Analysis Of Camera Trap Footage Through Subject Recognition, Nirnayak Bhardwaj
Analysis Of Camera Trap Footage Through Subject Recognition, Nirnayak Bhardwaj
Master's Projects
Motion-sensitive cameras, otherwise known as camera traps, have become increasingly popular amongst ecologists for studying wildlife. These cameras allow scientists to remotely observe animals through an inexpensive and non-invasive approach. Due to the lenient nature of motion cameras, studies involving them often generate excessive amounts of footage with many photographs not containing any animal subjects. Thus, there is a need for a system that is capable of analyzing camera trap footage to determine if a picture holds value for researchers. While research into automated image recognition is well documented, it has had limited applications in the field of ecology. This …
Employee Churn Prediction Using Logistic Regression And Support Vector Machine, Rajendra Maharjan
Employee Churn Prediction Using Logistic Regression And Support Vector Machine, Rajendra Maharjan
Master's Projects
It is a challenge for Human Resource (HR) team to retain their existing employees than to hire a new one. For any company, losing their valuable employees is a loss in terms of time, money, productivity, and trust, etc. This loss could be possibly minimized if HR could beforehand find out their potential employees who are planning to quit their job hence, we investigated solving the employee churn problem through the machine learning perspective. We have designed machine learning models using supervised and classification-based algorithms like Logistic Regression and Support Vector Machine (SVM). The models are trained with the IBM …

Give Me Body! Race, Gender, And Corpulence Identity In The Artistry And Activism Of Queen Latifah, Shannon Cochran
Give Me Body! Race, Gender, And Corpulence Identity In The Artistry And Activism Of Queen Latifah, Shannon Cochran
Journal of Hip Hop Studies
Celebrity Queen Latifah’s body is one of the most observable Black female bodies in contemporary United States culture. Using Black feminist theory, textual analysis, and Hip Hop theory, I examine Queen Latifah’s Hip Hop corpulence bodily and narrative performativity. That is, I identify her usage of her body in different and varied spaces. Even though Queen Latifah’s weight has fluctuated throughout her career, she has centered her body in spaces that have previously been hostile to corpulent, defined here as simply meaning larger and nonconforming, bodies; particularly, corpulent Black female bodies. I build on the work of Black feminist scholars, …

“A Different Type Of Time”: Hip Hop, Fugitivity, And Fractured Temporality, Pedro Lebrón Ortiz
Journal of Hip Hop Studies
In this article, I seek to explore Hip Hop as an expression of marronage. I identify marronage as an existential mode of being which restitutes human temporality. Slavery and flight from slavery constituted two inextricable historical processes, therefore logics of marronage must also constitute contemporary human experience. I argue that Hip Hop offers a distinct way of affirming and expressing one’s existence through what has been called a “maroon consciousness.” In the same way that maroons created new worlds free from the tyranny of slavery, Hip Hop offers the Hip Hoppa a space free from colonial logics.
A Critical Interpretive Synthesis Of Research Linking Hip Hop And Wellbeing In Schools, Alexander Crooke, Cristina Almeida, Rachael Comte
A Critical Interpretive Synthesis Of Research Linking Hip Hop And Wellbeing In Schools, Alexander Crooke, Cristina Almeida, Rachael Comte
Journal of Hip Hop Studies
Hip Hop is recognized as an agent for youth development in both educational and well-being spaces, yet literature exploring the intersection of the two areas is comparatively underdeveloped. This article presents a critical interpretive synthesis of twenty-two articles investigating school-based well-being interventions which used Hip Hop. The critical stance taken aimed to identify or expose assumptions underpinning this area of scholarship and practice. Our analysis suggested several assumptions operate in this space, including the idea rap represents a default for Hip Hop culture, and the default beneficiaries of Hip Hop-informed interventions are students of color living in underprivileged, inner-city US …

United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications
Currently, some species of Sapindaceae are important fruit crops worldwide. The Huaya India (Meliccocus oliviformis, Sapindaceae) is a neglected Neotropical fruit tree consumed locally in the Maya Lowlands of Mexico, where it exists in both wild and domesticated forms. Our objective was to evaluate the genetic diversity of the Huaya India in its possible domestication area and thus generate knowledge that serves as the basis for a commercial management. A total of 450 individuals collected from 15 natural vegetation sites and 15 Maya villages, were characterized using nine microsatellite loci and population genetics approaches were applied. STRUCTURE, Neighbor-Joining and PCoA …

Neural Mediators Of Subjective And Autonomic Responding During Threat Learning And Regulation, Hannah S. Savage, Christopher G. Davey, Tor D. Wager, Sarah N. Garfinkel, Bradford A. Moffat, Rebecca D. Glarin, Ben J. Harrison
Dartmouth Scholarship
Threat learning elicits robust changes across multiple affective domains, including changes in autonomic indices and subjective reports of fear and anxiety. It has been argued that the underlying causes of such changes may be dissociable at a neural level, but there is currently limited evidence to support this notion. To address this, we examined the neural mediators of trial-by-trial skin conductance responses (SCR), and subjective reports of anxious arousal and valence in participants (n = 27; 17 females) performing a threat reversal task during ultra-high field functional magnetic resonance imaging. This allowed us to identify brain mediators during initial threat …
The Impact Of The Presidency Of Donald Trump On American Jewry And Israel, Steven F. Windmueller
The Impact Of The Presidency Of Donald Trump On American Jewry And Israel, Steven F. Windmueller
The Jewish Role in American Life: An Annual Review
The Trump presidency has resulted in a fundamentally disruptive moment in this nation’s political culture. Not only were there different policy options and directions, but the cultural artifacts of politics changed because of how this president dramatically challenged the existing norms of political behavior and action. As we have shifted from a period of American liberalism to a time of political populism, deep fissures are dividing Americans in general and Jews in particular.
The Impact of the Presidency of Donald Trump on American Jewry and Israel unpacks President Donald Trump’s distinctive and unique relationship with the American Jewish community and …

Democracy And The Media: The Year In C-Span Archives Research, Volume 7, Robert X. Browning
The Year in C-SPAN Archives Research
Volume 7 of The Year in C-SPAN Archives Research series focuses on the relationship between democracy and the media. Using the extensive collection of the C-SPAN Video Library, chapters cover Trump political rallies, congressional references of late-night comedy, responses of African American congresswomen to COVID-19 bills, and congressional attacks on the media through floor speeches in the House of Representatives and Senate.
The C-SPAN Video Library is unique because there is no other research collection that is based on video research of contemporary politics. Methodologically distinctive, much of the research uses new techniques to analyze video, text, and spoken words …

Abstract
Introduction: Paragangliomas have a wide range of clinical presentations. A significant portion of these tumors are discovered as abdominal masses on imaging or palpation in patients without typical symptoms of catecholamine excess [1]. This case reports a 28-year-old female who presented with fever of unknown origin and was found to have an abdominal mass on CT imaging. This mass was biopsied prior to a complete evaluation and confirmed to be a paraganglioma. Case report: We discuss the case of a 28 year-old-female who presented to the Endocrinology office after she was …
If It Pleases The Court: The Impact Of Late Night Political Comedy On Citizens’ View Of The Supreme Court, Elisabeth Stankevitz
If It Pleases The Court: The Impact Of Late Night Political Comedy On Citizens’ View Of The Supreme Court, Elisabeth Stankevitz
Honors Scholar Theses
The potential effects of political comedy as a critic and an educator have seen increasing research in the past decades. The vast majority of this comedy focused research focuses on general politics and presidential campaigns, overlooking the role comedy can play regarding the Supreme Court, despite research examining the role of traditional news media in informing and shaping opinions about the Court. I connected these areas of research to explore the possible effects of political comedy in regards to the Supreme Court. I studied five late-night political comedy shows and determined each one’s potential to be educational and potential to …
The Association Fallacy – Fraud And Financial Reporting Quality In The Customer-Supplier Relationship, Nicholas Willett
The Association Fallacy – Fraud And Financial Reporting Quality In The Customer-Supplier Relationship, Nicholas Willett
Honors Scholar Theses
As with individuals, corporate entities are vulnerable to committing logical fallacies in the decision-making process. One such fallacy that has been observed across multiple disciplines is the phenomenon of guilt by association, here referred to as the “association fallacy.” In this study, I demonstrate the existence of the association fallacy within historical customer-supplier relationships, during which the supplier is named in an SEC Accounting and Auditing Enforcement Release (AAER). A panel regression is employed to track indicators of customer earnings management behavior in the years before, during, and after the supplier AAER. A cross-sectional analysis is also used to assess …
