 14 days. The favipiravir …

Cave! Hic Dragones: Understanding Neocolonialism In China’S Economic Diplomacy Towards Angola, Ghina Salsabila, Indra Kusumawardhana
Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional
China is experiencing a fast and dynamic phase of economic development driven by its fast pace of industrialisation. The vast energy demand has pushed China to import energy from other countries with plentiful natural resources. To this aim, China conducts economic diplomacy worldwide, including Angola, a country with plentiful natural resources in Africa. The main concern of this research is China's economic diplomacy which is considered as a form of neocolonialism in this globalisation era. Therefore, the research question of this research is why China's economic diplomacy towards Angola constitutes neocolonialisation. To this aim, this study utilises the Neocolonialism theory …

Human-Animal Interaction (HAI) is a growing field investigating the complex relationships humans have with animals. Human diversity in HAI, or lack thereof, may have a direct influence on the way HAI data is interpreted and presented. Previous research has studied how apparent disability, racial, sexual or other diversifying identities might affect how humans interact with the world and their pets. However, thus far, there has been little research published on how inequitable barriers towards underrepresented minorities (URM) might play a role in how HAI is studied, interpreted and presented. The present study investigated human diversity among leaders in the HAI …
Shaving The Surgical Site And Infection In Lumbar Spine Surgery, Mazin Jawad
Shaving The Surgical Site And Infection In Lumbar Spine Surgery, Mazin Jawad
Iraqi Postgraduate Medical Journal
BACKGROUND: Spine surgeons ordinarily shave the skin of the surgery locality before operation start. Nevertheless, data from some surgical series proposes that preoperative shaving may enhance the post-surgical infection incidence. OBJECTIVE: To conclude whether shaving the surgical site before lumbar spine surgery induces infection in the post-operative period and whether presurgical shaving is compulsory. METHODS: A prospective cohort study had conducted over two years at the Department of neurosurgery, Medical City, Baghdad, Iraq, starting from July 2018. A total of 186 patients scheduled to undergo spinal surgery were randomly allocated into 2 groups: those in whom the site of operation …

Efficacy Of Microvascular Decompression In The Treatment Of Trigeminal Neuralgia: A Retrospective Study Of 24 Cases Outcome In A Single Center, Azad Najeeb Al-Qadiri, Abdul Ameer Al-Khafaji
Iraqi Postgraduate Medical Journal
BACKGROUND: Vascular compression of the trigeminal nerve at its entrance into the pons is the common etiological factor in trigeminal neuralgia. Jannetta developed an operation to move the offending vessel(s) away from the nerve. This procedure is referred to as microvascular decompression because it involves an operating microscope and microsurgical technique. The area is exposed through a lateral posterior fossa craniectomy (retromastoid craniectomy), and after the vessel or vessels are separated from the nerve, a material such as a synthetic sponge or Teflon felt is inserted to maintain the separation. AIM OF THE STUDY: Searching for efficacy and complications of …

Phytoplankton support complex bacterial microbiomes that rely on phytoplankton-derived extracellular compounds and perform functions necessary for algal growth. Recent work has revealed sophisticated interactions and exchanges of molecules between specific phytoplankton-bacteria pairs, but the role of host genotype in regulating those interactions is unknown. Here, we show how phytoplankton microbiomes are shaped by intraspecific genetic variation in the host using global environmental isolates of the model phytoplankton host Thalassiosira rotula and a laboratory common garden experiment. A set of 81 environmental T. rotula genotypes from three ocean basins and eight genetically distinct populations did not reveal a core microbiome. While …
Realising Compact Growth In Dublin; Reviewing Measures Adopted By Local Authorities To Concentrate Development Along The Proposed Metrolink Luas Greenline Transport Corridor, Paul J. Lawlor Mr
Articles
Since 1999, there have been a noticeable evolution in the Irish national and regional planning policy towards concentrating new development within the footprint of existing towns and cities. The approach of ‘realising compact growth’ has numerous benefits including reducing carbon emissions, making more effective and economic use of existing infrastructure, avoiding urban sprawl and helping to achieve more balanced regional development. To enable its achievement, the National Planning Framework (NPF) and the Regional Spatial and Economic Strategies (RSESs) have set ambitious targets for compact urban growth and they include measures that are designed to promote the development of vacant and …
