Objective: To assess the clinical and laboratory predictors of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients with sickle cell anaemia (SCA) and its relationship to morbidity and mortality.

Methods: This retrospective case-control study analysed data from patients with SCA that experienced VTE compared with matched control patients with SCA but no VTE (2:1 ratio).

Results: A total of 102 patients with SCA were enrolled (68 cases with VTE and 34 controls). Amongst the 68 cases (median age, 29.5 years), 26 (38.2%) presented with isolated pulmonary embolism (PE). A higher prevalence of splenectomy (73.5% versus 35.3%) was observed in the cases compared with …

In this paper, the researcher employs this construct to explore the financial literacy education arising from studying secondary school economics. It emerges from the author’s research aimed at exploring teaching and learning in secondary school Maltese economics classrooms. The underlying conceptual framework for this study is critical realism. Epistemic egoists are individuals who believe that there are no prima facie reasons why we should accept testimony. I need paper I examine the question "is epestemic egoism, an intellectual virtue?" I assert that a variant of epistemic egoism, called weak epistemic egoim, satisfies reliablist conditions for intellectual virtue. I also assert the extreme epistemic egoism, characterized as a blanket rejection of all testimony, is an intellectual vice. I also examine the possibility that extreme epistemic egoism is an intellectual virtue in rare situations. I argue that extreme epistemic egoism can be valuable, but not for strictly epistemic reasons.

Recently, Transformer has become a prevailing deep architecture for solving vehicle routing problems (VRPs). However, it is less effective in learning improvement models for VRP because its positional encoding (PE) method is not suitable in representing VRP solutions. This paper presents a novel Dual-Aspect Collaborative Transformer (DACT) to learn embeddings for the node and positional features separately, instead of fusing them together as done in existing ones, so as to avoid potential noises and incompatible correlations. Furthermore, the prevailing gender roles in elected key positions were identified. Microservices-based applications consist of loosely coupled, independently deployable services that encapsulate units of functionality. To implement larger application processes, these microservices must communicate and collaborate. Typically, this follows one of two patterns: (1) choreography, in which communication is done via asynchronous message-passing; or (2) orchestration, in which a controller is used to synchronously manage the process flow. Smart contracts are computerized transaction protocols built on top of blockchain networks. Users are charged with fees, a.k.a. gas in Ethereum, when they create, deploy or execute smart contracts. Since smart contracts may contain vulnerabilities which may result in huge financial loss, developers and smart contract compilers often insert codes for security checks. The objective of this study was to determine what blood cell types express the B lymphocyte-induced maturation protein-1 (BLIMP-1) gene. Such findings would be instrumental in research regarding the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) which is important in immune responses. The experimental model was a transgenic mouse that expresses the enhanced yellow fluorescent protein (eYFP) under the control of the BLIMP-1 promoter. Testing was carried out in two parts; (1) testing mice for eYFP presence and (2) testing mice for phenotypic cell markers. Cell samples were tested via flow cytometry. This report examines the potential roles and missions of the People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) new rotary wing capabilities in a cross-strait invasion. Looking specifically at the helicopter units of the PLA Army (PLAA), it discusses two possible scenarios in which these forces could serve as the main thrust in a campaign to seize control of Taiwan. In the first scenario, the PLAA would use nearly all of its rotary wing inventory simultaneously to overwhelm Taiwan’s defenses and quickly convince the country’s political leadership to surrender. INTRODUCTION: Functional luminal imaging probe (FLIP) panometry can evaluate esophageal motility in response to sustained esophageal distension at the time of sedated endoscopy. This study aimed to describe a classification of esophageal motility using FLIP panometry and evaluate it against high-resolution manometry (HRM) and Chicago Classification v4.0 (CCv4.0).

METHODS: Five hundred thirty-nine adult patients who completed FLIP and HRM with a conclusive CCv4.0 diagnosis were included in the primary analysis. Thirty-five asymptomatic volunteers ("controls") and 148 patients with an inconclusive CCv4.0 diagnosis or systemic sclerosis were also described.
