Evaluation Of Different Designs Of Thermal Storage In Solar Drying System., Najwa Khattab, Mahdy Badawy

A simple, easy built forced convection solar drying system consisting of a solar air heater, drying chamber and thermal storage has been constructed and tested. A new simple pebble bed storage, with special and easy form was designed to be heated with direct solar energy or hot air from the heater or both. The drying system performance was studied under different locations of the storage box with respect to the drying chamber during 24 hours of operation. The performance of the drying system with the best location was studied under different flow rates.

This article investigate the effect of long installation on the pile characteristics for cost an-place vibro piles. Twetey one non destructive integrity tests using the mechanical impedance steady state dynamic method were done on 21 piles having long installation time. All tests except one show that the piles considered to be sound. A load test on one pile gives gross settlement of 4 mm under 1.5 of the working load.

This paper presents Pour new circuits to fire the single-phase or the three-phase converters. Each of these circuits is synchronized with the supply-voltage using an optic-configuration which utilizes the galvanic separation between the low-power and the high-power parts and bridges over the distortion of the supply voltage due to the commutation. The firing circuits are performed with minimum components which are generally available and used in many applications. These firing circuits are tested using different load types. Analysis Of Single Phase Induction Motor Performance Characteristics., Ibrahim Amin, Hassan El-Deeb, Arafa Helal

This paper presents the numerical analysis of magnetic and electric characteristics of a permanent-split capacitor single-phase induction motor by the 2-dimensional finite element method which takes account the electric field and the terminal voltage. The main and auxiliary winding currents are calculated and compared with the measured values, good agreement is obtained. More precisely, the flux and maximum flux density distributions, axis-ratio and iron loss distributions are determined and analyzed taking into account the core saturation and secondary eddy current effect. The speed and capacitive characteristic curves of the capacitive motor are also analyzed and investigated.

This paper is concerned with the study of the effect of static tension of sewing thread to be fed through the needle on the form and strength of lock-stitch. For this purpose two types of fabrics of middle and heavy weight were used. The statice tension has been varied over eight levels. The results obtained showed that increasing the static tension of sewing thread tension caused a considerable decrease in the stitch strength and deformation in the shape of the stitch. Attempts were carried out to delineate the areas where the aquifer is vulnerable to water logging, head drop and pollution in the new and old reclamation areas as well. All of the hydrological, geophysical and soil factors were incorporated in the DRASTIC model. Parameters included are; depth to water, net recharge, aquifer media, water salinity, thicknesses and resistivity of successive geoelectrical layers soil media, topography and impact of the vadose zone. Until the recent there was no formula enabling to compute the menu square errors for each observed direction for angular measurements in 1st and 2nd order triangulation. It is usually supposed that adjusted values of these directions are equal to the average value calculated from m round. In this paper, there was a deduction of formula enabling to compute the mean square error for each adjusted direction at the reference points. This formula is recommended for the practical use.

A three-dimensional numerical model for predicting the beach evolution has been developed. A complete numerical model (SLMG2)was designed to represent most of the hydrodynamic factors affecting the problem. The N-Line model was used to simulate the sediment transport al the vicinity of groins system and to predict the shoreline morphological changes around it. The wave computations include wave refraction diffraction and breaking. The validity of the model has been confirmed by applying it to the calculation of deformation of bottom topography around groins system. An experimental analysis method for determining the torsional mode fracture toughness for rotating shafts is proposed based on a new calibration function. Also, the results of the experimental investigation are compared with the corresponding analytical results. We explore the tweeting behavior of S&P 1500 firms’ executives (CEOs and CFOs) and its market consequences during the period of 2011 to 2018. We document that executives tweet financial information related to their firms and time these tweets to firms’ major events, and that investors respond to executive tweets in addition to firm tweets. Using the latest machine learning techniques, we develop an innovative construct measuring the content similarity between executive tweets and firm tweets. We use this measure to disentangle whether the market reaction comes from new information or trust. We show evidence consistent with the view that …

Beyond Shareholder Value? Why Firms Voluntarily Disclose Support For Black Lives Matter, A. J. Chen, Patricia M. Dechow, Samuel T. Tan

We investigate why firms voluntarily disclose support for the Black Lives Matter movement (BLM firms) even though these disclosures have little impact on shareholder value. We examine two competing explanations: that managers are acting in the interests of a broad set of stakeholders, or that they are engaging in “woke-washing.” Our evidence supports the stakeholder perspective since we find that BLM firms have more inclusive cultures on multiple dimensions – from their board members, to employees, to the rights of shareholders, and to the compensation structure of top executives. Furthermore, BLM firms face less risk in speaking out since they …

The mechanical exfoliation of naturally occurring layered materials has emerged as an easy and effective method for achieving ultrathin van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures with well-defined lattice orientations of the constituent two-dimensional (2D) material layers. Cylindrite is one such naturally occurring vdW heterostructure, where the superlattice is composed of alternating stacks of SnS2-like and PbS-like layers. Although the constituent 2D lattices are isotropic, inhomogeneous strain occurring from local atomic alignment for forcing the commensuration makes the cylindrite superlattice structurally anisotropic. Transgender people routinely experience discrimination and mistreatment. Although transphobic attitudes vary from country to country, a more in-depth understanding of these attitudes is needed. Using a semi-structured online survey, this study investigates college students' attitudes toward transgender people in Japan and the United States, a cross-national comparison that aims to deepen our understanding of how transphobic attitudes are shaped and what opportunities exist to reduce transphobia amongst college students. Results show that Japanese students express more transphobic attitudes than U.S. students do; and that U.S. students had more experience with gender-based educational content and were more likely to know someone …

Mature urban tree canopy cover disrupts the local effects of urban heat islands and provides important ecosystem services such as energy savings through evaporation and shading, pollution removal, storm runoff control, and carbon sequestration. Sustainable urban tree canopy relies on the planting of juvenile trees. Typically, tree planting programs are only evaluated by the number of trees planted and there is a lack of analysis of juvenile trees post-planting. This study examines the value and distribution of energy savings provided by juvenile trees and how that value changes considering predicted tree growth and mortality by 2050.
