In 1935 Frederick Kinch began making home movies using Kodak’s newly introduced 8 mm camera. He filmed his children, a few hunting trips, and his alma mater—Colby. The film he spliced together from two trips to Waterville has recently surfaced, providing rare moving images of both downtown and Mayflower Hill campuses.

It was one hundred years ago that Karl Raymond Kennison, Class of 1906, submitted an entry to a Colby song contest. Hail, Colby, hail! Thy sons from far and near. Stand at thy call, Our Alma Mater dear, the lyrics began, set to the melody of “O Canada.” Kennison’s song stood out, winning him the $25 first prize.

Will Hochman ’14 made his Broadway debut last month in the New York Times critic’s pick The Sound Inside with Tony Award-winning co-star Mary-Louise Parker. Hochman first appeared in the two-person play, about the relationship between a Yale creative writing professor and her student, last year at the Williamstown Theatre Festival. Freelance journalist Abukar Adan ’17 sat down with Hochman in his dressing room at Studio 54 to discuss his debut, his time at Colby, and his journey to the big stage.

A user equipment (UE) includes multiple subscriber identification module (SIM) cards to connect to different networks, including any available opportunistic data network. To support connection to 5G opportunistic data networks, the UE employs the primary network stack (the network stack associated with the primary SIM card) to connect to a 5G communications network (e.g., a 5G cellular network), and further employs the primary network stack to periodically scan for opportunistic data networks. Currently, such users of a road or hiking/bicycling pathway need to find shelters on their own or ask locals or fellow travelers for advice. When multiple devices that support a virtual assistant activated by an activation hotword are present in a particular location, the virtual assistant can trigger on more than one device when a user utters the hotword. There is no existing mechanism for accurate device arbitration. This can cause a device other than the one the user intended (e.g., nearest to the user or most suited to the command) to respond to the user request, leading to user frustration.
