May-Thurner Syndrome As A Cause Of Phlegmasia Cerulea Dolens, Emma Pierce, Anjeza Cipi, Rebecca Dray
Eastern Virginia Medical Journal
We report the case of a healthy 24-year-old female who presented with acute-onset left leg pain and a clinical exam consistent with phlegmasia cerulea dolens. Imaging revealed extensive occlusive thrombosis of the left common iliac vein with signs of arterial compromise. She was started emergently on intravenous anticoagulation and underwent thrombectomy with angioplasty. Intraoperative findings were consistent with May-Thurner syndrome (MTS) – compression of the left iliac vein by the right iliac artery. This syndrome leads to impaired venous return and thrombosis. The patient was discharged on oral anticoagulation with vascular follow-up for possible iliac vein stenting. Recognition of this …

This article examines increases in women’s appointment to high courts around the world. It builds on research suggesting that movement by countries to appoint the first women to important benches often influenced neighboring countries. The same authors here look at the related feature that women in advanced industrial countries are appointed to constitutional and supreme courts sooner when subject to electoral pressure. They suggest that electoral pressure is not defined by the left-right ideological spectrum, but rather depends on a more specific support for gender equality.

Faits de Langue et Société (FLS)
Drawn from the International Study Days held at the University of Naples L’Orientale (11–13 November 2021), Interférences linguistiques et culturelles françaises en Afrique brings together contributions that examine French in contact with African languages and cultures, from the Maghreb to Sub-Saharan Africa. Rather than offering a simple assessment of the “vitality” of French, the volume foregrounds interference phenomena and everyday practices (code-switching, lexical borrowing, and lexical innovation), alongside social representations and educational and media-related stakes. It therefore provides an interdisciplinary perspective on multilingual dynamics and processes of appropriation at the heart of contemporary African societies.

There are words of Berber origin in all the dialects of North African Arabic. The Development Of Soft Skills In Teaching Practices (Case Study: Teaching French As A Foreign Language), Oumaïma Hantat, Malika Rafiq
Faits de Langue et Société (FLS)
Most research define soft skills, as opposed to technical skills. In fact, they are generally related to social, personal, professional and communication aspects. From the outset, the transversal dimension of these skills is important. In this sense, extrapolating these competencies to the educational field - especially in foreign language teaching - is necessary to make the actional perspective work. This article treats the integration and development of soft skills in a pedagogical context. Indeed, this study focuses more specifically on the integration and developmental methods of these skills in the approaches adopted by teachers of French as a foreign language …
