Recovering water, nutrients, energy, and critical materials from waste streams is essential for building resilient and circular water systems. Yet many recovery technologies fail to achieve adoption or persistence beyond pilot scales because they overlook the social and institutional contexts that shape implementation. This Perspective reframes resource recovery as an adaptive challenge, i.e., one that depends as much on governance capacity, trust, and collective learning as on technical optimization. We propose a watershed- and place-based framework that situates recovery systems within the ecological and institutional boundaries where communities, infrastructure, and governance intersect. Cultivation Of Arthrospira Platensis (Spirulina) In Food-Based Industrial Wastewater For High-Yield Phycocyanin Extraction, Pavithira Sathinathan

Arthrospira platensis (Spirulina) is a filamentous cyanobacterium valued for its nutritional profile, particularly the pigment–protein phycocyanin, with potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Despite its industrial significance, large-scale commercialization remains constrained by high cultivation costs and inefficient extraction methods. This study investigated the use of food-based industrial wastewater as an alternative nutrient medium for Spirulina cultivation, aiming to reduce production costs, enhance phycocyanin yield, and support sustainable wastewater remediation. Three types of food-based wastewater with different nutrient composition (WW1, WW2, WW3) was diluted with Kosaric medium (1:1) and used for Spirulina cultivation. This dissertation explores the potential of applying tarot as a pedagogical tool in connection with ecofeminist theories in order to assess if tarot can be a meaningful pedagogical modality to improve learner comprehension. The dissertation is guided by six research questions, explored in the introduction section, in order to examine how tarot embodies ecofeminist critiques of dualistic Western thought. Objective: Performance validity tests (PVTs) are an essential component of a neuropsychological evaluation. There is a lack of brief validated PVTs for use alongside cognitive screening assessments for dementia. The current study sought to develop and evaluate a series of brief PVTs, which could be embedded into the Addenbrooke’s Cognitive Examination (ACE-III) and used in a dementia clinic. Method: This study used a diagnostic accuracy design to compare the performance of 31 individuals with Alzheimer’s disease dementia and 26 healthy older adults who simulated having Alzheimer’s disease. Background: Limited information is available on how DNA methylation of cytosine-phosphate-guanine (CpG) sites across the genome regulate circulating von Willebrand Factor (VWF) and factor VIII (FVIII) levels.

Methods: We performed an epigenome-wide association study to examine the association of leukocyte DNA methylation levels at 483,735 CpG sites with VWF antigen plasma levels and FVIII activity in 2,597 Black and 1,011 White participants from the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study. VWF antigen levels and FVIII activity were measured at the baseline exam, while DNA methylation was measured with the Infinium HumanMethylation450 BeadChip array at visit 2 or 3. Previous studies have demonstrated poor outcomes in pediatric patients with H3 G34-mutant diffuse hemispheric glioma (DHG). However, the biological basis for this therapeutic resistance remains poorly understood. Furthermore, the effectiveness of temozolomide (TMZ) and the role of surgery in pediatric patients remain uncertain. Therefore, we performed a multi-institutional retrospective analysis of the clinical, imaging, and molecular characteristics of 36 pediatric (≤ 18 years) patients with newly diagnosed H3 G34-mutant DHG. INTRODUCTION: Cancer treatment decision making (CTDM) presents important challenges among older adults due to variation in health and functional status, presence of comorbidities, differing goals/values, quality and quantity of life considerations, and limited inclusion in clinical trials. IMPORTANCE: Distinguishing primary lung squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) from squamous metastases to the lung is a clinical challenge due to histopathologic similarities. Accurate diagnosis is essential to guide treatment decisions.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the utility of an artificial intelligence (AI) approach that includes evaluation of key orthogonal evidence in distinguishing primary lung SCCs from metastatic tumors of other tissue origins.

PURPOSE: To dissect the clinical and immunologic features of people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV; PLWH) diagnosed with melanoma, who have consistently shown worse outcomes than HIV-negative individuals (PLw/oH) with the same cancer.

EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: We analyzed electronic health records from 1,087 PLWH and 394,437 PLw/oH with melanoma. Demographic and clinical characteristics were compared. Spatial immune transcriptomics (72 immune-related genes) was performed on melanoma tumor samples (n = 11), with downstream validation using multiplex immunofluorescence (mIF; n = 15 PLWH, n = 14 PLw/oH).

Benevolence And Brutality: Evangelical Christianity & Child Welfare Social Work In Historical Perspective, Grace Pappas

Evangelical Christians in the U.S. are a unique population with tremendous socio-political influence. While evangelicals have a unique interest in foster care and adoption, little social work scholarship explores intersections between evangelicalism and child welfare. Through an integrative literature review of 11 historical articles discussing evangelical Christianity and child welfare social work, I found the scholarship as a whole tended to emphasize evangelical Christians’ good intentions and deeds, while only limitedly discussing white supremacy, xenophobia, and settler colonialism. In light of these findings, I discuss potential implications and offer three invitations for further exploring this line of inquiry.

High care costs for children and older adults put an increasing strain on American families, often pushing caregivers out of the workforce. While investments in affordable care deliver lasting benefits for families, employers, and the economy, the federal Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit (CDCTC) falls short—leaving states well positioned to make a difference. This Policy Blueprint highlights three ways the CDCTC fails families, and three solutions for designing a state tax credit that can help.

Mogul skiing imposes high neuromuscular and lower-extremity loading athlete demands, yet mogul-specific reference values for jump-derived force–power characteristics and differential utilization metrics have remained limited. The specific aims of this study were to: 1) establish descriptive statistics, including means, percentiles, and variability for jump height (JH), peak force (PF), and peak power (PP) during the squat jump (SJ) and countermovement jump (CMJ) in elite mogul skiers, 2) determine corresponding countermovement utilization ratio (CUR) values for each measure (JH-CUR, PF-CUR, and PP-CUR), and 3) report descriptive outcomes independently for both male and female athletes to provide sex-specific reference profiles. We report on two-terminal-pair and four-terminal-pair (4TP) measurements of a 10 kΩ resistance standard by means of a commercial precision inductance-capacitance-resistance meter (LCR meter) at frequencies up to 2 MHz. We discuss the effect of cables on a resistance standard measured in either two- or 4TP configuration and demonstrate within which uncertainty the effect of 2.5 m long measuring cables can be corrected accurately. Such long cables are inevitable for precision measurements of the quantum Hall resistance (QHR) at high frequencies. Greywater reuse is vital in water-scarce regions, yet effective treatment remains challenging due to variable organic loads and limited infrastructure. This study investigates the effect of temperature variation on the efficiency of a Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) in treating greywater under realistic conditions. Greywater samples collected from households in Mosul, Iraq, were treated in a bench-scale SBR operated at 10, 23, and 36 °C with cycle times of 6, 8, and 12 hours. The reactor included aeration, temperature control, and sludge recirculation. Treatment performance was assessed through COD, TSS, nitrate, and pH analysis in influent and effluent samples.
