Background/purpose TGF-β1 (Transforming growth factor-β1) plays an important role in the regeneration and repair of pulp-dentin complex. However, the biological function of TGF-β1 on odontoblastic differentiation remains unclear, mainly due to the processes of differentiation were controlled by complex signaling pathways. This study aimed to investigate the signaling pathways involved in regulating the early differentiation of dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) by TGF-β1 and their functional role. Materials and methods DPSCs were treated with 1 ng/mL TGF-β1 and Western blotting was conducted to examine the activation of protein kinase B (AKT), small mothers against decapentaplegic 3 (Smad3), p38 mitogen-activated protein …

Abstract Background/purpose The elimination and debridement of intracanal bacteria are credited with long-term effectiveness in endodontic therapy. This study aimed to compare the antimicrobial efficacies of Amorphophallus paeoniifolius (Suran), Colocasia esculenta (Aravi) crude extracts as intracanal medicaments with calcium hydroxide (CH), 2% chlorhexidine (CHX) gel, and 940 nm diode laser. Materials and methods Fifty-eight intact, single-root, extracted human mandibular premolar teeth were prepared. The samples were sterilized, transferred into microcentrifuge tubes, and inoculated with E. faecalis . The samples were placed in an incubator for three weeks to allow the biofilm to grow. Then the samples were randomly divided into …

Abstract Background/purpose It was reported that lncRNAs have an effect on immune-related diseases, however, their roles in periodontitis remain to be investigated. The aim of this study was to look for immune-related lncRNAs in periodontitis, and to preliminarily explore their function in vitro . Materials and methods CIBERSORT was used to analyze abundance of immune cell in the periodontal tissue. Correlation between the expression profile of lncRNAs and abundance of immune cell was calculated and immune-related lncRNAs were identified. The expressions of immune-related lncRNAs identified were validated by RT-qPCR with 15 periodontitis and 15 healthy gingival tissues. The expressions of …

Abstract Background/purpose Among the craniofacial structures, the mandible is the only bony structure with movable joints. Each part (including condyle process, coronoid process, and ramus) of mandible would interaction with the muscles and proceed different osteogenesis progress. The objective of this study was to evaluate the mandibles with symmetric and asymmetric skeletal Class III jaw relations by quantifying differences in the condyle process, coronoid process and ramus on CBCT (Cone-beam computer tomography) images. Our hypothesis was that CBCT would reveal no voluminal differences between deviated and non-deviated mandibular segments in asymmetric skeletal Class III. Materials and methods CBCT imagines were …
